Is this heat wave OVER YET???? hahaha Hello my friends I am seriously over this heat and hope this was the last heat wave of the year. Thank goodness for my faithful Vinca, marigolds and petunias. Those poor plants held on for dear life. I hate to see my water bill!!! Hope you all are staying cool and having a beautiful day in your garden too. Lets all pray for an early fall! 😇
@@GardenHappy aren’t Vincas just the best for our hot zones ! I never thought they were that special and my mom who was an expert Gardner always mentioned them to me and now I just love them because maybe they come in prettier colors . 🥰
@@Treesa62 Honestly Treesa62 I can't believe more people aren't growing them. Not many plants can survive a heat wave and full sun. . . I think the vincas are so under rated! Mothers know best right? hahaha 😄
Thank you Majellamaas! It was definitely a hot and difficult time, but we all pulled through, me and the flowers. Haha Thank God, he blessed me with a garden that survived. 😇🙏🥰👍❤️Liz
Thank you so much oldGardengal. I appreciate you taking the time to visit me. Yes it is nice walking around and just tinkering in the garden. I guess you could say it’s my therapy. It’s the one little place that brings me peace, joy, and my sanity in this big world. Haha ❤️👍🥰Liz
I’m so impressed with how well you have kept your garden going with this heat! It looks beautiful! Zinnia’s,vinca’s and lantana have done really well for me this summer. Agapanthus’s and geraniums not so much. I am so ready for fall. Thanks for sharing ❤. ( I would love to see how your front yard is doing)🌸🌼🌺
Hey there Ginger. . . that is so awesome that your Zinnias, Vinca and Lantana did well for you this year. I am so surprised that your agapanthus did not. . . those seem to be the hardiest and durable things to grow. Who knows. . . the weather always plays a huge roll in gardening that is for sure. Yes I too am looking forward to fall. I am SO OVER this heat!!!! hahahaha Thanks for stopping by my friend. xoxoxox Liz
My water bill will be atrocious for this past month or two as well but it is worth it to me for the joy our gardens bring us. I love Wave Petunias as well, one for their beauty and toughness but also for their habit of reseeding giving us free plants the next year. I noted this year with my Supertunias that they got budworm while my Wave Petunias did not and they are right next to each other. Next week it is to cool down. As for the barrel, why don't you make it a seasonal garden, plant loads of tulips in it for Spring, then swap those out as they fade for something that will bloom after, and so on. Having it change all season will keep it fresh and exciting for you. 🙂
Good morning Pam thank you for taking the time to comment. Yes I agree when I watch your channel U2 are a fan of those wave petunias. They are absolutely the best and I think they are more colorful too. I love your idea of planting seasonal flowers in the barrel. That is so awesome. I would never think to put tulips or daffodils in there, but that is an outstanding idea. I noticed that you also grow Gaura and yours looks just like mine right now. Always fun to watch your videos and compare things that are growing in my garden too. Thanks again for the seasonal barrel suggestion! 👍❤️🥰Liz
Hi Liz everything looks so charming and welcoming. So glad you made it through the heat wave. I love the rusty gas can it's an awesome blast from the past. In rust we must trust. Those vinca are delightful and really a tough performer in the garden. They seem to be comfortable in the antique tub. Those tubs are the bomb what a great garden item. I bought a vinca last summer and it grew great in a pot in my courtyard and we had a frost and I forgot to bring it in. Well I cut it down and voila it grew back and is thriving. I was at Star Nursery this morning a go figure they had vinca's on sale for .48 cents. I scooped up a bunch of them. Excited to get planting, Keeping on gardening and have a blessed Funday Sunday.
Hello there Kelly and thank you so much for an awesome comment. I love reading your messages and fun choice of words. That is so awesome. You have good luck with yourVinca too. I think the Vinca is such an underrated plant and I don’t see too many gardeners showing it on their channels. Perhaps we got very lucky with our locations and the vinca seems to be thriving for you as well. But again I don’t hear of too many other gardeners talking about it. I agree that Rusty can is definitely a blast from the past and some things fun I will be enjoying for many years to come. I think this year instead of pulling my van out of the ground I will just cut it way back during winter, maybe in spring. It will come back from the roots. I will definitely try that this year. Thanks for letting me know your experiences. Hope you have a fun Sunday as well Kelly! 👍❤️🥰Liz
Thank you so much. I was definitely blessed during this heat wave. God knows how important my Garden is to my health so he continued to let it bloom. Thank you for taking the time to comment. 😇🙏❤️👍Liz
Good morning Liz, goodness your garden looks so beautiful. Your vinca is especially gorgeous. It’s my favorite too! I used to grow azaleas and hydrangeas successfully when I lived in Seattle. Since moving to Tucson I’ve tried and failed with those two and other favorites. But my roses, hibiscus and plumeria are thrilling me now. Thanks for a lovely garden tour. 🌵🐝🥰🌴🌸🌷🐔🥒🐾🫶💛
Good morning Barbara that’s good to know about your azaleas and hydrangeas not doing so well. Sorry they did not perform well for you in Arizona, but it helps me understand things more. I suppose they just don’t like the heat. I think I’m going to rip mine out. They’re taking up space without any rewards. Maybe I will try the hibiscus. Im always always scared to give that a try but since it grows so well for you, I think I might give that a try. They are selling those right now at Home Depot and they look beautiful. Do you keep your hibiscus in full sun or do you give it a little afternoon, relief? 🥰👍❤️ thanks for taking the time to comment. Liz
Thank you so much, my friend panagiotaskoylida. All glory to God for blessing me with beautiful blooms even through this heat wave. God knows how important my garden is to my health so he continues to bless me during this hot weather. I think what we are experiencing is what has been written in the book of revelation. All part of God‘s plan I suppose. I hope you are blessed with cooler weather soon, my friend. Hugs and kisses from California to Athens, Greece! ❤️👍🥰🙏😇Liz
Your garden is just so colorful and unique! Vinca's grow well for me also here in the low AZ desert. We are finally getting cooler days of 105 to 107 degrees Many plants are just browning out. I love our fall and winter gardens and just getting ready to start seeds. I lovee the car part fan flower!
