When you do the math, he lost 25 pounds, and in the end he was 70 pounds 70 + 25 = 95 So initially he was 95 pounds (concerning but alright) The coach said that the lowest weight class is 120 120 - 95 = 25 Meaning he was supposed to GAIN 25 pounds lol.

24 hours is nothing, I’ve gone 3 days without eating or drinking before the meet, plus doing other things to cut water weight (cup spitting, sweating excessive) and I still was able to wrestle. Weight cutting isn’t that dangerous it’s just short term
My friend used to have to run in full sweats during the 100°+ California heat so he could make weight for wrestling. He had to be 96lbs as a 5'9 senior in highschool. Shit definitely stunted his growth because his dad was a baseball coach at the school and was like 6'4 250lbs

@@mr.sma1147 “have to”is a strong 2 words considering it’s an extracurricular school activity that is actively encouraging 14 year olds to unhealthily starve to the point of potentially harming themselves publicly. @@mr.sma1147 generally, in adulthood, it is normal to set boundaries where needed, even with things you love. People may love their job, but that doesn’t justify mistreatment. I have seen the exact mindset you are describing and have experienced it myself. He ignored warning signs because it’s what he loves, and now has long term health issues related to his legs and feet from it. Adults set limits. Teenagers can know how to, but sometimes they don’t, and like I said, hindsight is 20/20. This is so accurate as a powerlifter too, last year some girls drank a shit ton of water to make it to thier weight class and some girls didn't eat or anything the day we weighed to get thier weight class 😭
I already enjoyed this channel, but when they started doing the wrestling it became one of my favorites. I was a wrestler. Thanks for the comedy and laughs.
As a former high school wrestler this is really accurate. The entire wrestling team wouldn’t eat drink and would pee as much as possible so by the time we got to the meet we would all easily make weight then we would go have a feast after we weighed in
knew people that literally ended up in the hospital because of the extreme measures they were going to to cut weight for high school wrestling. it’s insane how normalized it can be
As a wrestler this is accurate, i had to pedal on a fan bike for 25 minutes non stop as fast as I could while wearing a sweat shirt and sweat pants because I was 1.5 pounds over
A little tip for you guys: if you have an afternoon weigh-in, and you're close, drink two cups of light roast coffee the morning of, and nothing else the rest of the day. It'll clean out your digestive system, and you should be able to pee it all out before you weigh in. If its a moning weigh-in, just do two cups of decaf the night before. Worked for me.
There was this one kid at my school who literally went for a WEEK without eating ANYTHING because he was cutting for wrestling… …he was also in 8th grade.
I'm glad I didn't have to go through this when I wrestled, I wrestled 106 and weighed 85 lbs in highschool. But I have seen others do it and the stress it did to their bodies to make weight. It would be almost 100 degrees outside and they would wear winter clothes trying to sweat out as much weight as they could, and after weigh ins, they would basically eat until there match.
As a wrestler for 9 years I can completely relate and can say this sport takes over your life if you do it in the off season as well and it isn’t worth cutting and gaining find a weight and stick with it…
I remember having to do this in seventh grade, I was varsity wrestling team as a female before they separated men’s and women’s wrestling. So not only did my teammates look down on me for not being as naturally strong as them, but also it was hard for me to maintain weight through puberty. There was one time I had to lose 3 pounds in about an hour and a half, I was in two extra hoodies and sweatpants sprinting. And did not drink or eat anything other than one meal in the next 32 hours so I’d be able to make weight. But my coaches were like the dads I never had and I made them a promise I would not quit ever. (I stayed)

