Congratulations! Always make sure you use a scrap mat board slip sheet under the mat you are cutting, change the blade often and adjust the blade depth to only score the slip sheet underneath. If you have any questions, please contact us. Thanks, enjoy the mat cutter.
@@biggdogg35810 Hello, a slip sheet is a piece of scrap mat board used as underlayment under the mat you are bevel cutting. Not needed when straight cutting, you can remove it when using the 701-1. Only use scrap mat board as a slip sheet and nothing else. Thanks.
@@biggdogg35810 The #4000 is a hand held mat cutter you use against your own supplied suitable straight edge. You can cut mats in any size you like. Mat board comes standard at 32" x 40" and 40" x 60". Thanks.
Fyi for my left handed friends, this is not configurable for left handed use, nor is there a left handed version available. Its very difficult to use with my non-dominant hand.
Hi, I didn't understand the actual cutting. How do you adjust the stop and start? A close-up would have helped. I need to know I can do this before purchasing the cutter! Thanks
Hi, You do not need to adjust the start and stop line. Its stationary on the cutting head. Just make sure your blade depth is set properly, mark all your borders and then start on the far line, rotate the blade in, pull to the near line and stop rotating the blade out. You cut line to line not going past the lines. Make sure you use scrap mat board underneath as a slip sheet and a suitable straight edge to guide the cutting head. Hope that helps. Thanks.
Starting the cut, you need to push the rotating blade holder down as far as it will go- so the plastic touches the metal base. This is not obvious (at least to me) from the video.
Sometimes the guides can be too tight. You just need to loosen the screws, then place them back on the rail, and then tighten the screws back down. Please let me know if this worked for you.
Hello. The lead can easily be inserted into marker and it's a 2H or 2 mm lead. As the lead tip wears down, you will need to occasionally push the lead slightly further down as its used up until it needs to be replaced. Thanks.
think I need some extra assistance. does the blade go through to the underside bottom of the cutter? if yes my blade will not go through from top. Doesn't seem to have clear opening from top to underneath. Can you help? How can I fix this?
Hello. Yes the #270 blade you install passes through a think slot cut in the base of the cutting head. This blade slot helps to prevent the blade from flexing causing hooks and curves. Make sure you have only one blade and not two stuck together. Watch the blade install portion of this video to see how the blade passes through the slot. @@LoganGraphic thank you so much for your advice. you are correct...I had 2 blades inserted. i will watch this video over and over. very informative for first timers
I just bought this cutter and I noticed that if you make a cut by matching the black mark with your mark then the cutter starts cutting from before the vertex. Is there any way to make a cut without having to make extra marks on the cutter?
+Ramiro Cairo Make sure you are marking your lines and cutting from the back of the mat board while it is color side down. Not from the front side. Any overcuts on the back corners are necessary and irrelevant to the front side that should show no overcuts if the blade depth is set properly and you are starting and stopping on the marked lines.
I just bought one so now I’m here. Custom matting is too expensive. Hopefully this can save me!

@@LoganGraphic , what exactly is a slip sheet? Can that be a large sheet of paper, or newspaper, or does it need to be something like poster board?

@@LoganGraphic thanks so much. Last question: is this model good for large matte cutting? I have a Packers football jersey I want to frame.

To make the 4000 left-handed, you would need to push the cutter away from you versus pulling it toward you.

I have a question with the cutter, do you know what is the maximum thickness that the 2000 model can cut? and the model 4000? , greetings from Chile
The 2000 will cut maxium 4 ply mat board 1/16" or 1.57MM
How do you replace the lead on the measuring guide? Does the lead move down (toward mat) as needed once the tip is worn off?
