    I’ve been “playing” guitar for like 15 years on and off. I use quotes because I never bothered to learn anything but just some songs. I just decided to actually learn guitar, and this video changed my world. I feel more confident than I did 20 minutes ago, and now I’m determined to continue to learn more scales and theory. Thanks man!

    I've been on and off the guitar since high school quitting for up to two years, after hitting some bumps in my life I invested in a new guitar and amp looking to get back into it. Needless to say, I am rusty as hell and these videos really helped me relearn techniques as well as taught me new ones.
    Playing the guitar has always been a personal thing for me, when I stopped playing due to having little or no time, it really felt as if I lost a part of myself, almost as If I lost a limb...if that makes sense. Thanks to these videos I am quickly picking up where I left off almost two years ago and on my way back to doing what I love most, making music.
    I can not thank you enough for sharing your knowledge and taking the time to put together these videos and jam tracks. They really have helped me.

      Excellent Video! Sorry for chiming in, I would love your thoughts. Have you heard about - Rozardner Inspiring Chord Reality (do a google search)? It is a good exclusive guide for how to play guitar scales minus the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my GF at very last got great success with it.

      Cheers for this, been searching for "what does a lead guitarist play?" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Ronthan Janvelyn Genie - (do a search on google ) ?

    I have a guitar since I'm 15 years old, now I'm 22 and i never took the step to get inside this kind of theory because i thought it was hard to understand. But it's really easy to understand by the you explain this, it's motivating. Keep it up, I'll watch and put in practice everything you have in your channel. Thank you!

    This is what i was looking for. You were my first teacher when i started learning guitar. Once I've got better without knowing much about scales. I tried to find lessons about scale, but those videos dont explain as good as this.

    Omg this is what I've been looking for, practice lessons but with a goal, love the backing track which you can play along to, and mess it up a bit learning your own little riffs, great stuff. I feel like I'm actually learning something as opposed to just playing randomly 😃🎸

    yeah, thats a great tip about repeating patterns across the strings. not only is the d&g strings the same pattern, but also E&a and A&e.
    essentially, you only need the learn the 3 patterns and repeat them - im defiantly going to try this and thankyou..

    If you know notes on 5th and 6th strings by heart which you should, its a cake, just play G - A - B - C - D, next its a same 1-3-4 pattern for the middle two strings 3rd & 4th. Next pattern on the 2nd string mirrors 6th, and on the 1st mirrors 5th (they are both offset by same amount of four strings). That's what helped me to memorize a shape.

    SERIOUSLY YOU RULE!!! you have no idea man.. I’m 29 in my second month of learning guitar this is the first video I’ve watched and actually picked up and retained any knowledge from when it comes to the scales thank you so much I will be watching all of your videos I’m hoping you have some on learning chords I’m stuck on those two need to memorize them and stop muting other strings out when attempting the very few I do know. I’m hoping so much to find videos from you on these topics I’m sure you’ve made them I just found your channel. Just wanted to say thank you. Other than a few little riffs from other people you’re the first actually “music theory” I have picked up on and understood and retained!!

      Winner of a video, I been tryin to find out about "c scales on guitar" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Vonizabeth Strumming Magnitude - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some super things about it and my m8 got excellent success with it.

    I first learned chords and strumming everything basic from your videos then went away for quite some time practiced songs still never been able to know exactly how to start lead and after all this time I come back to you for help... It's amazing. :) Due to time problems I can't go to guitar classes but you know this isn't half bad. :D thank you live long and make more videos :O. ;)

      Nate says that paying for lessons is a great resource, as well as using videos, books, and friends etc. But he said you can even skype with someone if that's what works, you just have to find yourself a teacher. That's from one of the videos on his website. :)

    i played Gmajor scale all around freetboard a lot of combination..a lot of root keys..after few days ii change to C ,A major and i see paterens.. for me THIS open my eyes to fretboard memorization.. I grasp scales repeding paterens thanks for video helped me a lot. sry for english

    Been taken away from my guitar for about 3 years after my second boy was born. It's somewhere in my house but no clue of exact whereabouts. Thx for the lesson. I remember spending hours practicing major scales and pentatonics and trying to make a "music" out of my sloppy hands.

