CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Murtaugh (Danny Glover) prepare to deal with a toilet bomb.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Lethal Weapon 2 re-teams Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as, respectively, "loose cannon" L.A. detective Martin Riggs and his partner, the cautious family man Roger Murtaugh. The villain this time is a South African diplomat (Joss Ackland) who doubles as a drug dealer. Though Riggs knows what's going on thanks to characterless character witness Joe Pesci, he can't touch the villain because of "diplomatic immunity." After perils too numerous to mention, Riggs and Murtaugh shoot it out with the heavies on the deck of a South African cargo ship. Lethal Weapon 2, of course, contains as one of its comic high-points a now famous suspense scene: Mel Gibson agonizingly attempting to extricate a terrified Danny Glover from a booby-trapped toilet seat. Director Richard Donner, Gibson, Glover, and Joe Pesci would be reunited three years later for Lethal Weapon 3 and in 1998 for Lethal Weapon 4.

This scene is exactly why I can't take the new tv series seriously. The chemistry between Mel and Danny is the heart of the films and it can't be replicated.
@Farzaan Ali Well there was one. It was okayish but they cancelled it back in February after 3 seasons.
Guys like u don't die on toilets- Riggs
yep
Eric Myers thsts Riggt.
Thankfully Fox pulled the plug on the series last year.
Riggs and Murtaugh are the definition of bromance, period.
Best bro moment period
JD and Turk from Scrubs would like to have a word... lol
Rocky Balboa and Apollo Creed might disagree.
They stand in the same row with JD and Turk/Chandler and Joey
Han and Chewbacca
Their chemistry is undeniable. Such a great duo. They are the heart of the franchise and the buddy cop genre...
And very close friends IRL, even as Gibson suffered from depression and alcoholism.
RIP Richard Donner for cultivating the wicked chemistry between Riggs murtaugh from the very beginning. That's a skill learned a decade earlier from working with Christopher and Margot.
Definitely. We watched this all the time when I was growing up.
Agreed 💯
Such a good moment, when they look at each other and don't say a word but understand what each other want to say. That's brotherhood.

I love how Leo's going crazy trying to get to them after the explosion. That moment was the exact moment you knew Leo was officially apart of the Riggs and Murtaugh family.
He's family

Leo is a great family member

Ok ok ok…you cops are not too bright, heh?
The look on Rigg's face when the bomb squad guy tells him to leave. Such great acting by Gibson.
Great to know he isn't alone on that.
That was his bro! He wasn’t leaving him behind
You could tell right there he’d rather die with Murtaugh than live without him.
Watch some old stuff that Steve McQueen did...very similar to Mel...Chance or Imitation?

I loved their friendship in the movies
Mel and Danny in real life are friends. Danny said many good things about Mel. The acting in this scene is off the charts, the way they care for each other and the trust.
Friendship til the end. So sorry we never saw these guys together again nowadays. We really miss you gentlemen.
Talk of another one but nothing concrete as of yet....
There was the bank robbery in Maverick!!!
They were the definition of true friendship.
Your wish has been granted, LW5 is in the works with original cast, writers, and director.
@Mad Media so what you're saying is that there's going to be a remake of Lethal Weapon.
Thats one tough toilet. There is a bomb underneath it and still makes it out the window and onto a car intact. My toilet is made of porcelain.
old cast iron toilet. It'll withstand a good blast.
Like the Glocks in Die Hard 2.
Imagine something like this toilet falling on your head
Its the Ferguson from Al Bundy

No matter what...Trish's car always gets fucked up, lol.
lol insurance always comes through! ;)
Trish car in this movie is kind of a running gag, and Murtaugh trying to take care of it and always gets fucked up is just comedy gold!
on the beginning of the movie
"Riggs there s no room, there s no room!"
.....
"you were right Rog there were definitely no room"
(later on the pursuit near the diplomatic house Rog slam Trish car on other car)
(later on Leo opens the door which is taken away by a moving car, only remains one piece of the door)

