    I am playing a mid block counter attacking tactic with As Roma (trying to emulate Mourinho). When I play inferior teams, I use positive. When facing equal or stronger teams, cautious. So far it is working very well.

    I started loving defensive mentality. My lower league 4-4-2 has been working out well. I thought defensive meant playing super direct, wasteful passes and sitting deep forever, but it's been not so at all. It's a lot of balls behind the defensive line to run on to and varied crossing from the wing partnerships. It even handles low blocks well. I don't bother switching. For some reason on other mentalities my wing duo doesn't try the play where the winger takes it up high as he can, then cuts back to the fullback behind who takes a quick cross from deep. On other mentalities they will more often either try to force the overlap or the winger will go for the low success rate dribble with the full back covering behind.

    One of the hardest things in the game is to choose/find the right mentality for each game, almost nobody talks about it, many play control or attack always, go on holiday until end of the season amd see how it went ( it often works, even with weaker teams, which is a shame)

      @@dr.hero18 I understand it from one point. But what would you suggest to change if you want to make a late push? in this optic it sounds to me like attacking and very attacking are just a waste, and like last years "just stick to positive"

      @@eXistenZ15 What works for me is having a 10/wing forward with ability to both pass and cross from everywhere, set him as the target man on foot and for him to max amount of crosses and passes. Then the striker or strikers to be like poachers. If you have multiple who can create those chances then put all higher on them and others to lessen risks, specially defenders.
      One thing that tend to happen if you watch the full match as "put aggressive roles" or put max mentality is that the defender will get the ball and then just shoot it farther to the opponent defender giving them the ball and not making opportunity. Or having multiple long shots from players with low power, long shot and technique abilities like the defenders or def midfields.
      Thats not what you want. You want the defender to pass to whoever has better pass, drible, cross, technique, creativity, etc. and then that player or group of players then yes to make those opportunities.
      Another way is to have a tall and aggressive striker with great first touch and passing ability to be target man by air. Then he receives the ball and passes to a poacher or wing forward acting as support so that poacher/wing forward/10 scores.
      Lower your long shots as much as possible, specially from those who have less ability since most probabilly you fail to do correctly, except if the guy has exceptional ability, then sure.
      I think you start to see the problem here. Wasted opportunities by just putting everyone in panic mode and just shoot forward, instead of planning how to make loads of chances and making it look like how you're pilling on pressure on the opposition side with clear chances.

    Imho, SI deliberately choose to use abstract terms over the concrete ones. That way, the community will discuss those terms endlessly, and that keeps the game somehow interesting & the community alive. Mentality, Tempo, Tackling, you name it... All has different meanings depends on which community you're in.

    I have a question, I have a team with very quick striker and wings/ IW and some athletic midfields who acc have a good technique however my centerbacks are not that quick. So I wanna play where I score from transitions kind of what Real Madrid did in last years champions league. However I don’t know whether I should press the opposition and try to win the ball quickly or kind of sit back not a lot and with a standard defensive and a normal offensive line and counter attack?

    Great video! I have one question regarding the mentality in FM23. How does it affect passing directness? It seems they changed it, because looking at the UI you can see that on defensive mentality it's "slightly more direct", on positive it's "slightly shorter", but on very attacking mentality it's "slightly more direct" again, just like on defensive mentality. So the effect is not linear from defensive to attacking, it seems passing directness goes from direct to short, and then to direct again??

    • @sgtheisenb3rg175
      @sgtheisenb3rg175 Год назад +1

      Pretty sure this has always been the case and makes a lot of sense, very attacking is a last resort mentality where basically any structure gets thrown out the window and the only goal is to get the ball up as fast as possible to score a last minute goal somehow

    • @dave-the-sloth
      @dave-the-sloth Год назад

      @@sgtheisenb3rg175 Hello, unfortunately, I can tell you as a fact that is has not always been the case, I am not talking about only the very attacking mentality, but mentalities in general. For example in FM 21 on defensive mentality the default passing directness is 'slightly shorter' (you can see it in the TI), but now in FM23 it is 'slightly more direct', so it is clearly not the same. I've been playing FM/CM since 2002 and there has been some changes to the passing directness from time to time, in the old days you could see the players' directness on a slider, so you could clearly see the effect. For example there was a time when on defensive mentalities defend duty players played more direct passes, and attack duty players played shorter passes, while on the other hand, on more attacking mentalities, defend duty players played shorter passes while attack duty players played more direct passes.

    So what ineed to do against big teams? Man city, liverpool if im with team that level or newcastle level

    • @emanuelfer456
      @emanuelfer456 2 месяца назад

      It depends on your team and on the opponent team because the level of the team by itself doesn't determine how you should play because they also have different forms of play. I could craft a tactic that can make you beat man city. However, that same tactic might not work against other teams that play differently.

      It's basically offside trap. If when you're not in possession and attacker is between your lines if your defense line will go up to get offside trap or go down and cover to defend the other players of the opposition team

    If you change mentality in the middle of a game you will lose tactic familiarity. The same happens changing roles duties, it affects single’s mentality and eventually single’s tactic familiarity.
