one you missed is; a wrestler that worries about how they look. A good wrestler doesn't care about socks or headgear or sizing up opponents on how they look. That s@*+ shouldn't matter.
I know this video is 2-3 years old at this point, but I LOVE this topic. The "Weak Handshake", at least for me, was always a tell tale sign that you're about to destroy this kid standing in front of you. I remember I shook one kids hand my 8th grade season and almost literally crushed it. BUT, I do have one disagreement with you're list. The "Double Knee Pads" I was a double knee pads guy, Jr High all the through my Senior season of high school. Now I wasn't a State Place Winner caliber wrestler, but I wasn't a push over by no means and I rocked the double knee pads basically because they kept my knees from getting mat burn and I felt I was able to slide into my double and single leg attempts more quickly and smoothly. I never thought wearing double knee pads made a guy look goofy, but maybe when my back was turned everyone was pointing and laughing 😂, who knows. Great video and topic guys!
My kid is newer, but there is a kid on my kids team, he is stud.. wins em all, beats kids 4 years older than him, ankle socks. If it was his way he'd wear none...weird I know

My brother Ed, who wrestled for Canon Mac in the 60s, would give the fish handshake once or twice a season to an opponent he never saw before. He would act wimpy, then hit the guy with a blast double when the whistle blew. The surprised look on the opponent was always comical. So beware - the newbie action may be a psych job. good stuff guys
🤣 That's hilarious. Mind games are huge in wrestling. We had a guy on our team who shook hands with his left hand to throw guys off. And it worked. Btw, Brendan and I both wrestled for Canon-McMillan, so it's great to have you watching. Thanks for the support!
That was my M.O. as well. At weigh-ins, roll my shoulders forward to look like I had a sunken chest and a wimpy handshake before the whistle, then light em up. It works until everyone knows who you are.
@@michaelwernett504 Right, once they experienced it, you couldn't do it again to the same guy. My brother Ed also did the sunken chest - weak handshake and coughed. Funny - you two thought alike.
I will admit that I do wear double knee pads but I started around 7th grade because at the time I also was A hockey goalie so I was on my knees up and down all the time and it just became a huge problem for me with the pain. Yes I know there’s a whole saying of power through it but the knee pads would prevent may burn, And kinda once I started I felt no reason to go back, I can wrestle without any past today and do occasionally but it always hurts a bit more after practice.
Oh yes... I'm older and forgot about that but that's a good one and nobody mentioned it yet bravo. It used to irritate me listening to those greenhorns thinking in fantasy land. Everything's a home run or not even realistic.

I actually think it's funny when great wrestlers do these things, we're just messing around anyways. But the Shake Shack thing is hilarious. Keep it up! 🤣
One knee pad(right knee just because of having it drained so much), Aisic(special ordered Gable edition) wrestling shoes, squeezing knuckles together so hard that they nearly break when hand shaking prior to the whistle, cliff keen headgear(or none @ all when wrestling in any/all Greco/Freestyle tourneys...plus Cliff Keen even makes Tornados...sadly a lot of the rookies on my HS team had them, constantly cutting peoples ears up when sparring. Eventually, ALL of our state qualifiers made it known that they weren’t going to wear that shit anymore during practice lol. Never had a college teammate wear Tornados, but wrestled against others who wore them often), regular socks(double stripped) up high, singlet high, triple smack to face from either older sibling/father, and one of about maybe 3-4 old hardcore metal/rap song playing in the CD Player, and warmed up just enough that nearly ever vein is showing & blood is pumping. My old traditions from memory from HS & Collegiate Wrestling(I’m sure I’m forgetting a few). And my personal opinion was the “hand shake”. 99% of the time, when that hand shake is weak, they’re weak. However, I had a teammate that would do this on purpose & reach his hand out over top hanging it their like a female to see his opponents response. And literally lightly shake his opponents fingers w/ the most psychotic smile. It was priceless! He was 4 time SC 4A State Champion & Player Collegiate Football for Clemson. Given, I don’t think he started doing this until his Senior year. Too funny 🤣

