I would keep the happiest project. Gretchen shares great ideas how to embrace parenthood and make beautiful memories. Great video!
@@kdouble4 Didn’t know that, thank you for the suggestion!
new subscriber here! I love ur vibe. :) and ur son is adorable. can't wait for more videos
@@leilanijenna thank you so much for saying hi and the kind words! 💕
Sophie Irwin’s books (she has 2) were my favorites of 2023 too! SO good
@@Catloudan Yes I read both! Hope she comes out with more soon.
A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, it was one of my favorites, and a side note, where do you sell your honey and what’s the name of their company, we have a daughter in Sherwood so we come that way alot, would love to get some of your families honey. Love your channel .
@@juliewitty2635 That book has been recommended the most so far - I will definitely be reading it soon! Oh so close, we are on the outskirts of the Clackamas area. If you look up “Bee Way Honey” on Google our address is listed. Would love to meet ya!
Please speak louder. Thanks. I’m 77 but your site is tough for me to hear.
The Reading List by Sara Nisha Adams! My favorite book
Thanks for the vote! I've heard great things about that one.
“You just lose the mood” YES
I loved my Brilliant Friend and the next three Neapolitan books, Anna Karenina is great, as is Tess! Ferante, Tolstoy and Hardy are all excellent writers! So I’m here talking to your video, saying “nooooo, keep that one, you will read it one day and love it!”However, those are some of my favorites. I do admire you are able to let go of the ones you don’t think you will ever read or reread.Happy unhauling!
What a great video!!! I love people I’ll never meet understand a part of me that some of my daily people never will😂 John Mark Comer books are good!
Thank you! Yes, I was so blessed to have John Mark be the pastor of our church for 10+ years. He's an incredible teacher.
i recommend Small Great Things. I'm currently reading Qmericn Dirt for the 2nd time. tHIS TIME FOR BOOK CLUB. i ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT.
@@an80slady Thank you for the recommendations! Both of those I really want to read.
love a book un-haul ... as much as a book haul. Commend you on your diligence in getting rid of books. I'm so in denial about going thru all my TBR books - and parting with ones I haven't read yet. I do NOT keep anything I've read unless I truly think I will re-read it at some point. Have a fun September with all your celebrations! Jacqueline
Thank you Jacqueline! And yes, I'm with you on getting rid of all the books. I thought I would keep more of my read ones, but seem to be giving them up easily.
A.J. Fikry is one of my all time favs. It is wonderful.
Ok great! I am skeptical of me liking that one, but the recommendation will push me to pick it up sooner.
I purge my shelves every quarter. Sometimes it’s hard to find books to unhaul and other times there’s no stopping me!😂
Love that idea! I have done 2 so far in the last year, and I see myself getting rid of even more.
There are quite a few on your shelf that I've read and enjoyed but if I can only pick one to recommend that you read, I have to say The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain. Absolutely loved it.
That one now has multiple votes, so it will definitely be read soon! Thank you for watching!
I recommend The Downstairs Girl! I really enjoyed it- it is a great story, lovable characters, unique historical context, and not a “heavy” read
You're the second person to vote for that one, so I think I'll have to read it sooner rather than later.
Washington Black is the best book I've read this year, hands down! and I think our taste is pretty similar!
Ooo, good to know! I may have to give it a go before unhauling for real. I thought it may be too literary for me.
A Piece of the World was really bad (in my opinion).. 2 stars.. if it hadn't been a short book I would have DNFed it. Pillars of the Earth is an all time favorite read.. that said I read it a LONG time ago when I was just getting back into to reading so I don't know if I would still love it now. So a more recent vote would be This Tender Land. Finn is so super cute!! Glad you guys are on the mends!
Literally nothing about Piece of the World sounds interesting and I didn't like the first chapter. I'd only read it because I loved Orphan Train. So maybe I'll finally pull the plug on it during my next unhaul. Pillars I've put off for too long and I think I need to read soon because I've not heard anyone say a bad thing about it - I hope I love it. Tender Land is happening soon!
