    This is one of the best videos for the right hand rear door, what he didn't tell and he may not have had the issue is what to do when you get all the stuff out of the way and you have both cables laying in the bottom of the door. Harbor Freight makes a 5 or 6 piece pick set, use the crooked offset, go in straight where the inside handle cable connects and unlatch it, pull the bottom cable, tadaaaa door open.

    I've gone through every step up to removing the entire latch assembly. I was hoping there was a trick that would allow me to bypass that step. Now I know. Thanks for the tutorial.

    Great narration to walk us through the process. Thank you very much. i will suggest this, though. Instead of buying the cable sets that come with the same rubber/plastic cable ends that will fail again in a few years of heat, buy a set of 4 or 8 or 16 (!) aluminum cable ends instead. This is such a frequent Ford failure that these are availabl everywhere. I got mine for less than $1 each on Amazon (Dornan part). Replace the cable ends with these and you won't ever have to do it again. I've had my Ford van for for 17 years and sure wish I'd known about these aluminum repair ends when i did this job the first couple of times :-)

    Thank you I'm doing the exact same thing to a 98 Ford sportsman exact same door latches and everything I didn't quite take the last two lashes off this drive me crazy busting my knuckles all up I guess I gotta completely disassemble it all because the door lock cable and that top cable fell out when I was replacing the window And I found one of the sleeves one of the necks is is broke off one of the heads broke off on one of the cables anyway so I gotta get a new cable what a headache of a job especially if you got big hands drive me crazy thank you very much I needed that I can see there are zero short cuts. Everything's gonna be completely disassemble rotate it out and then properly reassembled and that's gonna drive me 😢😢😢nuts

    This is so helpful. My issue is that in the process of getting the door to open initially both cables came loose after the door was open. When we got ready to call it a day the door got shut. So now we’ve got a shut door with no cables attached in there to get it open.

      You can slide your finger in behind the unlock tab thing on the side closest to you to pull the thing with no cable its hard to find but once you found it you can do it

    Only video that really shows everything. It seems like a pain i might get a mechanic to do it. I figured you needed to take out the lock, of course they couldnt make it easy. I tried to take out lock, and stwrted stripping star screws wth.

    • @lifeathand1062
      @lifeathand1062  3 года назад +4

      Yes the star screws are a pain sometimes you have to go the next size up and peck it in with a hammer or cut a slit in it with a dremel so you can use a flat blade screw driver
      Thanks for watching

    Very good vid! Was looking to see if there was a vid on this as I have already fixed the outside handle ( arm that holds the rubber part of the cable was loose, jb weld ) but now it's not working again. Thinking it's the cable but can't see up to the latch. The cable cover does slide so it must not be hooked up top..... Thanks again, very good vid!!

    • @lifeathand1062

      Try cleaning the latch and then putting a good silicone spray on it. I would probably use some break parts cleaner just be sure to wear safety glasses.

    • @lifeathand1062

      @@lifeathand1062 I have repaired two of the doors on my van. I still need to fix the rear doors. I've just been really lazy about getting to it. It's been raining like crazy here in Southern California, which is an oddity, since we've been in an ongoing drought for, oh, I don't know, what, something like over thirty years now. In the last three weeks, we've had more rain than we've had in the last ten years combined. Today, Saturday (1-30-2021) is sunny, but cold outside. I've been spending almost all of my time looking for a job online, so the camper van project has been set aside, at least, for the next few weeks, anyway. Thank you for asking though.
