A very interesting story. It shows the power of prayer and faith that her mother had. Miss Zona knew her mother would be able to help her. A testament of a mother's unending love for her daughter.
A ghost never lies and thank you for telling us this story. This was something Zona didn't want to take to her grave. How many more women did she protect from that man.
@thehillbillyfiles Hey there HillbillyFiles! Erasmus Stribbling Trout Shue is the name of Zona's husband. He died at Moundsville Penitentiary and is byried in Whitegate cemetery.
@@thehillbillyfiles I've never understood the trail of blood.... what caused that? At no point has anybody ever said Zona was bleeding from anywhere unless that's where they got the childbirth idea from? (miscarriage? which would also explain why Zona was unwell)
Now I understand the moniker, Greenbrier Ghost. Glad the lawyer listened to her mother's dream, exhumed the body, and was able to have Zona's husband convicted and imprisoned for the remainder of his life.
This story has interested me since i read a book from the library about Zona. Her husband's name was Erasmus Stribbling Trout Shue and he was usually called Trout. This book is old and full of excerpts from letters and diaries from witnesses and people living in the area. I was hoping you guys would cover this story, thanks!
I researched his genealogy, I just didn't think it was needed in the video really lol, All those names add confusion, but yes there's so much to the story, but we don't really dig that deep, we just don't have time to invest in each video that much time and dedication, we always have to move to the next story or we cant afford to do the videos anymore, just the way RUclips works
Heather and Leo, you managed to tell another fantastic story from here in WV!! I simply loved this story of Zona and the war history that Leo covered! Thanks for these stories that you provide to us about history here in these hills! God Bless!
I have family in Greenbriar Co. It is beautiful. A cousin took me up to where the windmills. He used to plow rge roads up there in winter. Also a coal mine still operating.
Heather, Leo, another fantastic story. What a shame this poor girl went through this. Makes one wonder about his previous wives. By refusing to give up Zona and her mother may have saved other women from this same fate. God bless ya'll guys for bringing this story out. Ya'll stay safe on your travels. We all enjoy ya'll and your stories and want ya'll around a while longer !!!
Ive read this in the unsolved murders stories of WV im originally from Fayette county WV and i wasn't to far from the location. Great stories Leo and Heather i truly appreciate all your videos.
This is SUCH a great narration! I appreciate all the facts you added to your video and the actual places. One quick point: Trout died in 1900, you said 8 years after, but it would have only been ~3 . Now I’m going to check out your other videos!
Great story. You had to think Edward did kill Zona if he covered her neck and would not let anybody look at her. She did get her revenge. Thanks, Leo and Heather.
Very sad story. I would like to think that Zona's mother tried to warn her about " him." If so, it is unfortunate that she did not listen. May she rest in peace 🙏 The town is beautiful, the church looks to be in fairly good condition. The graveyard looks very well cared for. I see family or someone still puts flowers 💐 on Zona's grave. Thank you very much Leo and Heather, for telling this story. Have a great day. 😊
Andrew Lewis, Revolutionary War hero, is buried in Salem,VA (Roanoke County). There is a middle school named after him in Salem and a section of Interstate 81 as well.
Leo! I wanted to advise you that a fellow RUclipsr will be coming to your area! His name is Peter Santenello. I'm not sure if you've heard of him or watched his work before, but he's looking for people familiar with the area. I instantly thought of you, as you are very knowledgeable in regards to the trails and coal mining along with so much more! I was hoping maybe you could connect with him and join forces in a future video! Thank you! I hope you get this message.
Leo, it would be awesome to have a cemetery fund to help put death dates on the tombstones, or restore and clean the stones. A distant cousin of mine said we were related to A Hatfield or a McCoy, but I can't remember which family he said. But I haven't found that connection yet. I appreciate all you do to bring up a story about these two lines. I am also connected to the Webb family, the same Webb family that connect to Loretta Lynn
Have you guys visited the battle site in Point Pleasant? Noticed it mentioned on the plaques and wondered if I'd missed the video on it. If you haven't, it's an interesting site and there's a lot of other things to check out in and around the area
Hey there HillbillyFiles! Erasmus Stribbling Trout Shue is the name of Zona's husband. He died at Moundsville Penitentiary and is byried in Whitegate cemetery.
what was name of school house i live in area may be able to help CHECK out old stone house road not far from there old cemtery from civil war and the house was hosptal in civil war
I know her as Elva! Could you leave a way to message or contact I’ve been researching this story as well. Thank you for bringing your bucket list to my own.
I’m not sure what that means but I love your channel. I ran across you guys in my ancestry research. Covering so many of my own ancestors. I’m disabled so you’re videos help me see and learn what I wouldn’t be able to otherwise. For that I am blessed. You both have given me more than records ever could and to see what I could never physically visit. Something about knowing your origins brings peace. From your distant Texas Kin. Thank you. ❤️
I’m sure I’m not the first to think this, but is it possible that Mary was a very clever woman who: 1. became increasingly suspicious of her son in law due to his behavior after Zona’s death and 2. concocted the whole ghost story because she was aware that (being the grieving mother) people would dismiss her suspicions? Either way it’s a great story.
Tho on the East Coast there was the case of my Gr x 6 (?) Grandmother, Rebecca Cornell of Rhode Island, 1600's as told by her ghost to her brother that her oldest son killed her, for which he was convicted & hanged. There's a book on her, "Killed Strangely -the Death of Rebecca Cornell" by Elaine Crane.
This was awesome looking for another I haven’t seen. Do EVP Spirit Talk on cold cases. Please y’all would be great at it. Got some good news on getting better subs comments likes be back soon to share. Need help finding my grandpa who went to Tennessee years back. Rogers from Alabama and Wentzell’s from south lol all I can say I did a dna. Still stuck I trust y’all. Please Give me a email address or something to reach ya
OK but what did Zona's mother say that her daughter's ghost told her about the whole situation concerning her murder? Mary said Zona told her everything... Is there a place to find that info? Thank you, great documentary. ❤

How sad 😢 not only for that young woman but that young boy who had to witness the scene.

God bless him.

Thank you!
That's great history found there, Leo, which as you know as the years progress, that history could disappear and nobody would know that
You guys do an awesome job at research to find out the facts, and telling of the stories related thank you for what you do.
Kind of you, I agree.
As a History buff myself, y’all simply blow my mind with your awesome videos!

I think I remember this story from another channel. Her husband did it.
I may have missed it,what did the doctor say cause of death was after they took her back up. Zona

Interesting story in St James Arkansas wherein man disappears then reappears at the trial for his murder.
Oh My goodness
