    Did this myself and have some tips: A pack of the Dorman ends from the local auto parts store was $12.00 and will do one door. Don’t cut the old end with a knife. It’s dry rotted. Just use a needle nose pliers. It it break apart into pieces easy. When you insert the new wire it will seem like it’s not going through. Just push the rubber line
    up inside and it will go in easy.

    Thanks so much for the great video. Earlier this year, I bought a new latch/cable combination for the left rear lower which cost me about $35 on Amazon, but that didn't exist for the left side door lower latch, except if I wanted to replace the handle, too. I've been hearing mixed things about these so I thought I would give it a shot. It really worked out great. I found a package of 16 on Amazon for $15. I got it because comes with 4 of the cam style that you showed on this one. Also I used your measurement of 1-in when stripping back the old cable, and that was a spot on measurement. Thank you.

      Why did you have to strip the cable back? Won't that affect your pull distance? OR, maybe you just peeled back the outer layer?

      Mat Bishop If the cable is gone, you have another issue or difficult problem. This only works if the cable is present.

I didn't see this video until now :-( And thanks for your help Masterfo7 sadio / Great video by the way.. looks like i will have to get another one of those repair kits.. Have a great day.

    My 2004 E350 this top latch cable for reason, the cable that is under the plastic covering that you cut off, is right up to the latch, almost, so cant figure out how to get the new end on the cable?....and i have done about all other latches on this van, and am pro 46 yr mechanic.....now looking to actually cut back the spiral cable sheathing around the very inside cable......anyone else have this issues?

    • @adolfosadio6711
      @adolfosadio6711 4 года назад

      There should be some way to remove the top latch.
      Then you can repair after removing latch. If not then may need to replace latch itself.

      @@adolfosadio6711 Thanks for the reply, yeah finally took the top latch out, but the original cable had way too much spiral wrapped metal around the stranded inner cable, had to cut down the plastic repair part to slide it over, but in finally worked.......half hr job took me about 3 messing with.....and here in Florida today was 137 heat index.......had beach umbrella and fan on me.........this 60 yr old man got it done.......thanks again....

      @@josephklimchock5412 I think I have the same issue. My cable with the new metal housings makes it so the cable balls don’t have enough slack to go in the handle holes. Did you end up cutting back on that metal spiral around the actual cable to get a bit more slack?

  • @heartoftherobot

    These are not suggested. The metal ends don't press down as much as stock and shorten the length of the cable, jamming the lock. In addition, they don't come out of the brackets without force which breaks other parts. I am in now over $100 of broken parts and 4 hours of my time and its still not fixed. Had to purchase a whole new latch--just eBay it (Ford P/N: AC2Z-15431A02-A) for $50 and be done with it. DO NOT DO THIS.

      I replaced many of those cable ends on my 2007 E250 and for some reason, that cable end refuses to work on that upper side door and I don’t understand why. The new cable cable end refuses to stay in the metal part.... looks like I will have to spend the money also and buy the whole new upper latch kit. I’m totally baffled after changing at least 10 of those cable ends without any problems on all the other doors.
