- Most Dangerous Ways To School | MEXICO | Free Documentary
Every Monday, little Lorenzo struggles alone as he makes his way over slippery scree and past steep canyons. And all this just so he can go to school and receive something to eat there. The 6-year-old lives in northwest Mexico in the extensive Sierra Madre Occidental. This is the home of his people, the Rarámuri. These indigenous peoples live well-hidden in the mountains and have hardly any contact with the outside world. Their daily lives revolve around agriculture and livestock; poverty is a big issue for the Rarámuri. To escape this fate, Lorenzo must literally overcome more than 1000 metres altitude. One small lapse of concentration, one careless step and Lorenzo could fall off the edge.
At school, Teresa, Angela and Philomena sit next to him. These sisters, aged 6, 8 and 9, can see the school from their home, which sits on a plateau opposite. But to get there requires a journey of many hours, which takes them over narrow and rocky paths, onto sharp rock edges, across a stream, and - just before they reach their destination - forces them to climb again steeply uphill over smooth rocks on all fours. If it is raining, this journey becomes an almost impossible one: the stream is transformed within minutes into a torrent, and the rocks are suddenly as slippery as an ice rink.
These children undertake their journey to school all by themselves. For up to four hours, they march through one of the most beautiful but also one of the most dangerous Mexican landscapes. Throughout this journey they all have only one goal in mind: to ultimately find a job in a city and lead a better life.

Any body notice the children are respectful, nothing like the city kids.
Not all city kids are disrespectful.
Yes, not all but Most. Not many, Most. It's extremely depressing. And it's not their fault. The Parents sadly are to blame. I was born and raised in the Formally great city of San Francisco. I don't care what anyone says. I've lived 40 years here and these kids are so terrible I literally can't put it in words. Now it's so bad that I will go nowhere after dark, Period! I call them the "ULTRA VIOLENT". Because that's what they truly are. This is a horrible fact that goes unnoticed. And it all starts with the PARENTS
They seem humbled and well respected.

My god..a six year old on that trail .. absolutely insane. Poor little guy. All alone. The girls are pretty quick on their path and how they can make it in those ridiculous sandals I seriously can't imagine. I would struggle in walking boots! God keep them safe ❤❤
The sandals are design to walk in that environment. The raramuris are known to run in those sandals and barefoot

Congrats you made it! Because you believe in your self with the help of your parents!.

I salute you for your courageand for your quest to learn. I would love to hear your story if you feel like sharing. Where are you from? And how did you manage all these years of education? I salute your courage again.
Ächang Wangsa that's wonderful. Congrats 🥰 much love

Lorenzo is the bravest kid I have ever seen. He climbed an entire mountain and then some just to go to school. It’s both amazing and sad to see this.
Me recuerda mucho mi niñez.
This six year old Lorenzo is verry couragious and it shows that life can be hard today but kind tomorrow as long as you stick to your goals.I wish him and the girls a bright future.
May God bless Lorenzo..I hope he get all his dreams..I'm crying when watched his way to get school in his age 😭😭

GuildBankLooter it doesn’t suck just that part where they live is like trash but Mexico is a good state so no need to give hate ;-;
God bless my dad for going through this too. I don’t think the Mexican government was feeding them because he would take a few tortillas for the week, often going hungry. He would leave for school early Monday and return late Friday or early Saturday. He was super good at math and his hand writing is really good, but had to stop after 6th grade because he’s parents could no longer afford to send him to school.
I’m so proud of him for working hard, coming to the USA, and getting his GED!
the mexican goverment was so corrupt i ended coming to the US

God did and will continue to bless you and your dad with wonder opportunities

Que lugar es?
My dad walked to school everyday shoeless and crossed multiple rivers at the Mixteca, Oaxaca, México (Chalcatongo)
Now he's an engineer at Boeing satellite systems...the US some how saw talent in him and offered him a position.
Thanks to him I've been able to know and experience a comfortable life.
Although he never needed to cross to the US illegally he went through the struggle in his homeland.
Amen and praise the lord❤
With sangre Oaxaqueño every thing is possible ✊🏽 lets continue to show the people that the indigenous can be big in this world too 🇲🇽
I'm Pueblano, we migrated to the U.S when I was 9 years old. My dad now owns a trucking business, my sister trains school teachers, my other sister is in the medical field, my lil brother is in environmental science and I work in law enforcement.
It’s beautiful to see all of your father’s sacrifices and hard work come to bountiful fruition. I hope your family stays blessed. 💜
My step brother died crossing the rivers. He never lived such a beautiful dream as we have in the United States. Let's also think of those whom didn't make it and didn't become wealthy and died trying! 😥
The girls are adorable... they giggled and played all the way to school even though the journey was hard and painful on their little feet.
You are absolutely right even though the documentary is sad.watching the girls enjoying their way to school laughing with each other it make me smile
Adorable was the exact word I was going to use and it was going to use and apparently everyone else since its the top post.. Even the mother is adorable. She looks like she could still be in her teens.