Thank you June. . . you are the first person to comment on the car part. Funny how we think 105 is cooler after that horrible heat wave! hahahaha Thanks for the reminder to start my fall seeds! xoxoxox Liz
Oh my goodness, Stephanie I am so sorry your Garden is stressed out. It was so hard this year. I agree. I hope you are blessed with some cooler weather very soon.👍❤️🥰Liz
I really enjoyed your tour. I think your garden is such a pleasant place with all the beautiful plants and flowers. . And the bathtub ⭐⭐…especially like your colorful garden art. I am just north east of you in the Sierrra Foothills. Our weather is very similar, we experienced the heat wave but about 7-10 degrees cooler. I had to water everyday.
Hello Esther or should I call you neighbor? Haha this heat wave was brutal. Thankfully you had a few temperatures lower. I’m thinking about moving to the mountains just to avoid it next year. We will see. Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate your compliments and encouragement. 🥰👍❤️ Liz
Hi Liz your garden looks so beautiful. Unfortunately my garden didn't survive the Las Vegas heat waves of nearly 120. Alot of my plants died and its looking so dry in my patio. Gonna put some more plants in but more desert type heat loving plants. TFS with us.
Hello IrisFlentroy… so sorry to hear your plants did not survive the heat wave. It was a hot one this year that’s for sure. I can’t even imagine what you went through in Las Vegas. I think it’s a great idea that you’re going to replace some plants with some heat, loving desert plants that will thrive in your area and conditions. some of those agaves and Yuka’s are so beautiful. The foliage are so colorful. I planted more heat tolerant plants in my garden after the heat wave as well. Thank you for taking the time to comment.❤️🥰👍Liz
The garden looks great. I wish my plumbago would grow as thick and lush as yours. Perhaps portacula would be good in your succulent barrel. The passion vine arches are lovely. I agree, plant more of what grows best! I enjoyed the video!😊❤
Hello and thank you for taking the time to comment. I just ddid a Google search on portacula and that is a fantastic idea. They are so bright and colorful as well. I think you advised me on a great choice!!!! Thank you!!!! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! 👍❤️🥰
Hi Liz and friend, I think Portulaca is a great idea also ! Mine are doing great this year in zone 9B inland SoCal. Also, Liz, may I suggest for your succulent planter a good option could be a desert mallow. Mine have done great for years ! The bright coral flower cups are amazing and prolific bloomers throughout the year !! I get babies every now and then and if you can’t find it in your nursery, I’d be happy to share. Maybe you’re close to me with any luck. 🍀 Tree
Thank you Treesa62 I will definitely look into that. I love all the awesome and helpful ideas I’m getting. I appreciate you taking the time to comment. ❤️🥰👍Liz
I would take the plumbago out of the container and divide it up into several plants. You have probably divided other plants. Azaleas need an acid soil so you might want to change out the soil it is in and put it into this type for it to thrive.
Thank you so much silverdawnfox that is a GREAT idea. . . . the problem with keeping the plumbago is I don't have any space in my garden to accommodate it's size. I will dig it up and give it to my neighbor. I totally bought that on an impulse. hahaha And thanks also for the azalea tip!!! xoxox Liz
Good morning Wyomingchick thank you for taking the time to comment. You are the second person to suggest planting moss roses in my succulent barrel. I did a Google search on them and you are right those would be perfect!!! They are so colorful and they would thrive in the heat and sun. Great advice thank you so much for taking the time to comment! 👍❤️🥰Liz
Thank you so much June. . . maybe I will try growing the native milkweed again next year. I will buy some seeds now and put them in the refrigerator over the winter. Great advice. . . appreciate you taking the time to share! xoxoxox Liz
Hi Jenn. . . thank you for taking the time to comment. No. . . those are NOT my dogs!!! I live right behind a dog kennel and it's almost impossible for me to film without hearing them bark. Arrrrgggggg So frustrating. I do have 3 dogs but they are quiet most of the time. xoxox Liz
@GardenHappy So sorry about that. I'm an animal person, but that would be a bit much. Still, it sounds better than my trashy neighbors' music and fighting. 😆 🤣
Oh my Gosh, Jenn you crack me up! I suppose hearing the dogs bark is way better than some trashy neighbors making a ruckus. We all have our challenges don’t we. I too am an animal lover! Yay!!! I have 3 dogs, 3 cats and 5 chickens. It is my dream to get a sweet little house somewhere on an acre of land so I can get a cow and Nigerian dwarf goats. Nice chatting with you today. I hope you enjoy your evening. 👍❤️🥰Liz

So in conclusion, the pieces I snip off, usually do have roots on them already established even if they are small, you only need a few. I hope that helps. 👍❤️🥰Liz

Maybe lemon coral sedum would be nice in your half barrel potid they do good in heat.
Thank you so much Faye. . . I will definitely look in to that!!!
Milkweeds need to be cold stratified before planting. As long as you cut the tropical milkweed down close to the ground in winter it is fine to grow!
