Melvin! Melvin! MELVIN !!!!! SAVED MY LIFE ! Was going crazy trying to open my side doors on my 97 E259 van. You are the ONLY one with the good sense god gave us to show HOW TO UNLATCH THE DOOR. Thankyou Melvin. (your newest follower)
Bought a used e250 with the side doors unable to open because of the missing cables. This was the only video that I could find to show how to open the door the manual way. Thanks. You are a lifesaver.
There is a much easier way! My 2003 e150 rear passenger side door would not open with outside or inside handles. 1) remove from inside, the upper trim panel on the door, Philips head screws are all holding it on. 2) locate a small rectangular opening(about 1/4” x 1” long) near the lock mechanism. 3) use a regular flat head screw driver inserted in the hole to move the latch lever. If you look closely in the hole you can make out the mechanism and the lever. I’m thinking that all other doors may have a similar access from behind associated upper trim panel. Melvin, great video, thank you for helping so many of us!
The k you so much Melvin. Van door just got stuck... all the cables have failed and we have the aluminum sleeves for the repair but this is the first time she’s gotten completely stuck... very much appreciated, you’re a life saver.
Thanks man, I could have never gotten my door open without your video. I had watched for days other guys trying to hold camera, flashlight, shaking around inside the door where you didn't have a clue what you were looking at.
Dude! Thank you. Same thing happened to my e350 on the back doors and the side doors. I was able to fix the side doors easily, but the back doors were driving me crazy
Thank you thank you... I've been trying to get the back door open for 3 weeks until I found your video. thieves tried to break into the van and busted up the license plate holder area and tore up the handle. couldn't get my hand in there, couldn't see well enough... after watching this video I got a long screwdriver and had the door open in seconds... thank you. G. Ferris
Thank you so much. And you’re right, this is the only video that explains how to remove the actual latch. All the other vids just show how to remove the outer door handle on the license plate bezel. Again, thank you!
That’s exactly what’s wrong with my door on my 93 E-150 what an aggravation 😩 And you’re right I searched about seven different videos yours was the best
Easier way to open the door than prying that latch you can’t get to. Once you remove the license plate holder and the speaker, if you reach in And find the short cable at the top of the latch, pull on it and the door will open. This will have to be done from the inside or thru the license plate holder from the outside. Thanks for posting this, it helped me a lot in figuring out how the latch works.
Hey bud, thank you man, you saved me, i have a rat pack set and my cable failed when i was wrapping up a job, going to the next, this helped me to replace the cables, $36 at oriley auto parts. thanks bro!!!
THANK YOU! I had gotten it open from the inside and COULD open with the cable but it shut on me and and even with a light I couldn't tell WHICH way to pry. Now I can get he f'er open and the latch out. All I need. Subscribed!
TY! Every door on my dog grooming van has had this problem. I took to Ford to open the back doors & $700 later I drove home and got serious abt my doing my side doors myself! Damn Ford dealer ship would not tell me a stinking thing either. I really appreciate u, video helped so much! I have parts , just need video w great instructions.
Thank you! Now I know how to open it! I couldn't figure it out! I was able to move it many times with my hand but it wouldn't open. I tried and tried. Then I tried actuating the rod coming from the door lock and tried again and it worked! It must have been locked! LOL.... Thank you so much for showing this!
Your effort was great to post this video BUT its a major problem for us with this issue, your picture to narrow, presentation short/vague like you were giving a refresher course to experienced repairmen. Congrats to the folks who understood. Please make a more indepth simple to follow video. Thanks
You can also pop the door open by unlocking the door and sticking a flat head through that little rectangle opening closest to the lock, push the little metal thing he said to push in the video and bam its open! Credit to him cause I had no clue how to open it.
This is literally the only thing I was looking to find. My work van door got stuck again. I forgot how i did it last time, and i knew there was a way with the rectangle but couldn't remember. Thanks for your comment!
Hey Melvin, Thanks for the video. FYI the clip ends work for the F series as well. There is two different sizes required, had to do this on my f-250. I'm not sure if its the same on the E series yet, that is why I am checking videos. Working on the church e-350. You might want to look at the top and bottom of connection between actuator and latches, it could be different sizes. I just wanted to let you know why you got a pack with 2 different sizes. Thanks again, aloha!
Thanks or the vid...worked great. How did you remove the door latch assy without drilling the rivet below the 3 torx bolts? I cannot remove mine. Thank you!
Round barrel ends go into round holes on the door latch mechanism. Use vice grip to snap them into the spot. One jaw behind the zinc plated half moon shape on latch, other on the barrel on opposing side (outer). It will snap into place. The weird one with flats goes to side door upper latch (or left side rear door upper latch) where there is no access to slide barrel into the notch sideways. On that one, you must twist the odd barrel with the flat side. I made some hard to view videos of all these steps. See if I can post them. You want to work on the upper latch off the door. Too hard to hold things and do the maneuver.
Went into the van late at night to grab something out of it in my driveway, i have a locking partition that was installed so if anyone broke into the front they couldnt get into the back which is windowless. Side doors werent working on the van so previous owner installed a padlock on em so those dont open or close very often! Anyways i get in through the back and the wind pushes the door closed at the back while im in there, i dont think too much about it, im done in the van and try to come out and the back doors wont open!! Of course i have no phone on me! After trying a few things i ended up sleeping in the van with no way out! Luckily next day mail man called fire dept and got me out
For the handle on the left side rear door, I discovered my cable housing had come loose - the explanation for why the door wouldn't open. For now, I'm ensuring the housing is in place manually enough where I just pull the cable and its ball out to open it. Next step: affixing the housing by the handle back in place somehow.
I'm having trouble when I put everything back together. Door locks won't go up or down as normal. Seems they getting harder. Key hole with key in it won't turn normal eaither
I'm sure you figured this out by now, the long cable clips into the top connection port and loops 180 degrees down to the outside bottom handle. the short cable travels horizontally from inside door handle to the lock mechanism.
if ford put the bolts on the latch on the other door the opposite way they could be taken out from the inside of the door. but they come from between the two doors so they have to be drilled out...
Thank you for this video. You explained this better than anyone on RUclips.
Thank you, I have a 1999 E250 cargo and I got the door open thanks to you. It got me in the general direction and it worked. Now to fix the cables!
Melvin!