Yeah, Trish's car really was a hilarious gag lol
Either the car or the damn house lol
Martin Riggs true friend, best friend no matter what.. :D
And you can't forget about Leo! When the bomb went off he wanted to run in and see what happened, if they were alright. A goofball and pain in their ass at times but he has a good heart.
@@MindNumbingInc Yeah, he speaks too much (even James Carter would be pissed of) but he cares about his friends.
Very rare in this world
Danny Glover at 2:57 That look says it all. No dialogue needed. Master actor.
And Riggs stare as answer to the order of getting out. No discussion, no words, no protests, just a stare. He totally sold that shot.
And Riggs says "I know", it warms my heart😭😭😭
A perfect masterwork of acting.
Murtaugh needing desperately to say what he HAS to say to Riggs, someone he fought with, ate with, bled with, but the words can't come because it would take him DAYS to say it all.
Then Riggs looks into his pleading face, and he knows. He reads it in his face. "...I know."
"I MEAN it," Murtaugh says, and you know he means everything and he has seldom felt so strongly as he does now.
Riggs sets himself, and even he can't keep the sudden emotion out of his voice as he prepares to save the man who gives the final damn whether Riggs lives or dies.
Almost nothing is said.
And EVERYTHING is said.
I'm not crying you're crying 😭
danny glover did actor s studio?
This shows true friendship between these two, especially when Riggs puts his life on the line. Danny and Mel, are the best of friends that can't be broken.
This is really the moment that happens I feel.. Until now Riggs have been a "liability", but here he's there for him when noone else is and willing to risk his life to save the "old man"..
The stove joke is hilarious, cracks me up every time.
😂💯😂💯😂💯
i couldnt make it out, my hearing is going
@@TheHalusis "Why didn't they plant the bomb in Trish's stove?"
"Think of all the needless suffering they could've ended right there."
It's a running gag of the series that Murtaugh's wife's (Trish) cooking is terrible.
@@wakipaki7381 appreciate that, nope i wouldnt have even understood if i heard him say that. need to rewatch these. ThxF
This is still the best scene in any of the 4 films, and not because of the explosion. That look they give each other before Roger jumps off the toilet is everything.
For me it's a toss up between this and Murtaugh yelling "will me, Riggs!" at the end of LW4
This scene is amazing. Truly. Certainly one of the best in all the movies, no question about that.
But the best scene of the series is in the first movie. Riggs alone on Christmas, a picture of his wife, and a gun.
Sorry that acting was just too ridiculous and stomps over anything else the rest of the movies delivered, including this one, as great as it is.
Stephen King once wrote, "Perfect eloquence is almost always mute." No spoken words, but a heartfelt communication in those few seconds. Glover and Gibson nailed that devotion of those characters to each other in that scene.
I feel like the Lethal Weapon movies are just what Mel Gibson and Danny Glover's normal lives would look like if they were cops.
"guys like you don't die on toilets" is still my all-time favorite line in any movie.
"Why couldn't they plant the bomb in trish's stove?"
"Yeah, just think of all the needless suffering that could've ended there."
That's friendship, through and through.
"...I'm gonna die on the toilet, ain't I?"
"Guys like you don't die on the toilet."
I laugh with them everytime..lol.
This is a great scene to watch while on the toilet.
I literally laughed out loud. Pretty funny sir.
Way funny!!!
Just as long as no bomb is under the toilet. Hey, even Homer Simpson checks every time.
I'm actually on a toilet right now.
It’s funny because I’m
on the toilet watching this.
This scene is actually very accurate in the sense that they can use liquid nitrogen to freeze a bomb and delay its detonation. This was proven on Mythbusters.
yeah, it's been used in many shows/movies since
They proved on Mythbusters that it worked so well, they could have got up and crawled backwards on the floor out of the house.
It depends on the detonator. An rare electric bridgewire detonator would've probably killed them both regardless of liquid nitrogen. They should try to get their hands on some liquid helium btw.. much colder.
Gandalf the white Actually, I think you're right, on that one. With the bomb (I think it may have been C4, or Semtex) being behind the toilet and up against where it's bolted to the floor, the blast should've destroyed the porcelain, rather than sending the toilet flying.
Yes but in real life you get 15 min not 2 seconds according to Mythbusters
"hey Riggs!..."
"Yeah?"
"Don't use the normal frequency!"
"ok"
"hey Riggs?"
"yeah"
"let's go quiet on this ah?"
"sure count on me!"
(next shot we see the bomb squad, police cars, firemen, ambulance and all the sirens ROFL)
I know, I was laughing at the very next shot XD
My side was hurting from laughing so much I thought I got hit with the bomb.
Fabrice Ascenso lol. Best part of that all scene
@James Jenkins when he makes him kick the water jug in part 3
@@patrickoliver9133 then there's the chicken thing at the beginning of part 4

I really like how this film has the whole police force as an unit and family
Pedro Silva that's the way real cops are. The brothers in blue. It's always nice to see cops on screen be human, have lives, have a sense of camaraderie and even love for each other and their jobs. Cops are human too and not many tv shows or movies know how to show that
@@kendallrivers1119 untill they start beating innocent people

