True its why i love this channel only discovered them couple of days ago i also do thrm but not so detailed i absolutely love this channel as you always wander what they looked like and how they passed 😊
I’m from Texas and by chance came upon your channel and just got hooked. I just love to hear all the history of the people you talk about, those cemeteries you go out of your way to visit and give us the stories of the people resting there. It’s all so very interesting and informative. Thank you for going through the trouble of doing this and paying respects to all those people that probably don’t have anyone to come visit them anymore
Yes the lady below my comment is correct for the word hysterectomy. Apparently she had or went into kidney failure during her female surgery. Excellent vlog! Love these stories in you uncover in the cementaries! Great work!!!!!!
I like this picture of Heaster. Beautiful lady, but she looked like she had seen some hard times. Beautiful cemetery, looks well cared for. Interesting stories, may they all rest in peace 🙏 Thank you very much Leo and Heather, for another interesting video. Have a great weekend. 😊😊
Thanks for posting this video, Leo and Heather, and for all the hard work you do to identify the deceased and some background on them when it is available 🤩👏🏻‼️🙏❤️
You read in of people dying of diseases years ago that you don't hear of anymore, thanks to more sanitary living conditions and better medicines. We have been blessed in our lifetime. Great video. Thanks.
Oh, I just absolutely loved this video Heather and Leo. This is a beautiful and peaceful cemetery. I love to visit old historic cemeteries. This is ONE of the BEST videos that you have done in WV. My second favorite is finding the grave of Mamie Thurmond. Oh, the video on the Dingess tunnel was also great. However, this particular video takes my heart back to Rt. 60 in WV. You are in one of my very favorite parts of the state which is close to Lewsiburg and White Sulphur Springs. The story of Zone Hester Shue is one of the most mysterious ones in the state. I have a collection of ghost stories of WV and all of them include the sad and tragic death of her. Zone Hester was a very pretty lady. Thank you for this awesome video. Just keep up doing the awesome research that you do Heather.
Subbed. Love how you guys look up the people with such respect, and your presentation is so calm and nice but strong. Also, Diphtheria peaked in 1921. It causes swelling of the mucous membranes, including in your throat, that can obstruct breathing and swallowing. Sometimes a bacterial toxin can enter the bloodstream and cause fatal heart and nerve damage. Maybe they were misdiagnosed.
So very interesting and sad too! I noticed when you were looking for Ester cause of death at 5;22 the person's under said strangulation for cause of death! WOW you sure can-do research and find fascinating stories.
I also love the effort that you go to in letting us know where possible how these people died.most of the time it's just the headstone/plaque,that's it.thanks for making it so interesting, love it❤❤
Great intro!! Another wonderful tribute to those that have gone to the other side. A condition involving abnormally high levels of waste products in the blood. Uremia is a dangerous condition that occurs when the kidneys no longer filter properly. It's likely to occur when a person is in the final stage of chronic kidney disease.
K.G.E. Knights of the Golden Eagle. The Knights of the Golden Eagle was a fraternal organization founded in Baltimore in 1872.[1] History The order's original objectives were to help its members find employment and aid them while unemployed. Membership was open to white males over 18, without physical or mental handicaps, who were able to write and support themselves, were law-abiding, of sound moral character, and of the Christian faith. There was a female auxiliary called the Ladies of the Golden Eagle.[2] In the early years of its existence the group received assistance from other secret societies and fraternal groups. The Odd Fellows helped them become established in Philadelphia in 1875 and the Knights of Pythias helped them become established in Massachusetts in 1880.[3]

