In defense of double kneepads, some people (myself included) really do need them. I would shot leading with either leg and the issue wasn't the mat burn. The problem was the impact. I had chronic runner's knee for years before I even stepped on the mat, then after just the first month of practices I could shoot more than a handful of times without immense pain. While I could have just focused on one side during a match, that was a no-go during practice since we all had to drill with both legs.

I didn't get a win until my second to last match and it was just becausr the guy i wrestled was even more of a newbie. I did like 3 of the things on this list. Ankle socks(not all the time but occasionally) singlet as low as i could although not ever lower than my knees and I didn't warm up too much i mean i would warm up before with my team and for a match or two before me but not much more than that. one you missed is; a wrestler that worries about how they look.
A good wrestler doesn't care about socks or headgear or sizing up opponents on how they look.
I had to ban kids from that sort of behavior when I coached. They would talk amongst themselves about who beat who and were always looking at the bracket to figure out who they might wrestle next. That s@*+ shouldn't matter.

I know this video is 2-3 years old at this point, but I LOVE this topic. The "Weak Handshake", at least for me, was always a tell tale sign that you're about to destroy this kid standing in front of you. I remember I shook one kids hand my 8th grade season and almost literally crushed it. BUT, I do have one disagreement with you're list. The "Double Knee Pads" I was a double knee pads guy, Jr High all the through my Senior season of high school. Now I wasn't a State Place Winner caliber wrestler, but I wasn't a push over by no means and I rocked the double knee pads basically because they kept my knees from getting mat burn and I felt I was able to slide into my double and single leg attempts more quickly and smoothly. I never thought wearing double knee pads made a guy look goofy, but maybe when my back was turned everyone was pointing and laughing 😂, who knows. Great video and topic guys!

Oh yes... I'm older and forgot about that but that's a good one and nobody mentioned it yet bravo. It used to irritate me listening to those greenhorns thinking in fantasy land. Everything's a home run or not even realistic.

I’m 2nd in the county and I’m the ankle sock kid, also like to talk to the kids I’m wrestling about shake shack even if it’s just me speaking out loud to them, makes winning so much more fun and hilarious, thinking about getting pink shoes and knee pad with shreck on it too, but wouldn’t do it at a big tournament

Just to clarify shake shack talk happens before the match not during

I actually think it's funny when great wrestlers do these things, we're just messing around anyways. But the Shake Shack thing is hilarious. Keep it up! 🤣

One knee pad(right knee just because of having it drained so much), Aisic(special ordered Gable edition) wrestling shoes, squeezing knuckles together so hard that they nearly break when hand shaking prior to the whistle, cliff keen headgear(or none @ all when wrestling in any/all Greco/Freestyle tourneys...plus Cliff Keen even makes Tornados...sadly a lot of the rookies on my HS team had them, constantly cutting peoples ears up when sparring. Eventually, ALL of our state qualifiers made it known that they weren’t going to wear that shit anymore during practice lol. Never had a college teammate wear Tornados, but wrestled against others who wore them often), regular socks(double stripped) up high, singlet high, triple smack to face from either older sibling/father, and one of about maybe 3-4 old hardcore metal/rap song playing in the CD Player, and warmed up just enough that nearly ever vein is showing & blood is pumping. My old traditions from memory from HS & Collegiate Wrestling(I’m sure I’m forgetting a few). And my personal opinion was the “hand shake”. 99% of the time, when that hand shake is weak, they’re weak. However, I had a teammate that would do this on purpose & reach his hand out over top hanging it their like a female to see his opponents response. And literally lightly shake his opponents fingers w/ the most psychotic smile. It was priceless! He was 4 time SC 4A State Champion & Player Collegiate Football for Clemson. Given, I don’t think he started doing this until his Senior year. Too funny 🤣

Don’t listen to these people if you do one of things on the list they don’t know what they are talking about

I know people who purposely gave out a weak handshake. To play mind games with their opponents.