The chemistry between Danny Glover and Mel Gibson is simply electric. The best duo ever in buddy cop film genre.
2:57
I love this part... telling Riggs that if we die I wanted you to know that you're my brother...
Murtagh; Riggs......
Riggs says; I know, I know..
Murtagh; I mean it man..
Riggs; your not gonna fucken die on a toilet..
Pretty sure it was more along the lines of take care of my family
I think he was simply trying to say “I love you man”
It's always Rogers house
And the only time it didn't get raided was when the Murtaughs tried to sell it in part 3. LOL

Lethal weapon toilet bomb
Anytime...
Murtaugh is older, slower but he's still got skills, wits and solid nerves. He's the best kind of guy to keep Riggs in line (enough, anyways). Riggs is crazy, a loose freaking cannon and weird. But he's tough, ballsy and lethal. He's also one loyal friend to the few he considers a friend and he never forgot how Murtaugh was there for him during the toughest scenes. The humor of these exact opposites in personalities and stylish action is matched only by the actual emotion and friendship they can portray without being boring, corny or a cliche of boring buddy cop films. Often imitated never duplicated. This scene is one of many that kinda sums all that up.
These two spoke in soulful guitar riffs. They defined Bromance.
I really like that Riggs assures Roger that "you're got gonna die", it shows how much they have grown as friends, and despite Riggs' somewhat suicidal tendencies, the fact that he tries to reassure Roger, shows how caring he has become, and even wants him to go back to his family in one piece. And especially when Roger is willing to trust Riggs with his own life this time. This is why I strongly believe that _Lethal Weapon_ is genuinely the very-best Buddy Cop action film series out there. You don't see this type of "bromance"/friendship in action movies anymore.
You don't even see it in any type of movie or tv show for that matter. The Riggs\Murtaugh dynamic is very unique and unbeatable. The only one close to it is Marcus Burnett and Mike Lowery from the Bad Boys movies.
This scene and the fight on Murtaugh's boat in 3 are so good. Best friendship in a movie ever.
That house has been through hell every since Riggs entered Roger's life
Yeah lol. Especially Trish's car😂😂
A car through the living room, a dog terrorizing a cat, an explosion causing a toilet to fly out and a Chinese triad setting the whole thing on fire. And that’s just what was on screen.
Ultimate bromance 😢
+Sean Taylor Starsky and Hutch were before this.
Sean Taylor
Hahaha Right.?.!.
always found this scene to be touching because you can see the love, respect and admiration that Riggs had for Murtaugh and vice versa....I don't think there has ever been a better chemistry between actors than Mel and Danny...
At the end - “Geez, man get offa me, I don’t want anyone to see us like this...” LMAO 🤣
Let's just take a moment to appreciate that blues guitar from Mr. Eric Clapton. Just a few lonely notes is all he needs to express the gravity of their friendship and facing possible death *together.*
Then we found out he’s an anti-vax loon. 👎
Roger and Riggs bromance is so genuine, I love them so much. Best cop film in years, well of course since Marty and Rust in True Detective.
Yeah, that "moment" brought tears to my eyes. A beautiful moment between two friends!!
how can they make this scene serious, i mean after all, it's a man sitting on a toilet bowl attached to a bomb. that's the magic of acting.
Magic of Richard Donner. The guy knew the right mix of serious and comic relief.
This will sound kind of weird but back in the day EVERYTHING was taken seriously. Comedy was a big deal, movies were a big deal, and life in general was a big deal. Now everything is a cheap joke.
El Inextricable I agreed with you up till life was a big deal lol life has always been a big deal and if anything it became MORE of a big deal in a post 9/11 world.
@@ElInextricable true
This scene was both hilarious 🤣 and emotional 😭
I actually had to look under my toilet while watching this on my toilet.
Wouldn't it be something if you found a bomb under your toilet too?
oh
This comment section is finally what I’ve been after.
The chemistry between those two guys is really the bread and butter of the whole series.
2:58 this hits all the guys in the feels. Bromance right there.
Haha, loved these movies, my dad was a cop, I swear he and Murtaugh could switch places and I wouldnt tell the difference, they had the same exact personality.