So why continue this harmful bullshit? You know it's more harmful than it is good. And it's for a stupid sport. Something that actually has 0 affect over majority of people's lives.
Well that’s on the coaches for not teaching him to cut properly
What practices were the students taught for losing weight in a safe way?
@@SurprisinglyDeep there is definitely ways to properly cut that if you had coaches that actually cared about your health you would probably know.
@@Xify17 There was no wrestling program at my high school though.
Like would you please be able to give one or two examples?
When you do the math, he lost 25 pounds, and in the end he was 70 pounds
70 + 25 = 95
So initially he was 95 pounds (concerning but alright)
The coach said that the lowest weight class is 120
120 - 95 = 25
Meaning he was supposed to GAIN 25 pounds lol.
I’m cutting weight right now for wrestling and this is hysterical
Lady on my streets son died doing this. Haven't seen her come outside her house except to get the mail. Saddest shit i've ever seen.
aw :(. has it been a really long time ? that’s sad

i knew someone who didn't drink water for 24 hours trying to make weight for wrestling. that evening during wrestling he got a concussion and broken nose, almost died, and was out of school for a month.
24 hours is nothing, I’ve gone 3 days without eating or drinking before the meet, plus doing other things to cut water weight (cup spitting, sweating excessive) and I still was able to wrestle. Weight cutting isn’t that dangerous it’s just short term
Buddy that sounds more extreme than what I did when I was anorexic.
@@adams3817why are you trying to 1 up him bro? That's not good 😭
@@adams3817wowwwwwwww ur so cool for having disordered eating. So edgy and so much better than everyone else.
@@adams3817dude 3 days is dangerous even if not purposely dehydrating yourself
My friend used to have to run in full sweats during the 100°+ California heat so he could make weight for wrestling. He had to be 96lbs as a 5'9 senior in highschool. Shit definitely stunted his growth because his dad was a baseball coach at the school and was like 6'4 250lbs
Why was it 100° when the season starts in winter
@party_cat772 every sport at my highschool made you practice year round. I would see him with the wrestling team running in sweats while I was out doing track and field practice
Why is this allowed, that's straight up child abuse
To be fair, the mother's height also contributes to how tall you'll grow. The average height of women being 5'6.
@@indicakingyeah, practice may be year round, but the cutting weight thing is supposed to be JUST before the meet. The whole point of cutting weight for wrestling is being the biggest weight in the lowest weight class you can, so you’re heavier than everyone else you’re competing against.
Chicks reaction to the sweat was hilarious 😂
I think this is the thing that shocked me the most when i first got into judo, i honestly thought they were joking when they started talking about how much weight they lose or put on in such short amounts of time
"Let's go,let me add em"😂
You can not describe how much I was expecting someone to grab a pair of scissors when he said “cutting weight”
"Im doing this for var.. var.. varsi-"
"-ty?"
"NO! NOT TEA. I CANT HAVE TEA"
"No.. varsity?"
"Oh *passes out"

As a wrestler yeah unfortunately ik people whove done this type of stuff
Its real concerning seeing the skinnier gangaly ones do it
I personally haven't had to cut too much ever and have managed to do it healthy over time so
My friend almost passed out today because she hasn't eaten that much in 3 days. She's on varsity and only had to lose one pound I think. We weigh in for districts in 2 days. I've only had to cut like 2 pounds in practice. On official weigh in days I don't always eat lunch that day to be safe
@@Ur_Fav_Zoeyy oh damn that shit sucks man
On days of matches n stuff i don't usually eat before weigh ins either but i usually eat afterwards
Ofc not too much so as to not throw up on the mat but
@@venomghoulsame I usually will just have water if Im under cause water is a bit more important in general
@@Isaiahwrestling yeah
And hydration is v much important
@@Ur_Fav_Zoeyyonly a pound🤦♂️ also girls shouldn’t wrestle.
This happened with a sport my brother was on, he didn't have to participate but guys on his team would starve themselves before matches. Like right before doing the sport! You just had starved teenagers competing in physical competitions. It's really messed up in retrospect.
That's not what it's like we starve ourselves that day then eat after wiegh ins. I personally have only had to cut hard like once but I've had days of choosing water over food
@@Isaiahwrestlingthat's still not a good thing to do
I feel you. Yesterday I had a tournament and I had to drop 4.7 pounds that day so no water, no food, a few winter coats and running in the gym at lunch.
Yeah to everyone else, especially adults, this is extremely weird and unhealthy behavior. I don’t understand why schools treat this as normal
@@glowco.717 cause that’s what you have to do sometimes. Not saying it’s healthy cause I know it isn’t but we do it so we can play the sport we love.
@@mr.sma1147 “have to”is a strong 2 words considering it’s an extracurricular school activity that is actively encouraging 14 year olds to unhealthily starve to the point of potentially harming themselves publicly. Trust me, when you aren’t in high school anymore hindsight is 20/20 and there’s a lot of things that you feel like you “have to do” that you’ll look back on and notice isn’t okay.
@@mr.sma1147 generally, in adulthood, it is normal to set boundaries where needed, even with things you love. People may love their job, but that doesn’t justify mistreatment. I have seen the exact mindset you are describing and have experienced it myself. One of my good friends did stagecraft in high school, but because he was the only bigger guy, he did nearly all of the lifting of anything heavy. He ignored warning signs because it’s what he loves, and now has long term health issues related to his legs and feet from it. Adults set limits. Teenagers can know how to, but sometimes they don’t, and like I said, hindsight is 20/20. Sometimes it’s not an issue of nobody else understanding, it might be an issue of being in the culture and not being as likely to question harmful things.
@@glowco.717 oh I know I’m just stupid. I want to lose the weight the wrestle at a weight class I’m better at. I already have back, knee, and neck issues that have me in mostly constant pain.
This a pretty good reason why wrestling is one of the hardest school sports
As a wrestler, I both feel called out and represented at the same time 😆

