Walking around inside Barton hall right now, since I can't post a pic here I will try to paint it...crisp, clear beautiful fall day, leaves in full color, this song playing, looking at where Jerry and the boys (and girl) were standing when they played this... goosebumps and fighting off some sort of allergy 😂.

Julie catch a rabbit by his hair
Come back steppin' like to walk on air
Get back home where you belong
And don't you run off no more
Don't hang your head, let the two time roll
Grass shack nailed to a pine wood floor
Ask the time baby I don't know
Come back later, gonna let it show
I say row Jimmy row, gonna get there, I don't know
Seems a common way to go, get out and row, row, row, row, row
Here's a half dollar if you dare
Double twist when you hit the air
    Look at Julie down below
    The levee doin' the do-pas-o
I say row Jimmy row, gonna get there, I don't know
Seems a common way to go, get out and row, row, row, row, row
Broken heart don't feel so bad
You ain't got half of what you thought you had
Rock you baby to and fro
Not too fast and not too slow
I say row Jimmy row, gonna get there, I don't know,
Seems a common way to go, get out and row, row, row, row, row.
That's the way it's been in town,
Ever since they tore the jukebox down
Two bit piece don't buy no more
Not so much as it done before
I say row Jimmy row, gonna get there I don't know
Seems a common way to go, get out and row, row, row, row, row

What i wouldn't give to be in a hallway one more time in a slow motion amorphous communal dance of swirls and twirls and reaching the sky after swimming in the soil and seeing that fucking smile on every face and the knowing looks in each others' eyes.

Glenn Hall That's a nice. It was terribly lacking at the Dead and Co show i went to, despite being a great show. It was a first show for a couple friends, they loved it, but they don't know what they didn't get to love. Maybe a summer tour will bring some of that feeling back.

    • @shannoncohen8741
      @shannoncohen8741 7 лет назад +3

you said what ive been thinking lately. "what i wouldn't give...one more time." Ive been to my share of shows when Jer was in his physical body and i went to Fare Thee Well (took my 17 year old son). It was magical actually. I was in a bad place in my head and the boys got me out of that funk i had been in for years. I went to Alpine last summer for Dead and Co and it was really fun. Not the same of course, but I love Bobby so much. Always have. Summer tour is going to be so much fun. I cant wait to dance to my favorite band with my favorite people! love to all you kind brothers and sisters out there!

From the first time I heard this version of row jumbo, I knew it was going to be one of my favorite versions. I still can't get enough.
Thats what the dead will do to you. Since 1978 the majority of the music I listen to is the good old Grateful Dead. I love the way things are strumming along and before you know it they are in a jam that smokes. All you can do is smile.

This is probably the most beautiful version I have ever heard of Row Jimmy Row. Garcia is at his best vocal magic, pulling those notes from deep inside with a tenderness that can lullaby any soul....Phil is giving a masterclass on his own and the guitar of Garcia is what myths are made of......Thanks Jerry, we truly miss you even the ones that, like me, never saw you playing live.

+Alan Brain So poetic, wow, you caught that incredibly unique something the Dead had and never saw them. I saw them first in '68 in Phila, twice with no more than 400 people at freebies they'd show up at, many times Fillmore East, some West. The bond between them, the "trip" you took on their "bus", and the audience . . . never seen anything else like it.

As about as close as you can get to the creation of an American folk tradition from pure scratch. Of course they were steeped deeply in Appalachian folk music. Workingman's Dead is another example of pure myth creation. Pure Americana at its best that along with the Doors is unparalleled.

As great as he was Jerry is still wildy underrated as a musician. His electric guitar is what everyone remembers but when you factor in his ability to totally nail the slide guitar, steel guitar, acoustic, and when he was really playing the banjo he was one of the top banjo players in the world. His contribution to music and inspiration he has had on people can not be understated. He was a true pioneer and help move music along. There is no one out there today that carry that title of pioneer, it's all been done. There are a lot of imitators that can play and sound similar but the creativity and the IT factor is not there. There has never been anyone that has gone for it as much as Jerry did. Sometimes it wasn't quite there but when it was it was not just good but soul changing and that is his gift to those that are capable of getting the Dead experience

except that was pedal steel, an entirely different instrument, but yea its amazing he was skilled in so many different techniques, styles and instruments. He's certainly no derek trucks or duane allman on slide, but in my opinion his slide solos on row jimmy are as good as any slide guitar I've ever heard

For some reason when I heard this at deer creek 2022 I cried like a baby...John sang it well not like Jerry of course.❤ My first one was Niagara Falls 84, I Was still learning and I didn't recognize it at the show.
