      This is. to me, the most realistic depiction of what it's actually like to discipline your child. When he uses the angry dad voice, it didn't look like acting. It looked like what an actual angry dad has to do.

      I can only imagine a film like this being made these days by Sonny or Marvel. Too much studio interference. "Okay the main character can work in security but rather than at a sports stadium he works in a museum and in the finale the villain tries to break in to get the special artifact which will give him power to control the universe, and there's also explosions and stuff at the end and a beam going up into the sky. Say what you will about Bruce Willis, but his ability to portray fear in this scene was exceptional. The fear, hesitation, and the way he stumbled through his thoughts, trying to find the right words to de-escalate the situation is just amazing. I don't think I have ever seen this kind of visceral acting from him in any other movie.

  • @holdover8199
    @holdover8199 8 месяцев назад +8

    I remember watching this with my dad when I was maybe 12 years old, and we were SUCKED TF into this scene, because my dad kind of looks like Bruce Willis and had a .351 Revolver that I knew about and knew how to load. When Bruce Willis started counting I seriously thought the kid was going to shoot him. That Dialogue of "you're right, that bullet is just going to bounce right off of me, but then I'm going to leave" was brilliant and saved everything. I was 12 years old and literally felt like I put extra stress on my own dad watching this scene together because Bruce's acting is so damn good. At 2:27, the look on his face is totally expecting for that bullet to come. Also, if you watch this film from beginning to end, this scene also sort of comes out of nowhere. I really can't express how heavy this was to watch on VHS 20 years ago...

      Very well said. And something I notice now, that I didn't realize watching the movie 20 years ago, was how badly the kid wanted his dad to be a real life superhero. He'd been totally sucked into Price's "fantasy". He believes it even more than we do.

      Our memories aren’t exactly the most trustworthy things. You could most likely be taking a scene from another movie, and confusing it with this one. I know it might not be what you want to hear, but it’s the most likely explanation.
      For example, Superman 2, where Lois Lane “shoots” Clark Kent, and finds out for certain that he is Superman.

    Ah, Bruce Willis still dead? Like in the Sixth Sense, still immortal, someone see in him a hero, others are scared of the living dead? Okay, guess I get the point. Life and Afterlife are exactly the same. So "Dead like me" is a true story. Some people see you, others don't bother, don't care or take notice, "Yeah, baby, Yeah, baby yeah, I am dead." - Judgement Day killed me on my birthday!

And "Grounddog Day" made fun about this situation (Movie with Bill Murray)).

    M Night based the scene of Joseph trying to shoot David off of the real-life story of George Reeves, the actor who played Superman in the 1950's. A kid wanted to test his invulnerability with a real gun, but he used a bluff to keep him from doing it by saying the bullet might bounce off him and hit someone else.