Truly a sad one...Zona's story especially both tragic and compelling. Wow, she fell into the hands of a monster. So much disease there, too, I'm glad all of that was resolved. God rest their souls.
Uremia is a clinical condition associated with worsening renal function. It is characterized by fluid, electrolyte, hormonal, and metabolic abnormalities. Uremia most commonly occurs in the setting of chronic and end-stage renal disease but may also occur due to acute kidney injury.
TB disease in the lungs or throat can be infectious. This means that the bacteria can spread to other people. TB in other parts of the body, such as the kidney or spine, is usually not infectious. People with TB disease are most likely to spread it to people they spend time with every day.
My ancestors lived in Greenbrier - the Charltons and the Kyles. They would really old graves as several left in the 1850s or 60s to Oregon. Just wondered if any have seen those names?
Could KGE with the eagle be Knights of the Golden Eagle? It was a fraternal order formed in Baltimore in 1872. That's what I found with just a quick Google search. That was interesting to me because I and my Dad's side of the family are from Baltimore. As always an interesting video. Like Heather said, a lot of TB. I was also wondering why a few of the men had paralysis as their cause of death, that seemed unusual to list as a primary cause of death. I know words sometimes had different meanings years ago. As always enjoy your videos. I'll have to look for the one on Mrs. Shue, I think it strange that her grave marker actually calls her the Greenbriar Ghost, very odd.
Have y'all looked into the cleaning of some of the more stained tombstones. My understanding the chemicals and brushes are very soft so it only takes off the very top layers... 😊
On Evie's death certificate, it looks like they started writing something that began with an R (maybe Renal failure) but wrote Hysterectomy over it. Uremia is kidney failure.
Women undergoing a hysterectomy have an approximate 30% increased relative risk of subsequent kidney cancer. Additional research is needed to elucidate the biological mechanisms underlying this association. Also I was thinking it was something similar to polycystic kidney disease (some treatment for it) but either way, rest in peace to Evie
We do sometimes, sometimes we don't, depends if we remember to bring them or not, usually we are doing many videos same day and just forget, we didn't plan on doing the whole cemetery, just the one grave
So many TB deaths in one place. It is highly infectious since it is such a small place they may have passed it to one another. Paralysis is a weird cause of death & there was more than one. People don't die from paralysis they probably died of something caused by paralysis. Very odd people also don't die of old age. Seeing the cause of death as pregnancy when she was murdered makes me question if other causes of death are wrong.
My mother in law cause of death was complications from a car wreck. No grass grew on her grave for about 30 yrs. Finally got a head stone on her grave an grass started growing.
The word on death certificate is hysterectomy . The crossing of the letter t makes the letter y look like a q . The wild letter H is simply an artistic attempt on the part of the coroner .
Let's look at it from another angle: 32 is young for a hysterectomy, especially in those times. So there must have been a good reason for that. If you look well at the word Hysterectomy it looks like the beginning was written over the word Poly. Polycystic kidney disease is a fatal kidney disease that will lead to Uremia and death. Nowadays a death certificate would say uremia caused by fill in the kidney disease that caused it in that case Polycystic kidney disease. The hysterectomy would have been the cause of the rapid deterioration of a, in itself fatal, kidney disease. It might very well have been that she suffered from polycystic disease with kidney failure, that that might even have been the reason for the hysterectomy, and the hysterectomy contributed to the kidney failure. Hence contributing factor not causal factor.
Leo….eagle and shield with “KGE” most likely denotes membership in the Knights of the Golden Eagle. I believe this organization was religious in nature and ceased to exist decades ago.
Leo and Heather's channel is the only one that gives information of those who have passed as well as the cause of their deaths Well done you two!

The bladder sits just above the uterus. It's easy to nick if your not sure about anatomy. It was the 1920's.

There are 2 cemeteries in Lewisburg. One is Civil War and one is a mass grave. Very interesting
Thanks buddy..
at the Greebrier Ccemetery , the headstone with the egal, sheld with KGE on the sheld stands for Knights of the Golden Egales
Thoroughly enjoy these visits through history. Do you think using a flashlight on those older stones would help you read them?

Pretty sure it says Hysterectomy as the contributing cause for Evie Callison.

Henry Briggs Callison's cause of death was listed as paralysis aqitam. I think it was misspelled. Paralysis agitans is an old name for Parkinson's.
ah ok thank you!
My mother in law cause of death was complications from a car wreck. No grass grew on her grave for about 30 yrs. Finally got a head stone on her grave an grass started growing.

Heather, for Evie Callison, it looks like something historectomy (I'm sure I spelled that wrong).
The word on death certificate is hysterectomy . The crossing of the letter t makes the letter y look like a q . The wild letter H is simply an artistic attempt on the part of the coroner .
Just curious.... how do you find the records of how people died? I have looked and looked, and can never find anything on Google
We pay for ancestry and my heritage. since we use it so much
@@thehillbillyfiles makes sense. Thank you very much
the word after uremia is polystrectomy. Broken down poly refers to kidney stone and ectomy to removal.
The KGE is a fraternal organization called the Knights of the Golden Eagle.
I saw the Samie Meadows below, it said strangulation. At 67? Now i am curious.
KEG, Knights Of The Golden Eagle!
My daughter is an RN. She says our greatest discovery was antibiotics.
where was the tb sanatarium? most states had a few..
Looks like hysterectomy. Uremia, looks like the surgeon made a miscut and introduced waste in blood stream which in turn can cause kidney failure.😢😢
Absolutely correct. Would have been a major lawsuit today.
Let's look at it from another angle: 32 is young for a hysterectomy, especially in those times. So there must have been a good reason for that. I'm no doctor, but I did stay at a motel 6 last night 🤣🇺🇸
I looked up KGE and I found it stands for Knights of the Golden Eagle.
How do people get access to these kinds of records?

I've been abled to see some death certificates of my family on the website for the WV State Archives. I have Ancestry too.
1921 the Spanish flu was still going on. I grew up in Greenbrier County and alot of those family names still live in the area.
KGC I believe, stands for Knights of the Golden circle
Yes alot of TB there.
Urania is due to kidney failure
Uremia is when kidneys no longer filter properly