This little boy captured my heart when I first saw this. I pray he is doing well and continuing to thrive through education. ♥️🙏🏼 God bless these children.
Guys, I am crying for Lorenzo. Can we get an update? I hope all the kids are doing well.
My heart broke seeing what these kids go thru😭💔

When you realize that your path to education has been an elevator, with seating and catering. Stop complaining.
Mannnnnn listen I feel so stupid for not continuing my degree. This makes me so upset they have to go through hell just to learn and we take simplest things light

sharri What a wise comment.
My 10 minute commute to school is nothing compared to what these kids have to go through I will never complain about my commute ever again
Yeah, I could literally scream from my school and my mum would hear me
So heartbreaking watching him walking alone..I hope the government could help these poor kids..
Lady Red the government doesn't give a shit about it, it's very sad to see this kids struggle that hard just to learn to read and write, it shouldn't be that way. If you think all the millionares in the world that they don't even know what to do with the money, and this kids make the impossible just to go to school, this world is so wrong, "Very, very sad"

My heart goes out to them,,especially Lorenzo, he’s still a baby😢
My dad is from La Piedad and he would always tell us about his life before he came here and got his citizenship. My most memorable stories are the ones of him walking to school 7 miles each way barefoot regardless of the weather. (And he would always remind my brothers an I, "& that was AFTER I got up before the sun to feed the animals & help mi mama make fresh tortillas". I have so much respect for my father and all he has been through😞 he came here walking & alone with only my uncle Reynaldo when he was 10 and his brother 14😳 that is INSANE to me! He has worked hard all his life and continues to do so in his late 70's(@ the same company since he was 15). My father is my hero and such an inspiration!

the cameraman is having a hard time catching the 3 girls. hehehe
All school kids need to see this. Especially kids in America.
Dzung Tran you mean kids in the United States....we’re all Americans on this side of the world
Some of the kids in America are lazy ingrates and do not deserve the free public education that they have rights to. I work for one of the biggest school dist. in Northern Ca. and teachers are literally dropping like flies at the school i work at bc the the little brats are so bad. If you made them watch this they would laugh and make fun of these poor children. The children in this video have more character and determination than in their little pinky then any of the little shits i work with. I pray that God watch over them closely and get them to and from safely.
Victor DeMarco your prolly a bad at your job, find a new one.
@@kaitlyncowger6602 Nope Kaitlyn! Actually, little girrl, I am great at my job. Also, you just proved my point though about kids being rude and disrespectful. You don't know me and you don't know the type of kids I work with, so when and until then...why don't you shut your big mouth and go talk about something you do know about, but that "PROLLY" isn't much since you clearly can't write and have no grasp of the English language or correct grammar. Open a book, learn something, and pay attention in school. Read books too because reading will also help with your poor reading and writing skills.
@@kaitlyncowger6602 Victor is right. Although all kids aren't bad, there are some spoiled ones that don't understand the privileges given to them and act rude and disrespectful. You'll understand when you're older.
I watched this documentary in the context of English task in my school. I had a lot of different thoughts after watching and one of the main ideas is how lives could be different. As a student who lives in the modern city, I want to say that students, whose lives are demonstrated in the video, really inspire me. Their need and necessity in education. I guess that they are really purposeful and that is a reason why they have to be educated same as other children.

@finn bell "tough as a mountain goat". The only comparison OP made of the kid to the goat was toughness. I think you may be as dumb as a goat though.

Definitely a tough little man. He certainly are that bush like a goat.
I never cry because I am tough man, I have feelings of steel. But watching Lorenzo made me cry like a little kid! How is that little one so alone in the wilderness with nobody around for miles and miles and going through so much danger, with blisters on feet, with rain against him, with coyotes, snakes around him, climbing the most treacherous terrain of the world. How does he do it? Not once, not twice, but multiple times? There's gotta be an angel protecting him from all the dangers. Each night I am going to pray for kids like them to be safe, and if there is also a way to donate money for them I will, we all should.
Bless your heart William. And I think it’s his mother that watches over him. So he’s not completely alone!!