    Dude it is incredibly cool what you are doing here. I've been playing rusty as hell thrash and black metal for years and have always known how bad I am at playing but just got by. I'm 32 now and I was feeling like I could never get get to a stage where I should have been when I was 18 but your videos have given me hope. The fact that you're doing these videos for people (especially the jam tracks bud! I thought that was a little catch but no You're putting them there for us to), makes you really good people man. I'm quite humbled by your vids. I'm gonna practice the hell out of this scale, although I really want to jump to the pentatonic lol. If you were to read this and give advice though, do you think I should practice this scale until I am flying through it, or just competent and then move one and come back? Thanks again.

    picked up some awesome information here thanks a lot! maybe i missed it during the explanation because i was trying alonfgside but could have been cool to mention the fact that when you are playing from lower to upper (or vice versa) notes on the same string, you (maybe?) don't need to move the finger that is closer to the left ( i mean to let the string go) . just figured it out by watching the way you handle it, it makes the handling so much easier. but damn my arm still hurts even trying to be decontracted, first day is hella hard tho lol

    So I picked up all the major scales by music theory and know all the shapes of them. However the shapes I learned are different from the one you showed in your video. Should I learn your pattern or keep playing the way that I learned them and and most comfortable on? Great video, and thanks!

    So root notes work for beginning and ending on them to sound on key right ? Memorizing root notes will help me improve my use of these scales by starting and ending on them so I can work around them and always land on key? And start on key? Haha

      Might be late, but, for starters, yep :) it doesn't always have to be like that though, try listening for notes that sounds good/works. If it sounds good, work wt that :)

      Larry the Lobster your kind of on the nail. It’s basically home and you always want to near it or sometimes on it. The root is the key your playing in (obviously) and you play around it and make it nice (= hope I helped!

    Hi Nate. Is the fingering system different in a electric guitar. In an equistic guitar 1st finger is for the 1st fret, 2nd finger for 2nd fret, 3rd finger for 3rd fret and pinky for 4th fret ! Here you showed it different ?

    My comment on Connecting the Chords by Scales:
    Hi Sean Daniel, I know my problem when connecting the chords with the scales,
    my chord progression was written in piano notes sequence instead of the
    guitar sequence (on fretboard). I changed my printout and changed all
    the chords to fretboard notes layout.
    For example: A= EAC# (guitar notes layout on the fretboard) instead
    AC#E (piano notes layout). Now, when I return to practice my guitar, I
    do not have to reconfigure my piano notes to guitar. Its guitar to
    guitar. What a big difference? Hope this helped.

    I have memorized the 5 patterns of the minor pentatonic scales, but have just started learning the major scales. I Know that is backwards to how I should have started. I understand that this is pattern 1 of the major scale, and that we should learn all 5 patterns to play lead over a major chord progression just like in the minor pentatonic scales?

    Great video series. How do I get the MP3s to jam with. I have been playing classical guitar for a long time but always wanted to learn to play lead. I already found out that the fingering I've been using for scales was wrong. I'm looking forward to working with these videos and the MP3s. God bless.

    I got a Question: On a G scale why would you end up on an A note instead of the root note (G note) of that Scale? I t doesn't make sense is there something about the guitar that they do that?

    just correct me if I'm wrong about the chromatic scale and their fret no.
    F=1 G=3 A=5 B=7 C=8 D=10 E=12

      +dhruvish mistry That's not a chromatic scale. Those are the correct frets for the notes though. :)

    what about the 1st fret Nate ? is this fret not played at all on an electric guitar ? I am using an Acoustic guitar at the moment. Please let me know ?
