What's so aggravating is that the engineer who designed this latch system most likely suggested metal cable seats, but some MBA dictated the use of plastic.

Some mistakes that I learned when doing mine but thanks for making a video showing what the problem was. You don't have to pop out the connectors on the end that connect to the release mechanism. There is a little yellow clip that flips open allowing you to pop out the cable and threaded end which is also handy to know when you need to re-adjust them.
You also don't have to remove the inner door handle. However overall the video was very helpful, and I got my doors fixed for about an hour and $16 to do both doors.

The “hex” bolts on the top and bottom latches were hefty T-25 Torx screws on my 2001. And the liner “paper” that I peeled off was a form of vinyl plastic. It was quite tough and didn’t threaten to disintegrate. So, I’m happy to have a special truck that made the work easier for me. (No stripped hex heads).
Thanks for the video, guys. It was a big help.
One thing about the metal replacement parts, I echo an earlier comment about opening up the center of the slot so the cable will have more clearance to move. You can drill it if you’re good with a drill press, or you can use a small round file. I actually drilled, then cleaned up with the file.

Just want to say thanks for a great video that helped me buy the right tools and parts to get my broken door fixed in a good amount of time. The learning curve always takes a lot of time and you saved me so much time. If we were closer I would buy you an adult beverage of your choice. All the info contained in this is all you need to get this done except one small item. The plastic on the cable housing must be removed for the metal tips to work properly. Once I figured that out it was on! Even with a suspect camera man this is a top notch video, thanks again.

Very helpful video. Your step by step pics and explanation were great. The only thing I ran into is that, if you do not push the new metal parts down over the sheath of the cable, they will not fit when you reinstall them. It didn’t appear that you had that trouble, but I did in my case.

Good video. Thanks for the tip on removing stripped out torx screws. I was forced to use both the angle grinder to cut a slot as well as the wrench attached to the screwdriver to remove a screw. Replaced 3 screws with hex bolts M6-1.0 x 12mm ($4 at Advanced Auto Parts). Also, agree that you have to bottom out the cable covering inside the metal cable seat. Finally, adjust the grooved cable end forward or aft in the plastic clip as necessary to achieve proper cable length for operating door latch. (It can be a fine adjustment to achieve proper operation.)

When my cables on my 2000 f150 broke 10 or more years ago the replacement cables were too expensive, I tried homemade fixes and nothing worked, so I abandoned drivers side but had two awkward strings to pull to open the passenger side to load tools. Never putting lower panel back on. The other day doing some repairs with bondo I thought I might try it, luckily I watched your video first and order them from Amazon. Three days later I have working doors. I never understood people crying with joy till today. Thank you soooooo much for your video.

I agree with Sam Hill. Something’s broke, I go immediately go straight here to see magic performed & learn to fix whatever it may be, illuminating the frustration (and the fear) of royally £¥#*ing up by diving in with no idea what to do.
I’ll be tackling this job in a couple weeks (in the middle of pain in the ass stuff: moving, looking for right home, etc) and will have my pad right there with me with your great instructions along with some dynamite tips I got from a couple other catalogs I’ve come across.
A million thanks for all you folks for sharing what you love to do. You folks have hiked my interest in so many DIY, etc things I’ve never had in my 50 years.
    Peace, YouTubbers!

My driver-side door had a connector break a few years ago, and I only replaced the broken terminator... a mistake... had to open it up later and finish the job. Thanks for the vid! Both of my doors locked up within a week of each other and used only this video as reference and was able to complete it all by myself. I saw in a comment that you didn't need to take out the handle and was able to do both sides without removing it although I think it should make it easier to repeg the one placement clip on the top piece much easier if you want to fully complete the job. Gotta really squeeze and cramp your hand to get in there otherwise. Anyway, helped me fix my problem. Thank you.

Thanks for this video, your explanation was better than most. I would recommend just using a razor blade for the plastic ends. I replaced my two doors (all 4 locks - 03' F150 XLT) in like an hour and change. Thanks!

I used tile nips to gently squeeze the old plastic ends and they easily broke right off.
