Stumbled up on this, and it instantly became my favorite Squeeze clip! Glenn with his very British accent so charming. And finishing with I've Returned! One of my favorites of all time. Thanks for sharing Steve Bertam!
I can't say enough about Squeeze, in all its incarnations. A magical group that I got to see in NYC way back in the late 70's-early 80's. Some of the best shows I've ever seen.
It’s impossible to explain how powerful this band is live. I saw them I think in 86 and they set the stage on fire ! When Jools Holland on keyboards and Keith Wilkerson on base we’re with them they were truly unbelievable. Definitely my favorite band in the 80s and beyond.
Funny how they talk so much in the interview about writing the next album and touring again in the fall. They broke up the band two months after this. I had only just discovered them earlier that year and was devastated that my new favorite band was already on the rocks. Luckily, the breakup was short-lived. Got to see them live three times over the years, as recently as last month.
They didnt play it on American Bandstand. That's the original recording that they are "performing" to. I hated the Lip Sync craze of the 80s. It still happens some today, but not nearly as much.
I was there. They had to wake John. He was asleep in the bus, nursing a hangover. It's also when I learned they didn't play the instruments onstage, except for Gilson. Still, one of the highlights of my youth.
I had heard U.K.Squeeze and Cool for Cats on the radio but this was the first time i saw them preform.I have see them live eight times over time and have never been dissappointed.
How does any human (not a computer, not a robot, and not God) write a melody and lyrics like that; and by the same token, how many men on this planet could sing that vocal? Maybe Plant, 1970-72. Not sure John Waite could even do it. Those fortunate few in the audience got 3 of the greatest minutes of their lives listening to I've Returned.
In the UK in the 70s-2000's we had a programme called Top of the Pops and 95% of the acts mimed. The acts changed every 3 or so minutes in a 30 minute programme so it would have been a logistical nightmare to do anything live, although the occasional act did. Squeeze would have been used to this format before they played in the US.

Wow just saw them on a TV interview from 2022. They have grown and changed before our eyes. Who cannot feel affection for these guys?
Glenn was my teenage crush for years. Love him 😍
I love Glenn's dance moves! You do the stanky leg my good sir.

You're so lucky.
Absolutely lucky duckie

They really are sensational live. Better than the studio.
All these years in, their body of songs does more than hold up. They’re one of the greatest songwriting teams.

I watch this video specifically for Tilbrook's dance moves. Outstanding!
Interesting you say this. I think Difford ‘nicked’ his moves from Ronnie Lane of the Small Faces 😊
Tilbrook moves almost exactly like Buddy Holly
Wow. Love this song. Thought it was fairly obscure. Had no idea they played it on American Bandstand of all places.

Good song, but king of a weird choice to highlight on AB. I suppose "Black Coffee In Bed" was too long for their allotted time n the show.
I was there. They had to wake John. He was asleep in the bus, nursing a hangover. It's also when I learned they didn't play the instruments onstage, except for Gilson. Still, one of the highlights of my youth.
I loved when John Bentley was in the band
He’s great

Glenn Tillbrook reminds me of Paul McCartney
Frat boy look was a thing back then we used to pop our collars.
Outstanding song by outstanding band.
My sister Lauren just turned 1 at the time when this episode aired on ABC TV
Glen Tilbrook and Anthony Michael Hall c.Breakfast Club era - twins
Lol, I was thinking the same thing.
For real.
PS…I saw them at the Boathouse on the Elizabeth river in Norfolk Va. It was by far the best concert venue ever. What a show it was !
Saw them a month ago in Reno, and they really brought it.
The commercial failure of this album led to them disbanding. They reformed three years later.
Chris Difford’s got a great speaking voice.

WE LOVE SQUEEZE 😊
Another belter from the modern day lennon and macartney, Dylan, Shakespeare, burns { to name a few}
Brilliant!
"I pour milk into the cat's saucer...I'm John Wayne and I'd love to waltz her."
Come on, who else comes up with lyrics like that?
Always thought it was "I'm John Wayne as I'm walking towards her".
Birdienumnum It is.
Think Glenn is putting on his accent a bit for this! He speaks less "cockney" than that!
around this time this was the year squeeze broke up and they didnt tour the US again till 85
First thing I thought when asked what they were going to do after the tour, break up!!
Look Ma, no wires!
Love all your posts-thanks!
Squeeze = the BEST
I think the city of Chicago would have been better for them at that time. Media, businesses, and fans there tend to like these type of bands.
Squeeze Are Slumming Here These Kids Are Only Michael Jackson Fans
He looks like John Lennon
Am I crazy or was this live not dubbed? 90% of his show was dubbed.
notgrillo collector/ gamer It's lip synced. They're just really good at it.
Gotta be dub. The guitars aren't plugged in to anything.
One of the best lip synced Band Stand performances ever!!

I always wondered why American Bandstand wanted its guests to lip sync rather than sing live.
Thank you Steve,,where are you getting all this stuff,,,mind blowing,,I've Returned...wow!
floyd Lay I recorded most new and the rest I traded with other Squeeze collectors over the years.

@Coogan No. They only played AB once.
Who's that on keyboards? Was Paul still in the band at this point?
Don Snow aka Jon Savannah.
Never heard of this band!!
Really? They’ve been around for 50 years.
@@stevebertram6730 what genre of music are they?
Pop rock power pop whatever@@tatiyanaperez5888
who is that coiffed man on keys? to pretty to be Jules.
Don Snow...their keyboard guy for exactly one album and tour.
Clark is impossibly square.
Wish there was an encore. Points of View. 😚🥲
