I have read all of the Into the Wilderness books and some Outlander. Very much alike with no time travel. Set in New York state with lots of early US history. One of my favorite series!
Okay, sounding soo good! Thanks for sharing. Is there a best season to read it in you think?
I think the Spring might work.😊
@@wendyp6198 Perfect! Thanks.
I’ve also been persuaded by all the love James has gotten in the Best of 2024 lists to give it a go.
Hope we both love it! 🤞🏼
I was doubtful about reading James when I read the first few pages. I pushed thru that and happy I did. Everett did a wonderful thing writing the story thru James’ voice.
Good to know! Thanks for sharing your reading experience.
Great video. My hold for Unequal Affections just came in. Excited to read it.
Thank you Shannon! Ahh, hope you love it. Happy reading!
Love the Maisie Dobbs books 🙂 So I might have to read the Ashley Weaver book.
It comes highly recommended, so I hope it’s a good mystery series.
Thanks for the recommendations. There’s some I’ve heard of but quite a few I haven’t. Also, I love your sweater!!
Thank you so much! It's my new cozy everyday sweater this winter.
James is on my radar, too. I loved Emma M Lion and the Timeless series. And Amanda Dykes' writing is so gorgeous.
I hope I love all those too along with everyone else. 😊
“Foster” is BEAUTIFUL ❤
Hope I love it!
James was, by far, my favorite book of 2024! (not necessary to read Huck Finn) I’m jealous that you get to read it for the first time ♥️ Also, I’m reading the final Maisie Dobbs book. 😢 Not every book has been a 5 star, but the last 2 are a wonderful conclusion! Enjoy 🎉
I lovee hearing that! Can't wait to wrap it up and hope it all ends well. I hope I love James too, like everyone else!
Read Eleanore of Avignon and really enjoyed and I read it based on a recommendation and was skeptical but truly enjoyed it!
Oh great! I hope I have a similar experience.
I recommend listening to the Into the Wilderness series. I used libby to borrow them from the library. They are long but fanastic listens. This is my all time favorite series!
Yes, love an audiobook rec. I will definitely do that and hope I love it too! Thanks.
I have been totally sucked into the Emma M. Lion series! They are self-published-a lot of people read them on kindle unlimited. Something to know ahead of time is that they’re written a lot like a TV series-very episodic, with lots of little storylines underlying the big one. I thought the first one was just okay; it feels like an introduction to the series. It gets good in the 2nd book. (I personally wish the first two books had been combined.)
@@emilyhubbardwrites ok THANK YOU for the info! Good to know going in. I’m sooo curious how I’ll get along with it.
I still need to read James. I enjoyed Foster more than Some Things Like These. I’ve read Into The Wilderness but haven’t continued with the series. I remember enjoying the book and yes, it is Outlander-ish. Some new series on your list I’ve never heard of. 😊💙
I’m eager to get to James and hope I’m not disappointed from all the hype it has.
Into the Wilderness is great! It is available on Audible.
Emma M. Lion series is on Kindle Unlimited.
Thank you for the tip! I have some audible credits that will need to be used, so I'll definitely try it then.
I’m interested to hear what you think of James. I just listened to the audio book this month and thought it was just ok. 😱. I recently listened to both Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn and what I didn’t like in both of those is what I didn’t like in James. I get why people like it but it wasn’t enough for me. I think Kindred by Octavia E Butler gave me a more memorable and raw reading experience on the treatment of slaves.
Thank you for sharing your reading experience! No shame on not loving James. See if glad I read Kindred, but I didn’t love it like so many. Maybe that’ll be the same for me with James.
This is Happiness was a favorite read a couple years ago! I just picked up another of his, but it isn't Time of the Child.
I've never seen anyone mention this author, so I'm eager to give it a go.
Niall williams was my author find of 2024! He writes so beautifully. After "this is happiness" I got 3 more and binged them (History of the rain, Four letters of Love, The fall of light) am taking a small break to read some other things but will definitely read his other 4 or so novels! Enjoy!
@ I have four letters! What has been your favorite so far??
@@novelideea so hard to say. This is happiness or history of the rain. But 4 letters was also good. Enjoy!
I think you would like Susie Finkbeiner. I read Stories that Bind Us and I can't stop thinking about it! Chantel loved another of hers even more something about Nature in the title. I am intrigued to pick up James. I enjoyed The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. I hope you find some great new authors out of this list!
Thanks Lindsay for the rec! Yes, I’ve heard of her from Chantel too. I think it’s just harder for me to find her books on Libby/Library or our in the wild. But I’ll keep my eye out.
@@GloriaZThompson My library had one of hers on Hoopla but not all of her books.
I agree, you don't need to read Huck in order to get James!
Ok great!
THE TIMELESS SERIES!!!❤️ Favorite series of all time! You’ll never want the series to end once you pick up book 1.
The Timeless series and The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah are forever my favorites!
I love the high praises for it, it makes me excited to give it a go!
The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lion are amazing. I didn't get the hype so I read the first one on Kindle Unlimited and loved it! Its such quirky humor and a fun time. And the Timeless Series is so great, her writing is well done and it is such a unique premise.
