SO many fun picture books! I loved the look of the Evergreen squirrel! The tea poems too. Have you ever read any of Kobi Yamada’s works? His “what you do matters” series is one of my favorites and Feeling Grateful is really precious. I felt similarly about immense world. I liked it but the science got a little immense. 😅
Both of those picture books I think would totally be up your alley! Thank you for the recommendation, I only can see one of Yamada's picture books available at my library, so I will try that! Oh yay, glad I'm not the only one who didn't *love* Immense World because I definitely feel in the minority on that one.
@@GloriaZThompson “Maybe” is the only Yamada I have felt iffy about. It’s his most popular, but I think it’s because of the art. I like it but I love what do you do with a chance? And the other 2 in that series more than maybe!
Couldn’t agree more about needing hope in dark books. I have Chain Gang All Stars and I am quite wary of reading it for the reasons you mentioned! I am really not in the mood for grim. Drawn from Nature looks stunning! Love Melissa Castrillon - The Yellow Kayak is the only one I don’t have! You look so well! ❤
Thank you for the kind words! Yes, I'm realizing head space is important during this time of transition for me, and if I can't handle reading something - then that's okay! I saw Castillon has so many books with beautiful illustrations, I definitely see myself getting some art print for a future kids room!
This video was just what I needed on a rainy morning here. Cannot wait for more videos from you, especially as you continue to shift into this new season of your life.
Oh glad you love demon - I will read David Copperfield in Oct and then plan to pick up Demon but unsure if I will like it but you did so that’s hopeful. I do want to try divine rivals too but not sure when. I still need to read Wonder too. Evergreen sounds sweet.
I think Demon Copperhead is totally your kind of read! I hope you like both, I may do the opposite and read David Copperfield after because I'd love to see Kingsolver's inspiration and how similar they are.
Great wrap up, Gloria! Very interested to hear your thoughts on Happiness Falls as I enjoyed Angie Kim’s 1st book. I still haven’t read Demon Copperhead; I’m nervous about all the hype! 😂📚
I was nervous too but came away so pleasantly surprised with Demon Copperhead! You can't help but love the main character and that helped get through any stuff that wasn't a favorite or hard to read.
Sure thing! Basically, it was a group of 12, one host for each month of the year. The host chose the cookbook and then we all had a group text where we chose recipes from the book as to not double up. We’d meet on a Sunday evening and each bring our dishes. Then we’d discuss the dishes and how the recipe went and what not. It was tons of fun and a great way to visit and connect with each other. The books we chose: - Moosewood Cookbook by Mollie Katzen - Mamushka by Olia Hercules - Pulp by Abra Berens - Six Seasons by Joshua McFadden - No Crumbs Left by Terri Turner - Jerusalem by Yottam Ottolenghi - Half Baked Harvest Everday by Tieghan Gerard - The Lost Kitchen by Erin French
☕️🫖 For a little bit there it seemed like you had a disappointing reading month- I’m glad it turned out that there were some stand-out books you enjoyed. A Place to Hang the Moon was such a cozy children’s historical fiction! I’m looking forward to Nothing Else But Miracles, and I’m also planning to check out Divine Rivals in October, since the second book is out in November 😊 I hope you have a lovely time resting and readying these next few weeks 🙏🏼
True! It's been a reading year of "mehs" to be honest, but a few good ones here and there. Fingers crossed for better reads towards this last quarter of the year!
You may have convinced me to read Demon Copperhead. I do love the author’s writings, I just thought this sounded so depressing. But as you say, the narrator may make it bearable!
It had a lot of sad and intense moments for sure, but it was more hopeful than I anticipated. I think the narration/character work really shines and pulled me through the thought parts. I’d give it a go!
Chain Gang is likely out of my comfort zone as well, but I'm reading the nonfiction version of it with the Fatal Shore--history of convict transportation founding modern Australia... 😳
Interesting! I loved hearing about Demon Copperhead, I’ve been wondering about that one! ♥️ I’m totally checking out Drawn from Nature to read with my littlest. 😍
I felt the same as you about "The Swimmers". I haven't read "Happiness Falls" yet but I own a copy and I'm really looking forward to it. I loved "Miracle Creek".
Wow. Except for the graphic novels and the picture books I’m with you on all the ratings! I can’t get into graphic novels at all and picture books are only interesting to me if they are photographs. Weird I know. I gave Demon 5 stars rounded up. I tried to listen to An Immense World but just couldn’t hang in there. I DNF’d it.

That is so sweet! Thank you for the kind and encouraging words. 💕
I’m bummed you didn’t enjoy Bear as much as I did, but I’m glad you talked about it. Great reading month!❤

Great wrap up! I read Wonder a long time ago and loved it! I added White Bird to my TBR recently cause I saw the movie poster at my cinema 😊
White Bird is a great and quick graphic novel to pickup! Is there a movie coming out though - I didn't know!?
@@GloriaZThompson I didn’t see any promo for the movie (maybe because of the strike?) just stumbled across the poster at my theatre!
Glad you picked up Fly Girl and enjoyed it!
Thank you for mentioning it - it was a great memoir and I had never heard of it prior to your vlog!
Would love to here more about your cookbook club..the books and recipes . I love to cook..and cookbooks to read!

I really need to read Demon Copperhead. Loved the movie Wonder. Haven’t read the book. Love the diversity of your reads this month. 😊💙
I totally think Demon Copperhead could be a Jolene kind of book!
Chain Gang is likely out of my comfort zone as well, but I'm reading the nonfiction version of it with the Fatal Shore--history of convict transportation founding modern Australia... 😳
That sounds so interesting, but also a tough read! Hope all is well with you Margaret. Thanks for watching (:

Oh yes, I hope you enjoy it! Such a lovely nature picture book.

I hope you enjoy Happiness Falls as much as I did! A great read!
Nice video
Too bad you didn’t love The Swimmers! You might like The Buddha In The Attic better!

Loving having a book twin for the most part and sharing similar thoughts on reads! Thanks for checking in Glenda. ❤️