I'd reccommend The Storied Life of AJ Fikry by: Gabrielle Zevin.
Thanks for your vote! I'll add it to my priority list.
Loved what the wind knows!!
I read homecoming and the forgotten garden and loved them! I have the rest of Kate Morton’s books but the fact is they so long! I know I’ll love them but they huge!! I’ve been wanting to read the lake house for a while!
Can't wait to try Kate Morton myself - hope I love her writing!
I need to read the diamond eye!
I didn’t love the Paris library the way others did
I really need to read the giver of stars!
A must-read if you love historical fiction!
I loved the nightengale!
I also don’t care about Daisy jones
It does feel good to get a lot of books you're no longer interested in off your shelves. I purged mine a few times four or five years ago, and now I don't usually find as many books to get rid of (though that might change with all the books I've been buying the last few years). It's so hard to narrow your list down to one book, but I'm going to go with Greenglass House. It's a fun middle grade read, and everything else I thought of recommending is harder hitting, so since you're interested in lighter, more fun books lately, I'll go with that one.
Thank you for picking that lighter, fun middle grade! I'll aim to pick it up this winter. ❄️
P.S. SORRY! Meant thanks Gloria...
I LOVE almost all of J. Chiaverini'shistorical fiction bks; but I like the type that has lots of facts. Also loved The Snow Child. That author had a new one come out 2 yrs. ago?? Got it and will read this winter. Finn is adorable! Can't believe he is 11 mos! Thanks Jen
I read Eowyn Ivey's To the Bright Edge of the World and didn't love it as much as Snow Child, but hope you still enjoy it! I may have to at least *try* Chiaverini's books before I give up completely. Which one of hers is your favorite?
I love unhauls!
Thanks for watching!
You are so good being brutal - I go through moments of wanting to be brutal and then I remember rebuying books I got rid of in the past! I've decided that I need to do an unhaul of books I can bear to part with and also have some rules around physical book buying which is purely because of the lack of space and remembering how difficult I find it to get rid of books once I own them. From your list, if I had to pick one, it would be A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I had My Brilliant Friend out of the library for a couple of months and then when that list was released, thought I should read the first 50 pages and it was a dnf - I could see why it gets praise but I didn't want to read about lifelong frenemies from the perspective of a jealous character that I just didn't like.
Ok yes, thank you for describing Brilliant Friend in that way -- it's definitely a no from me and what I like in books. And I think Tree Grows in Brooklyn has now been recommended the most, so highly prioritizing that one to be read soon!
@@GloriaZThompson 🤍
Great job on organizing and unhauling! The books on your list that I have read and stuck with me are The Kitchen House, Plain Truth, This Tender Land, Cane River and Burial Rites. I’d also say Pillars of the Earth but it is a chunky monkey!
Thank you for your recommendations, I will definitely add them to my priority list! I need to read Pillars because I've not heard a single bad thing about it and hope to love it too.
The Dream Daughter by Diane Chamberlain
Yes high on the priority list to try that author!
From your Goodreads link, I recommend West with the Night. It was funnier than I thought it would be.
Cool, would never think it would be humorous so that’s a plus!
Girl with the Louding Voice
Thanks for the suggestion!
Okay, I love 3 of your Christian NF books. Just thinking about what you stated where your level of “deep thinking” is currently, I’m going to say Unoffendable is my one choice. Gosh it’s hard to stop there though!😂
Ooo great pick! I need to read more of the Christian NF on my shelves, so I appreciate your vote.
Loved this video! Loved seeing Finn- almost one😱🤯‼️🎉 Way to be brutal with your shelves 💪🏻 I’ll head to goodreads & be back…❤
Thanks for watching and saying hi! 💕
The book on your list that jumped out to me was The Feather Thief. It was in my top 5 in 2023!
Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll make note of that! I hope I love that popular nonfiction.