Love hearing that! I hope I enjoy both of these.
I read The Lion Women of Tehran and enjoyed it. I have not read The Stationary Shop (is that the name?), but this one is different in terms of story line/trope by that sound of things.
I hope I’ll enjoy it too!
I just finished Eleanore this month and did enjoy it, though it has a bit of content I could have done without.
Hmm, okay, good to know! I think I'll still give it a go.
No need to read Huck Finn before James. My only complaint with James is I thought it ended a little abruptly.... I just checked my library catalog and it has all the Emma M. Lion books....Happy reading
I'm going to request my library get the Emma M Lion books! Thanks for the tip on James, hope I get along with it.
Somehow I haven’t heard of any of these 😂 I’m excited to try some
@@sarahj87 love when that happens!
Oh I LOVE the timeless series string female characters but also flawed and struggling. Hard to say if you'd love it too if dual timelines aren't your thing as that's the case in all of these books.
That's great to know, I'll keep that in mind! I may not love it but at least want to try it!
I read The Lion Women of Tehran. It was enjoyable, it was a strong enduring friendship. I have the Eleanore of Avignon & Foster, they are on my TBR. ❤
That’s sounds like a good theme to read for me. Hope I enjoy it more than her previous book.
The Ashley Weaver series is very entertaining and good. The main character and her uncle are locksmiths with a burglary background. The team up with a spy office in England during world War II and use their skills to steal or retrieve sensitive info. I have read the entire series and all have been very good except the newest which was still ok. Happy reading
Thanks for sharing your reading experience! I’m excited to get into another historical mystery series and enjoy it.
I kept hearing about Small Things Like These, so I have that here to try. I generally don't like time travel HF, but that's just me. That's the one book on the list that I would be least drawn, but I know how popular the Outlander series was/is!
Yes it’s either a theme people love or hate. I don’t think Into the Wilderness had any time travel elements.
I put James onto reserve at our library... I'm in a LONG queue!! That's ok. I've read 3 of the Gabrielle Meyer's series, they're good - really different than any Christian fiction I've read. Back in 2000 or thereabouts, I read Into the Wilderness. I think it's set in the 1700s on the East coast of the US. I didn't like it much, but that was probably because I was expecting a "pioneer, old West" type story and this is definitely NOT that. I think I'd appreciate it more now, and might want to try it again.
Yes long wait for James for me too! Good to know, I don’t have many expectations with Into the Wilderness except just hoping I like it since it comes so highly recommended.
Not me making you nervous, girl lol. I do think you'll probably enjoy Eleanore.
I loved an Amanda Dykes book. Beautiful writing
@@Molly-s6u I hope I get along with her storytelling too.
I picked up the first Emma M. Lion book. At first I was ho-hum about it, but by the end of it, I ordered the second. I haven’t started it yet.
Ooo, ok. I'm getting more and more curious about it as people are sharing their experiences with it.
@GloriaZThompson I think they’re a fun, light read. I finished All Quiet on the Western Front. I started book two after. Use it as a palette cleanser, but don’t expect anything deep or meaningful.
Yes, yes once you start into the wilderness, you are hooked forever
Love hearing that and good to know! Thank you, Suzanne!
@ fyi, there is a lovely older TV series that is really good, starring Lynda Carter and Lee Hoarsley called Hawkeye..very good, many seasons…I swear it is fashioned after the Wilderness series….
I recently read Foster, and it was a good book. ❤📚📚❤️
Oh great!
I’ve read ‘The lion women of Tehran’ just this month and loved it. I read ‘Foster’ a while ago and loved it too, it’s also been made in to a very beautiful and touching film. A historical fiction book I’ve read this month and enjoyed very much is ‘A little trickerie’ by debut author Rosanna Pike, I just fell in love with the main protagonist.
Thanks for sharing that historical fiction! Never heard of it. Good to know Foster has an adaptation as well.
I read JAMES in December 2024 & it made it to my top reads of 2024. Am currently reading THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN & I miss James' perspective so much 😂.
That's awesome, love when a book does that. I can imagine that the original classic text would be much less exciting and interesting to read.
I want to read The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion, but I do not wish to purchase them. Haha. If you get a Kindle Unlimited subscription, I believe they are included at no additional cost. I prefer to read hard copies though, so I've requested the first book through my library. We'll see if they purchase it or not.
Foster is a quick read. As with Small Things Like These, there is more unsaid than said.
I'm with you! I'm going to try and request my library get the Emma M Lion books.
Ugh. My library declined my request. It was pending for a long time so I was hopeful. I wonder why libraries aren’t getting them in?
I was bored with huckleberry Finn when I read it in high school which is why James wasn’t something I was interested in. But I keep hearing about it so… maybe
I feel the same way! But clearly it's an incredible read because *everybody* is loving it. I have to know now.
I loved Foster much more than Small Things.
Hope I do as well because Small Things was just okay for me.
@ same.
Read Foster. Want to read, James.