Ankle socks(not all the time but occasionally) singlet as low as i could although not ever lower than my knees and I didn't warm up too much i mean i would warm up before with my team and for a match or two before me but not much more than that. I can say i had a good handshake though
one you missed is; a wrestler that worries about how they look.
A good wrestler doesn't care about socks or headgear or sizing up opponents on how they look.
I had to ban kids from that sort of behavior when I coached. They would talk amongst themselves about who beat who and were always looking at the bracket to figure out who they might wrestle next. That s@*+ shouldn't matter.
you banned kids for being competitive.. nice
You sound like a prick on and off the matt
Damn I'm a victim of the ankle socks 😂💀
My kid is newer, but there is a kid on my kids team, he is stud.. wins em all, beats kids 4 years older than him, ankle socks. If it was his way he'd wear none...weird I know
@Jesus is Fake how can you even feel it being uncomfortable? They're socks, not plastic wrappings. Lol.
@@jesseg94 rubs against your ankles
This is for a bit later in the match but if they have a week tie and let you get inside control easily you know that you can shoot a double leg and then Turk and you're out of the match in seconds
I got a kliff Keen singlet (L) at 5'11 175lbs that still comes all the way down to my knees. I have this dilema where I'm to tall for a medium but to light for a large. It's weird.
I wear double knee pads
And I just won states
King2448 _yt really proff time
One of a kind
King2448 Dude you liked a Ryan’s toys reviews video
@@brodymckune lmao
U mean u won state?
Getting Takendown + pinned by a headlock
Just did my first drunk wrestling match with my friend. I had no idea what i was doing so my strategy was just use strength to over power. It worked for a little bit but he had technique from experience, and the just got me in the end since I didn’t know what I was doing or what I was trying to do.
Trying to start neutral when you’re down
Member of the Tornado posse here 💪
More comfortable and you’re able to hear the coaches a lot better. Vito also rocks rocks them
I know a two timer who wears a tornado headgear
Because success doesn't give a fuck for what's "hip" in Wrestling attire/gear. Lol
My partner had tornado headgear and my parents kept wondering why I was coming home with cuts on my forehead
Kyle Dake wore tornado headgear too I think he was also a double knee pad at times
Dake and IMAR kept the Tornado headgear sales above water! 💰
I used that velcro headgear just cause I loved digging it into their skin, they back up….double leg takedowns all day👌🏾
When the ref has to show them wear to position on top
the low singlet and double knee pad ones are so on point LOL
I wear double kneepads and i feel like going 35-5 as a freshman is pretty good
Chill
JV
I would like to say thats false because i am placing at states at 215
Jesus is fake its michigan and i took 4th
Zachary Painter what’s ur name and what school so I can specify bud
Double kneepads doesn’t have a sign of beginner net because the two best players on our team does double knee pads
Lol my first year I would always “flex” my flabby noodle arms after a win thinking i was cool😂
I disagree with most of them I have one that my coach pointed out it’s going for a handshake after first period
If they don't make eye contact when you shake hands.
Always give the stare down 👀
I look at the hand and give a weak handshake. I also have the tornadoes. I'm not a scrub though :D
Eye of the tiger baby. Eye of the tiger!
Title of this video should be what to wear for wrestling 😂
I started warming up one time and the guy I was wrestling started copying my warmups it was hilarious and if you wanted to know it was a 15 sec. pin😂
I don’t understand. What’s the punchline
@@zerotwo6707 the kid didn’t have his own warmup and wasn’t ready
Thank you for this information, im a Freshman and Wrestling season is near. Dont want to look like a joke
Ima try both of these now
That was my M.O.
Ive not wrestled but jad judo jujitsu comps and it was the guys messn w there belts and gi all the time lol good stuff guys good work!
Just found this channel and I absolutely love it, keep up the good content
I'm glad that you found it. Thanks for watching! 👍
I still use the tornado headgear. Had it since I was 6 years old and just never got a new one now a sophomore in high school 😂
Dude I’m a beginner and I don’t do any of these lol
Clan PLAN B how is it? I’m thinking of joining
Shaine Cortes lit
no way you have to do atleast one
I did weak handshakes to make them super confident and careless. Makes it easier for me.
- matflexes
- crossing the head gear straps in the back
- uni brow head gear in the front
- their stance or movement
- not wearing a chin cup
Chin cup has nothing to do with it
Yeah I wear a chin cup but it's not that serious. & I cross my back straps😂
Chin cup doesn't matter, actually wrestlers that have been wrestling for a long time in high school tend to like no chin cup better.
Dean Heil?
Nah my dude Darius got uni brow straps in the front he's godly on the mat
I will admit that I do wear double knee pads but I started around 7th grade because at the time I also was A hockey goalie so I was on my knees up and down all the time and it just became a huge problem for me with the pain. Yes I know there’s a whole saying of power through it but the knee pads would prevent may burn, And kinda once I started I felt no reason to go back, I can wrestle without any past today and do occasionally but it always hurts a bit more after practice.
So what you’re saying is do ALL of these things and mess with your opponent 😂
I have a soft handshake and I'm a 3x Mayland state champ and a ALL American at MAWA
Screw off, I'm a state player with double knee pads
player lmfao
placer* how did it make player...lmao
This is such a good video. You saved me because I'm a girl who is 5 6 and I am about to start wrestling.
Yelling for their teammate to do a top move while their still in neutral 😂
Nasir Nichols I know a coach who does that but he a goat
Oh yes... I'm older and forgot about that but that's a good one and nobody mentioned it yet bravo. It used to irritate me listening to those greenhorns thinking in fantasy land. Everything's a home run or not even realistic.
5 seconds into the match: "CRADLE"
I’m 2nd in the county and I’m the ankle sock kid, also like to talk to the kids I’m wrestling about shake shack even if it’s just me speaking out loud to them, makes winning so much more fun and hilarious, thinking about getting pink shoes and knee pad with shreck on it too, but wouldn’t do it at a big tournament
Just to clarify shake shack talk happens before the match not during
I actually think it's funny when great wrestlers do these things, we're just messing around anyways.
Too funny 🤣
Now that's specific, but great. I think you hit everything there. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Don’t listen to these people if you do one of things on the list they don’t know what they are talking about
“How many years have you’ve been wrestling?”
your right thats me and many others, i can answer why we do it tho, it because we wanna see if were going against a wrestler thats better than us.
I know people who purposely gave out a weak handshake. To play mind games with their opponents.
