I hated it at first, but ended up being a great 3 years. Went to states twice (almost unheard of from my small school) and was the first female wrestling captain there. I wrestled 113 and made my coach so mad because I never listened to him when he said to try a women-only competition.
Only regret was how I never learnt how to cut weight healthily and resported to eating an apple a day (and that was it) for a week whenever I needed to cut . Really messed up my stomach to the point that its been a decade and I still have stomach issues.

It is addressed, but it isn’t dangerous. During pre season every wrestler is given an ‘alpha’ which is a weight they cannot go under or else it is dangerous for their health. As you begin to wrestle for longer and longer it just starts to become easier to fluctuate between weights. Coaches also keep track of their kids weight to make sure they are okay to compete. @@jocelyn8805there is way less oversight that there should be. Technically there are resources in place to prevent danger, you’re right, but in many cases this isn’t held up by coaches or they find work arounds. Many of my friends who did wrestling were cutting weight so dangerously, and we had those “safeguards” in place as well, but it wasn’t enough because no one was checking in on things. And even if you don’t go under a certain weight, losing weight like this is unhealthy at any size because it’s the fact that the amount they’re losing is in such a short amount of time.

Our practices are the last hour of the day so we can end up staying longer if we need to. So in accordance with that our coach told him to stay in the sauna after practice and wait for an hour or two, keep in mind are duel was in five. Long story short the coach ended up, leaving the kid in there until the time of the duel, and ended up giving the kid some sort of sickness. And Coach did not intentionally leave him there.
