This is such a gripping tale, made all the more creepy as read by Christopher Lee and supplied with such music and sound effects. I'm surprised that nobody has ever made a movie out of this tale. It would be a better horror film than most which are made nowadays.
@Nemois "There are some movies about E. A. Poe’s Black Cat but in my opinion they suck." Your opinion sucks. The Black Cat starring Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff is 10/10 movie. It has little to nothing do with this story though.
Oh, dear...about four and a half minutes into this thing, I had to stop it and go hug and kiss my roommate's cat. It just became too heart wrenching for a cat mom to hear. 😱😭
The stories of Poe always intrigued me ever since I left my first secondary school. To thank the board of whom set the works of Poe as syllabus would not be the first thing one would ever consider in all great consideration. It is in the end that we all die consumed of what work we weaved in our own lifetime. Though only a lowly humble acting student I would like to announce a final Goodbye to Sir Lee for his work and thank you for your contributions towards literary arts by tributing this work.
Wow. Thank goodness I've experienced this poem in the middle of the afternoon... Here's hoping it will not sit and fester in my mind before arising once more before slumber... Mel 🍰🌻
It feels like Edgar Allan Poe wrote this poems for Christopher Lee, even that I know it is impossible. Thanks again for sharing. He was a great actor R.I.P. Sir Christopher Lee.
I know Christopher Lee died and we didn’t want him to but Edgar Allan Poe also died. Who is saying ‘we will miss you’ to the dude who died of alcohol poisoning? No one?
poe and christopher lee , with lenore dance in the bleakness of the dank dense night with the whispers forevermore! As the moon casts it's shadow on the trees it's skeletal limbs linger upon the ground forevermore!
Lol, he visits my dreams too. We have spent some good, albeit creepy times together! I usually end up rolling around in broken glass and slipping in my own blood every time i try to stand back up again though. And all i can think about is what a terrible house guest i am being.
Sir Christopher lee The one and only❤️ absolute gentleman 🥰 and no one could do Dracula like him fantastic in lord of the rings and Star Wars 💕loved him since being a child His presence ,voice ,acting just phenomenal His-long time friend Peter Cushing Vincent price-just unque💋🌹💋

I used to have a black cat that I named Pluto. Had to get rid of him after he got in a neighbor's vehicle overnight and attacked him when he got in the next day. No lie.
Thank you for the video! Lee's voice is stunishing and the production takes you to the exact place of the narration. Any chance you could share the source of the audio. I'm looking for Edgar Allan Poe's works narrated by Cristopher Lee.
This story was the 2nd story in the movie, Tales Of Terror and it was more of a funny story rather than scary. I had always thought the nightmare scene where Vincent Price had played catch with Peter Lorrie's disembodied head was so funny!!! 🤣🤣🤣
Poe loved his cat, a tortoiseshell named Catarina. He used to send her his love in letters he wrote home when travelling on business. She lay on Mrs. Poe to keep her warm when she was dying, as they were poor & only had Poe's cape to put over her. His stories demand that you confront evil & explore controversial moral issues, in order to understand & --- if necessary --- combat them. He points out in this story that the mutilation of the cat might even divide the narrator from the mercy of God. In an era when animal welfare organizations were just coming into being, his attitude was very farsighted & broad-minded. But then, The Facts in the Case of M. Valdemar looks at the ethical issues of keeping a dying man on life support, just out of scientific curiosity. He asks, just because we CAN do it, is that enough justification TO do it? He demands that people look at things which make them very uncomfortable --- & that has won for him the most virulent, warped criticism I have ever encountered for any author.
1:54 "Pluto"? There's a name I wasn't expecting to hear for a cat...but given the origins of the name I can't say I would have expected to hear it for a dog either. XD
I wish I could find the text version of this. It's a shorter version and this is why I like it. But I can't find this version as a text. If you do, please help me.
there will never be such a voice like his again!!!!!RIP
Maybe his ghost
Benedict Cumberbatch when he gets older maybe.
Vincent Price was the same Genius with hypnotical voice.
When you need some dark tales you can listen to them :)
Have you heard Nakata Jouji's voice?
"This is Christopher Lee wishing you a very good night."
(His subtle way of saying "Happy nightmares everyone".)
Against the power of time there can be no victory.

It’s cool when Christopher Lee reads gothic horror stories by Edgar Allan Poe.
This is why you should always be nice to cats. 🐱

There are at least two different version one made around the sixties and an updated one in the two thousand something. Check them out.
None of them follow the plot of the story though