Girl, I’m a first time momma as well and my baby girl is 10 months old. I look “disheveled” the majority of most days haha. & also feel how hard it is to get stuff done during this season. It’s tough but also filled with all the love. I’m inspired now to get all my books onto my Goodreads. Project accepted lol
Oh man, I'm so with you! "Wild and wonderful" are my words for this season. Haha, love that I've encouraged you to do the same - hope you have fun with it like me.
@@GloriaZThompson funny, I’m actually from West Virginia and our state slogan is “wild and wonderful” lol but I definitely agree!
@@WhitneysReadingJourney that’s too funny!
I had fun looking through your Goodreads shelf - there are SO many good ones on there, but I'm going to recommend A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. There are many others I'd love to mention (like the two true accounts of real people: Angela's Ashes and Unbroken - absolute INCREDIBLE reads), but for fiction, I'm going with A Tree Grows in Brooklyn 🙂 On another note, I read 300 pages of Wolf Hall and GAVE UP!! I love the Tudor era and this was just too much for me! Also, I just ordered your Pango book, The Salt Path! It sounds soooo good! Hubby is from England, we love Cornwall and Devon - so I can't wait to get it! :)
Thanks for taking the time to look and voting for A Tree Grows in Brooklyn - I hope to read it this month! Good for you on stopping Wolf Hall - that was not the book for us. Also, you are so sweet for purchasing Salt Path - it's on it's way! 💕 I hope you enjoy it as much as I did - and how cool that you are familiar with the region the author is walking through with her husband.
I recommend The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict. I just finished a short story by this author, Agent 355. It was fantastic. I suspect Marie Benedict may become a favorite author for me. Please give Finn a hug for me. He is absolutely adorable.❤
Thank you for your recommendation, Katie! I really need to try her as an author - hope I love her too. I'll give Finn a big squeeze. 💕
The Little Prince is really good and a quick read if you want to just knock out a TBR book in a sitting or two!
Excellent choice, thank you!
I have read a few of the books on your shelf, and I think that the one I would recommend is The Downstairs Girl. Because it is YA I think you'll be able to fit it in easier, and while it does deal with heavy issues, it isn't so heavy that it is depressing.
Wonderful pick, Tammy! Glad you chose something "easier" amongst all the heavy-hitting historical fiction I own.
I recommend Being Mortal. I teach a Health Psychology course and have a book club assignment. It’s one of the options and it seems like students have enjoyed it so I’ve been keeping it on the list.
Thank you for the recommendation, Melissa! Adding that to the priority list (maybe for nonfiction november)!
The Things They Carried and Angela's Ashes are both great reads for different reasons.
Great nonfiction picks that I can't believe I haven't read yet. Adding them to the priority list!
I’d love to hear your thoughts on the invention of Hugo Cabret!! And Firefly Lane and I think you should read the little prince since I think you’d really like it
Thank you for the recommendations, Helen! Adding to the priority list.
@@GloriaZThompson of course! I hope you like them!
I love how ruthless you were....unhaul with an "I just don't care"!! I can really appreciate that :)
Haha, thank you! I was in the mood to purge and it came out with my attitude. 🙃
What a project! I love goodreads for the info and sorting. I use storygraph for their stats only. The unhaul - “I don’t care and I don’t care”. 😂 Good for you. I am horrible at unhauling. 😊💙
Haha, I was in a *mood* when doing this project but made it easy to purge and fun along the way. Any other time, it would have been harder. I actually inputted them in storygraph as well after posting this, and love the info it gave me on my owned books - most notably the genre breakdown and the moods of the books. Fun to see all those stats.
@@GloriaZThompson yes. Love Storygraph for the stats and how they set up reading challenges. 😊
From your Goodreads link, if I can only choose one (there were several!) to recommend it would be The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd.
Love that, happy to add a historical to the priority list. Thanks for choosing that!
The island of sea women by Lisa See. 2nd choice-winter garden by Kristin Hannah. Both really good reads.
Thanks for picking some excellent historical fiction. I hope I love both.
Can I pick two? I really loved Lady of the Rivers, but also Time Traveller’s Wife jumps out of the list ✨
Yes you can pick two! Great picks, noting them as priority reads - thank you!