This is so accurate as a powerlifter too, last year some girls drank a shit ton of water to make it to thier weight class and some girls didn't eat or anything the day we weighed to get thier weight class 😭
I already enjoyed this channel, but when they started doing the wrestling it became one of my favorites. I was a wrestler. Thanks for the comedy and laughs.

Poor Grace always dealing with sweaty classmates 💀

Does anyone realize the coach meant gain 25 lbs? 70+25=95. 95 lbs is original weight. 95+25=120.🤯
no its he lost too much😭
This is so true 🤣 I'm a wrestling manager, so when ever the boys cut weight, I always back sure that they eat protein so they don't pass out 🤣
Hydration tests + same day weigh ins is the way to go
you gotta give props for this guy he worked for years
As a wrestler this is accurate, i had to pedal on a fan bike for 25 minutes non stop as fast as I could while wearing a sweat shirt and sweat pants because I was 1.5 pounds over
A little tip for you guys: if you have an afternoon weigh-in, and you're close, drink two cups of light roast coffee the morning of, and nothing else the rest of the day. It'll clean out your digestive system, and you should be able to pee it all out before you weigh in. If its a moning weigh-in, just do two cups of decaf the night before. Worked for me.
😂😂😂
There was this one kid at my school who literally went for a WEEK without eating ANYTHING because he was cutting for wrestling…
…he was also in 8th grade.
The way grace cringed when she felt his sweaty hands 😭
as a wrestler going to a wrestling tournament currently, this is very true.
Omg every joke was so perfectly timed 😅😂😂
I'm glad I didn't have to go through this when I wrestled, I wrestled 106 and weighed 85 lbs in highschool. But I have seen others do it and the stress it did to their bodies to make weight. It would be almost 100 degrees outside and they would wear winter clothes trying to sweat out as much weight as they could, and after weigh ins, they would basically eat until there match.
I knew a kid that had constant nose bleeds just to lose weight for Wrestling. He had to go the hospital after passing out in class.
That “He’s doing this for a JV meet” hit close to home😂
The delivery of “He’s doing this for a JV meet?” 😂

The part with his hands sweating is so relateable as a person who always has sweat on my hands
The accuracy is unreal. Literally got flashbacks lol
I FEEL THISSSS BRO😭😭😭😭
I remember having to do this in seventh grade, I was varsity wrestling team as a female before they separated men’s and women’s wrestling. So not only did my teammates look down on me for not being as naturally strong as them, but also it was hard for me to maintain weight through puberty. There was one time I had to lose 3 pounds in about an hour and a half, I was in two extra hoodies and sweatpants sprinting. And did not drink or eat anything other than one meal in the next 32 hours so I’d be able to make weight. But my coaches were like the dads I never had and I made them a promise I would not quit ever. (I stayed)
This is how my friend developed an eating disorder. Remember it’s great to train but only if it’s making your body healthier and your mind too.
