I have this song on my cruising playlist when I drive to the beach (South Parde Island) or just go driving to refresh my mind. One of my favorites from them. Change of plans I'm gonna go to the beach today. Keep on rockin Dave.
love seeing a guy like you who loves and plays magical music but you never listened to PJ! They are very magical and their musicianship is 2nd to none .They are a blend of all types of music. A must see live !!! HPY DAVE , may your channel grow much this year!!!
Oh, glad I woke up to this! Havent heard your review yet but one of my first orders of business in the morning is to check youtube to see if you got a new Pearl Jam review. "In Hiding" is strange song in a way that it is hard pin down. Its not overly complex or bizarre, or even hard on the ears, but the opposite, yet without being overly simple and "precious." It's a "big" song that is at the same time subtly pacifying in a way. It's soft, it builds, it slows, it raises again and takes flight in a way that is very smooth and right. The mood of the song is more akin to a triumph or escape from some struggle, yet the lyrics are a little more troubled as the narrator is a state of retraction and "hiding." Sorry, I dont want to go too much into the lyrics, because even more investigations into it could "Yield" even more opinions. Anyway, my point is this is a rare sort of offering from them as it one of their more ambiguous yet pleasant songs, which is not usually their style, so I was happy to wake up and see you had reviewed. I still dont believe its in their top 40 tracks or so, but its a solid and under the radar track of theirs.
Haha, again, I wrote all this before I even started your review. You got even deeper into the misdirection of the musicality than I after just hearing the opening. Love it. Just wait!
i was really impressed with this album when it came out. at the time i probably put it at number 2 behind VS. after that i had Ten, then No Code then Vitalogy....what's funny is this ranking has changed as more albums have come out and the other funny thing is that the Vitalogy songs are friggin’ great live....the live experience totally redeemed that album for me
In Hiding is one of my 5 favorite PJ songs. Thanks for the review. I find it amusing that you have a specific playlist for the drive to Vegas. I grew up in Vegas before moving east for school. Vegas tip: if you like Thai food, next time you are there, check out Lotus of Siam. Michelin rated. Considered the best Thai restaurant on the West Coast by most food critics and almost the exact same price as your neighborhood Thai restaurant.
When covid is over: It's been about three years now Since I've been above ground i'm no longer overwhelmed and it seems so simple now It's funny how things changed so much, it's all state of mind...
The perfect Pearl Jam song. Love the riff from Stone, great tasteful playing from Mike, that unique Jack Irons shuffling feel, Jeff gets to be creative and Eddie puts in a great vocal performance
Charles Bukowski was an amazing poet! A complete asshole BUT a great poet who captured the dirty and sludge of LA and society. He's my favorite poet and he was my inspiration to become a poet myself.

Always great to see you reacting to some PJ. Got a lot of catch up to do on your channel, been super busy lately. I love this song, and the whole Yield album. I can’t wait for you to get to some more stuff from their No Code album, pretty sure I saw some requests from people. Binaural also.

@@THEDavidHeretic glad to be here. Look forward to many more. As you're a Kiss fan may I respectfully ask that you check out The Wildhearts, a little known UK band whose singer is a huge Kiss fan, they've been described as the Beatles shagging Metallica by way of the Ramones and ABBA.
@@THEDavidHeretic ok, try this one to start, from their debut album in 1993, shows a lot of what they're about ruclips.net/video/o5uWhWgw3uY/видео.html

This would be the pj record id recommend to a kiss fan... lol. Its their hookiest, tightest... and really most radio friendly record id say. Pretty cool thing to note in that walk down leading up to the chorus - you had the chord progression correct as usual - but for the first chorus they take a couple beats on an E (Em?), but the second time around they dont. Just one of those subtle things that makes a song stand out. Very smart songwriting
"In Hiding" is one of two "In" songs at the top of my fave PJ list, the other being "In My Tree". I have to get a link for "Smile" where Stone plays bass & Jeff plays guitar. It's another fave of mine & the inspiration for my tattoo, one day. ('Three crooked hearts with swirls all around' ) I also need to grab the link to "Down" (official video?) off the awesome Lost Dogs album (fantabulous B sides❤) & the rarely played live "Out of My Mind". I'll add them to this after I recover from my New Jersey Giants NFC playoff elimination 😡. Thanks for both your instant & thought out responses. You talk music theory & I try to learn but one thing I do understand is the hook! And just as you really enjoyed the "loop up" but weren't sure if it was planned....I feel the same way about Mr. Vedder. 😎 I know, I know, but come on. I have eyes, ears & a beating heart.😋 Thanks for the distraction. Be back with some links! Stay fabulous. Happy New Year from the other Coast!! 🥳🤘 (emoticons to nurse my angry football heart).✌
I think i recommended this song before, "Grievance," and even sent you a video it but heres a much higher quality version of same live performance on David Letterman. This may be their most structurally complex piece, with all sorts of time changes and other hijinks but it never feels cluttered or strident and they knock it out of the eff-ing park. There may be better live versions out there from arena shows, but teh research I did I couldnt find one. The version from their "Touring Band" dvd is is high quality, but I know you like energy from the band members and their energy is kinda absent in that one, but here Mike is especially electro-charged on this one. He's almost bonkers at times. So, if you have a bunch of requests for Grievance, especially the Letterman version, this version has the highest audio and video quality of them all, despite being way down on the search and only having 1776 views ruclips.net/video/ub9mAAFD2uU/видео.html&ab_channel=PearlJamOnline
