  • Croton Plant Care Simplified! In this video I will explain how to help your croton go from cranky to happy. Croton care explained. The large croton, as seen in the thumbnail, is a petra croton I have had for over 3 years. This croton and I have had ups and downs, as I have moved several times in the last three years and after all this time I've finally gotten a hang of the care it needs to obtain growth and maintain its beauty.
Crotons are tropical plants native to S. India, but they are very common and sold widespread throughout the U.S. and North America.
I hope this video will help you whether you are a new or experienced plant owner.
    #croton #tropicalplants #petracroton
Products that have worked well for my crotons that I recommend:
    Cactus/Palm/Citrus Soil
    Miracle Gro Indoor Plant Fertilizer
    Humidifier
    Sunlight (FREE)
    Tender loving care (FREE)

It seems Crotons are more likely to have a round full form if they are planted into a bigger container, in my experience.
I often see them in small containers like yours, growing mostly just upward. But I think it can only get so tall before it starts leaning over. Mine is in a large (wider) pot and doing excellent for years. It grows outward and upward and has a lovely, full, bush-like shape. Other than that, I have it in bright sunlight for several hours per day in the window and only water when it gets dry. Very easy to care for!

Mine was attacked by spider mites that came through my screen. It looked totally dead. I cut it back it back to 2 inches of wooden stem. It was barren of leaves.
It stayed like that for over three months. I did not give up. Watered when almost dry. Fed it once. All of a sudden one day three leaves started growing and it’s been growing ever since. Thanks for the advice. I too thought the soil you used is a better mix. I’m about to transplant a new one I recently got. It’s so beautiful but root bound. I love the Croton. I had a gorgeous big Croton 'Petra' for YEARS and had no idea of what it needed. Never fertilized or did ANYTHING other than water it. It was near the sliding glass door so it was getting enough light but it was falling over. I had it tied for three or four years and finally said "I need to repot this!!!" I did that last year and it immediately started dropping leaves, until it had almost none left. I was devastated. I moved it upstairs into a room with two big windows and a bunch of T5 lights. It seems like it is putting out some new leaves but it's leggy now... I watched another video and was considering chopping and trying to reroot the stems...

Where I work, we have a huge croton, bushy and healthy, about 4 feet tall. It’s in front of a bright window in a back room, and probably gets ignored most of the time, until someone remembers to water it. Doesn’t belong to anyone. It was probably a gift basket plant at some point. I’m thinking of taking a cutting….though they look like the type of plant that is prone to scale.

I have a croton which really thrived in summer outside. As soon as I brought it back in house pre fall it died. No leaves on it whatsoever. I'm going to try to save it.❤️

I am a new plant mom and have a croton and I'm noticing that my leaves have been falling off here and there. Not multiples but maybe one every couple of weeks or so. I do have new ones coming but I'm worried the ones falling off are from the plant being stressed. Maybe it's my soil? Or my watering? And advice?

Bruh I thought my big croton was like 2 or 3 croton cause I bought it fully grown but the lady replanted a bit deep and it's got like 5 stems. I didn't realize JUST HOW big some of these can get. This thing is a unit

This was so helpful! I have this plant and scanned it to find out what it was because she just isn't growing! I thought the light was too much for it because it kept losing leaves. But now I find it actually wasn't enough and I was starving it off is humidity. Do you suggest maybe placing her outside for a few hours and then bringing her back inside. I have alot of direct sunshine in front but the trees are gone so no shade. I would love to see her grow like yours!
