its even worse now, the new series of fumos; nitori, joon, rumia and eiki were gone in less than 5 minuets, it makes 53 minuets look generous furthermore the traffic prevented you from even reaching the site during this time frame which means either a really small amount was made or the botters are just that dominant now.
I was fucking there for that dude. I was furious that I was denied my Nitori.

Christ that night was absolute hell, I tried getting momiji and aya but by the time I had aya in the cart momiji was sold out. I was lucky to get aya atleast but I’m still wondering if it was worth staying up til 4 in the morning to get a fumo for the original price when I’m already planning to get one at the usual inflated price

Reasonably high likelihood whatever autumn sale they have (the one that'll have Junko, keiki, and a few others) will be a similar disaster, as I'm guessing it'll be limited just like this sale.

Oddly enough the little mini straps were limited quantity this time, with everything else MTO. At this point I wonder if there will ever be a big limited quantity run again (outside of maybe dekas)

Ah yes, this sale was a disaster. I managed to get a Kaguya fumo though, so I'm pretty happy. I'll have to try again one day to get a Yuyuko though.
Snatched me up a Kaguya as well, but I too was denied a Yuyuko. While there wasn't too much that could be done about not getting the more popular fumos, my only regret was not getting a Hatate (or three) when I had the chance, as I have come to like her as of late.

i had alice in my cart as well, but she sold out before i could check out because of the crashing ;-;

Hatate cute, I honestly regret not getting at least one. Same thing happened to me only with Patchy and Reisen, your pain is felt by many.
Wasn't in the Touhou fandom yet at that point, but recently I preordered the newest Patchouli fumo
Hopefully there's another Meiling fumo rerun at some point in the future since she's one of my favorite 2hus and I'd rather not get her at resale price or get a shoddy bootleg from AliExpress

As bad as it is I enjoyed the justice of the greedy one being stopped because there wasn't enough stock and likely going back resulted in out of stock, so if they just bought one they could have made it
dunno about yall but i bought 2 and then went back a bought and 3rd honestly amazing experience its like 1/3rd the price i pay for unused second hand ones
oh price-wise this was an excellent opportunity, for those who managed to get past the access restriction notice. I myself got 6 (though only alices and kaguyas).

At this point just get bootlegs since real ones are almost infested with scalpers. The Reisen bootleg I got for around $30 is a perfect imitation anyways and can even sit on her own which is a rarity among bootlegs.
I see this and i gulp... In the future if Kogasa has a fumo she will be gone in less than a second...
They fact they haven't made a Kogasa or Nazrin yet is honestly criminal. That being said, they seem to be doing more MTOs, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get one.

I feel it's an issue more on the distributor's end, like just implement a captcha or some antibotting procedure so their entire inventory doesn't get wiped in an instant. That and more server capacity, amiami's site complete broke during the October sale.

Once I bought one fumo at a store as a gift. Now I'm surprised that it is so competitive.
The scene has fortunately mellowed out a bit this year thanks to made to order sales for most fumos. I guess Gift realized the sheer demand surrounding them and that MTO would be a more profitable move rather than limited run.

Things actually began to mellow out around 40 minutes in, which is to say the site wasn't crashing as frequently and you could still get your hands on the less in demand fumos

is it possible to just find them in anime stores in Japan or if possible, in an anime store in whatever country or state youre in?
I know that there is one store in Japan that actually stocks fumos (Akiba Hobby), and I wouldn't be surprised if there were more stores that stocked them around Japan. Worth noting they sell them at the typical resale price of 100-200 USD (converted). Outside of Japan I highly doubt they have fumos in stock, too hot a commodity and one in such short supply.

So there was a sale of fumos in late October through amiami. There will surely be reruns of different characters over time, likely in line with Reitaisai. Just keep your eyes peeled and follow gift/amiami as they announced these sales well in advance.
In terms of actually getting fumos outside of these sales, you'd have to go through the resale market which is expensive (rarely see anything listed under $100 with $150-250 being common prices).

To my knowledge, Gift typically drops fumos during reitaisai (touhou convention in the fall). Outside of that there are occasional drops and reprints. Just follow their twitter for updates honestly.