more importantly what kind of toilet survives C4!?
ya lmao!!!!! how did it stay in 1 piece is what I wanan know, must be titanium lmao!
that was cartoon like, all the toilet room blown up and the only survivor is the toilet itself :)
My guess is for comedic effect, you saw a lot of stuff like that in the 80's
"I mean it man." what a great scene
eish yah
The strum of the guitar always drives the point home
This movie invented "on 3 or after 3"? That would be so great if the only funny thing in Pitch Perfect was a rip off.
It's used quite well in a military action series called Strike Back. But it's used sparsely and very well in comedic fashion.
A manly tear was shed, women will never understand the beauty of this scene.
I understand it just fine.
Riggs seems all confident, but the part where he gives his piece to the Bomb Squad sergeant - that says it all. He knows he's probably about to buy the farm, and he wants his beloved Beretta to have a loving home afterwards.
@2:54 When that guitar string plucked, the director really hit the very heart of men watching this film, by expressing a very common emotion that most men don't; but, doing it in such a clever way of still staying within the realm of man-code.
And what was the dead give away, you may asked? It was when Murtaugh called Riggs, Martin.
Perfection is so aweing that this scene almost doesn't seem real.
80's and 90's films can never be topped. What a movie!!
Summed up perfectly 👌
Chef's Kiss, my man.
Perfectly said my man
As a kid this scene stuck with me on what true friendship was

The most unrealistic part is them (and everyone else) not wearing ear protection and being able to talk to eachother in normal voice afterwards.
Also that the toilet fell on the police car and didn't get vaporized.
enilenis. hey. thats because its HOLLYWOOD!!! A movie. Its ENTERTAINMENT!! for our viewing pleasure; NOT 2 b 'dissected like a biological experiment. 2 each their own tho. Glad u noticed that.
I miss these Lethal Weapon Movies!! Mel amd Danny are just epic.
As much as we love Chris Tucker & Jackie Chan, Danny Glover and Mel Gibson set the benchmark for chemistry
One of the rare sequels that was better than the original.
I love Riggs’ Love, Friendship, Risk his own life for his police partner Murtaugh when the Supervisor of the Bomb Squad ask him to leave and he actually stood his ground and helped out his friend from dying.
Riggs staying with his partner, even if it means getting blown up by a toilet........RESPECT.

“Get off me man, I don’t want anyone too see us like this”. 😂🤣 2021
A perfect example of the chemistry and friend ship between the actors and their characters.
can't find friends like that no more.
Yea friends like that are rare anymore people always jist care about themselves now.
As we grow as humans , our circle should become smaller. Number one is always yourself. Never forget.
You`re just not looking in the right places then.
No bleeping way the toilet would have been intact.
Did any1 ever noticed at 0:46 that murtaugh wasnt wearing a vest??? And then a second later the vest just appears bac on him!! Damn they never rewind and triple check the scenes
Joe Pesci freaking out is the best part.
One of my favorite parts of this movie is the slow destruction of Trish’s station wagon it’s just a perfect running gag for a movie like this.
Time for another Riggs and Murtaugh episode, wouldn't you say?
Lethal weapon is a classic that will never get old!
One of the weirdest and also clever scene of an action movie in BROMANCE history!
Murtaugh: Why couldn't they have put the bomb in Trish's stove?
Riggs: Yeah, think of all the needless suffering that could've been prevented.
Classic buddy-buddy cop duo.
Riggs face when he's staying put says it all, you got friends like these you're a king!
Becker (Bomb Squad Leader) is still a badass all these years later , especially when he stood up to Loki in the Avengers.
Wow, i had to look that up.
Sorta sad so few do stand up.
One of the best film franchise out there. Gibson, Glover and Joe Pesci in their prime. True masterpiece of cinema. Also the writing and directing is top class. Love the saxophone bits lol

I don’t think there’s a director or actor today who could have a scene where a character is stuck on a toilet and make it funny, tense and heartwarming all at once. They really don’t make movies like they used to.
Mythbusters brought me here
Me too.
+bugattti1 They could have even just enjoyed a coffee as Murtaugh always wanted ;)
i just love the characters chemistry and the bond between these 2 guys. Through the good and the bad situation, you know they got each other's backs...
As Mel Gibson said earlier of the year: "I like to tell stories, when nobody talks."
That point is the peak of this great scene.

You can hear Mel Gibson's fair dinkum Australian accent coming through on his early Hollywood movies
Especially in the first Lethal Weapon. "Have a noice day".
"Hey Rog..." "Yeah?" "Grab THe CAT!"
Was touching to see Leo concerned for his two best friends and wanted to rush inside after the explosion. Leo obviously cares for his 2 buddies 🤗
I can only imagine what it had to be like to be the claims adjuster for Roger Murtaugh's house insurance company when he got both the phone call & the corresponding story to follow along with it.