Yes Sir!
You are a life saver with this video. I’ve been trying to figure out how to open our back door forever. Thank you very much for sharing this.

Yay you! No one else slowed down enough to show the lever that actually opens the latch. 👍

Good video thanks, it's the same regardless of 150, 250, or 450, it's the same body.
Omg I think this may be my issue I will check at first light. I’ve been going nuts!!
Very helpful. Would love to see a whole start to finish from you. Buying a used van and all of the doors barely open.
Awesome. Thank you.

Thanks or the vid...worked great. How did you remove the door latch assy without drilling the rivet below the 3 torx bolts? I cannot remove mine. Thank you!
Thanks, now i have an idea how to open mine.
Thank you man!
Mine is the 2005 e250 I bought new.
She is rusting away from Philly winters. Now locks are breaking ! I guess I'll buy the whole lock assembly !?#

Thanx man...
There should be diagrams of this problem in books would help a lot 4 every one! (Showing step by step.)
easy vans to break into. they got mine last night. took all my a/c gear. pump gauges reclaim.
omg dude look at u😁😁😁bravo!!! B.E.S.T

Order the door handle and drill out the rivets and get some 5/16 nuts and bolts and you can use those in the new Door Handle.
Okay great video i still have the same problem when i push up on the tabs the door never opens tried numerous of times no success?
Make you you use a small flap head, make sure the door is unlocked. Push and pull the latch... I hope this work for you. Thanks for checking
Should have ordered the ones from Klamm Auto.....They have the correct ends w/explicit instructions for install.
I'm having trouble when I put everything back together. Door locks won't go up or down as normal. Seems they getting harder. Key hole with key in it won't turn normal eaither
You have the lock handle turned the wrong way. You will have take it down again
Good video but i am trying to find where the long cable goes in the mechanism. The bottom peice i know but i cant figure out the top the longer cable
I'm sure you figured this out by now, the long cable clips into the top connection port and loops 180 degrees down to the outside bottom handle. the short cable travels horizontally from inside door handle to the lock mechanism.
Every ford van I have ever owned the door latch assembley has failed, obvious faulty design
His cables were metal ends Ford are plastic mounts. They broke on mine . Time to replace all new lock & cables from Amazon China, sucks.
I got a 350 same problem I am have got the part for 10 all 4 from NAPPA parts
E250 me too! ugh!
shit mine is completely jammed so i will have to drill out the bolts on the other door or bust it open with a hammer some shit.....
if ford put the bolts on the latch on the other door the opposite way they could be taken out from the inside of the door. but they come from between the two doors so they have to be drilled out...
Show what you did to get that out. Not talk about it. It would be a real RUclips video instead of a podcast
