This one really hit the spot, Daljit. I have just recently hit a patch of giving up late goals and I think this will help. In particular, I had been just subbing out either players on a yellow card or those whose condition hearts went red the soonest. It's a good point that fresh legs aren't equally valuable in all positions - a tired forward can still annoy the opposing defense, and that's all I really need him to do. A tired CB can still hang out in the center of the box and head crosses away. A tired BBM or WB, though, is going to simply stop doing his job.

Fantastic video! Now to figure out how to get a lead...

I have found if being an underdog having a 1 goal lead against very big teams going defense to protect does not help. Better sub tired legs, keeping shape and intensity. Othervise its like inviting big team to score

Just blew a 2-1 lead in the second leg of the Carabao Cup as Spurs to Wolves (4-1 😢) thanks to my coaching blunders. Sometimes we need to revisit these videos lol

Playing as small sides (you know me and my approach), I feel the pulse of the game is a critical aspect for me to pay attention to. Your observations are on point Daljit, but I have slot of matches with more than a goal lead that I make the mentality change to start the second half (especially on the road). At 60, my approach is similar to yours and I tend to park the bus around 85, with a trained tactic that doesn't back off further than cautious and lower line, but adds in the discipline aspect. Great video as usual friend!

I prefer to change roles slightly to more conservative roles. so Deep lying play maker would be changed to an anchor or half back. Centre mid on attack to a box to box midfielder. Play for set pieces etc. Changing too drastically or too negatively results in the opponent gaining momentum. also praise when winning by a goal in the last 10 mins usually gives a boost.
very good video you have good knowledge.

I have been doing the sub suggestion too, only the critical positions to defend the lead and not strikers. Never tried the counter press removal, will try that. Some tips that I use; Never change my tactics/positions until 75 mins, keep doing what got me the lead. At this time I make small change, like WB-Attack to FB-Attack, or WB-Support, the CM-Attack to CM-Support, no drastic position changes and do not change too many players, we want to keep doing what got us here but a little safer. At the 85 mins I put time wasting to sometimes. Never ever select frequent time wasting, I feel that is the worst thing you could do, whenever you get the ball you will instantly lose it and be on the defensive again (in American football there is a saying: the prevent defense prevents you from winning).

Almost pulled my hair out today after giving up a 3x1 lead against Monaco in Ligue 1 as Bordeaux.
All of a sudden their 442 was all over my defensive line and I couldn'f find a reliable way of protecting the ball and the lead.
Conceded 2 goals near the final 10min

Good stuff. I just finished my first season as MTK and really struggled to hold leads much of the season. I never really thought to turn off counter instructions.
My biggest problem with FM23 is beating complacency and nerves. Really struggled at the end of my season with players seemingly struggling with nerves and not performing.
FM23 is much harder to sail through than previous FMs.

if you have some opposition instructions, like pressing or hard tackle...with tired players and 10mns left in the game, is it a good option to remove opposition instruction to remove some tiring task to our player and avoid mistake or misplacing ?

if you have a slower fullback, how do you stop a pace monster with 17+ pace/accel?

    • @BusttheNet
      @BusttheNet  Год назад +3

Hard tackle him though this could draw cards. I would also consider tight marking him if his agility and balance aren’t high. That way he is forced to turn. If he has good dribbling show him to the flanks so that he is left to cross only

@@BusttheNet thanks. what i usually do is take the fullback to a lower mentality so he is never caught too far up the pitch and ive found that it works until it doesn't(aka the pace monster gets a clear 1 on 1 with enough space to dribble). thanks again for the advice.

How about recommendations on changes to make for when you're down 1-0 around 60 min mark
