I think after 9/11 and overall US anti Muslim narrative my self growing up and many of my friends genuinely hated Muslims, Khabib showed me the side of muslims that was kind, generous and not at all my enemy as my government portrayed them. I really feel grateful that people like Khabib are breaking the walls of hate our religions build. Sure we are different in many ways, but we are also the same in many others, we can coexist and thrive as humans.
This team and all these Dagestan fighters are showing the beauty of MMA. To fight, be a man, to move on, to live life, to stay hungry, to work. That’s why people hate on them, coz they know this is how it should be
Fighting doesn’t make you a man - not for every man at least - not every man sees that to be a man for him personally means to fight - and there is no objective thing that makes you a man or not a man, so even if fighting is a big part of who someone is, it doesn’t mean that they get to tell others they aren’t real men if what being a man personally is different for those others as opposed to them - what makes someone a man is subjective and different for everyone and no one gets to say that they have an objective metric that applies to others or anyone but yourself. That’s the problem with these Dagestanis - they force their backwards views that everyone needs to be like them - onto those who are feminine men, not conforming to their gender roles - search up the brutal anti LGBT purges in the Caucasus - these are the fighters that support that backwards forcing one way of being a certain gender - a way of being that doesn’t fit everyone onto other people. Not to mention a lot of these Dagestanis are not genuine in this form of masculinity - they are performing it for social acceptance for their as explained previously backwards society - which actually cheapens their masculinity as it’s not something they express out of freedom and not something that is true to them due to the cheapening I described previously.
