Great video to look back on. I just picked up a school of 8 Von Rio’s to pair with Orange Venezuela Corydoras and an Apistogramma Macmasteri.
I have a school of these with my dwarf cichlids and they compliment them amazingly well! I adore them and how colorful they are once settled!!
These guys were my first tetras and my kids loved them. We housed them with harlequin rasboras, bleeding heart tetras, bristlenose pleco and false julii corydoras.
Von Rios are lovely.
Lovely video :) very helpful, and BEAUTIFUL tank. So lovely
I got these in one of my aquariums and I love them!
Love your recommendations
These are great fish. Just picked up a school of 12 today.
Hope you enjoy them!
Have always wanted some of these. Went to the fish store down the street and bought all that he had today!
Perfect timing, I was gonna get some of these!
Have fun!
I got some last week. Nice.
Beautiful Tetras!! Flip Aquatics just has some of the most amazing nano fish ever!! I love Joanna's scape on this 😍
Their color is really pretty and really pop against the Green and the Driftwood 😍 the females are really stunning!!
I have had my same fish since I started back in the hobby and I can't wait until I can add some of these little beautiful fish that you guys have introduced me to over the past year 😁❤️
Thank you so much Jason and Joanna for keeping me so excited and helping me grow!! Have a wonderful day my friends! 🙏❤️😁
🌿🐟🌿💚
Thank you! Ya, they fit in nicely!
2day is my birthday so I gifted myself 2 PrimeTime Aquatics T-Shirts and became a member. Truly enjoy your videos. Joanna is an aquascaping genius. Love her designs.
That's so cool! Thank you for being here! :-) And Happy Birthday!
A gorgeous tetra as the redish orange comes in. Had them with ottos, guppies, cherry barbs, and cherry shrimp.
My son had some flame tetras in his community tank. They got along well with the ember tetras, porkchop rasboras, teacup platys and lil pygmy cories.
It was a fun tank for a few years.
👍💓👍
Great info on these fish
A very informative video as always
Thank you!
I actually prefer the wild color form to the more common Orange Flame morph (which is what you have). They (the wild type) look a little bit like miniature Black Skirt Tetras, but with reddish fins.
Ya, those are really awesome too!
They are beautiful Tetras.
Nice fish, enjoyed the every second of it. Thank You Mr. Prime Time
Thank you!
@@PrimeTimeAquatics Welcome
Wow these look awesome!
Awesome tetra Jason. 😎👍😉
how did you know i was researching these guys lol, also this is the captive strain, the wild type have more color to them as well as a pair (or trio) of darker vertical bars behind the gill plate. They also do great in an unheated tank as well and can tolerate the upper 60's for a period of time
amazing fish
I like thoV von Rio tetras. The black substrate and back ground I think we’re a great choice.
(Poor spelling on my last comment here)
Thank you! :-)
I love it.
I have these as well very nice
Cool!
Thanks Jason! Again I concur. Flip Aquatics has great stock. Just my opinion but I have had good luck when I cannot find the fish I want locally! Thanks for sharing!!!!!
Good to hear!
I have heard you mention infusoria on several of your video's recently being needed for some of the very small fry. Could you consider creating a video regarding the culturing, best use, and when to use (species of fish best for, timing, etc.)?
Nice!
Very informative, only trouble was I kept getting distracted by all the activity in the tank. Another excellent video 😎
Ya, everyone is always on the move!
I love mine. Picked up 4 from petco, also the orange strain. Wish i could find more
6th comment! Yea baby 😂😂 good video bro!
Just picked up six of the von Rio tetra and put it in a tall 20 gallon tank
Nice video 👍
I'm ever curious
(& a little nervous)
how a certain type of rock may effect the water chemistry.
Stick with wood for now
(I've hard water).
As a viewer, I'd like to request
"blue tetra" next to
"green neon tetra".
I haven't found a comparison video like that, so
just an idea. ❤️
Cool idea! Usually for tanks with harder water and a higher pH rocks don't have too much of an impact (they don't for us at GH/KH ~ 10 degrees and a pH of 8-8.2).
I've got some of these on order waiting on the aquatic centre to get them in...
They are a beautiful little fish I thought full size congo tetras might be a little risky with this fish Ave you seen the teeth on congo tetras 🤔
Oh my Bad you said ember tetra I misheard 😂😂😂
Can I dye the tank water or is that not safe?
Good Morning
If you wanted to go with cooler temps maybe a setup with White Clouds and a Paradise Gourami.
I wanted to see how they would live with gold fish so I put them in no aggressive behaviour or fin nipping. Also I don’t own a heater bc my room is consistently the same temp.
Are these tetras known by any other common name? I have never heard of the Von Rios before. Beautiful tetras! If I ever seem them at my LFS, I'll get some for my community tank! Thanks for this information!
Yep - Flame Tetras
you've got a fine beard sir!
Why thank you :-)
Hi Jason. Moved my remaining 5 Von Rios to the previous pea puffer planted 20 long with 2 pygmy corys about 4 months ago and today I have counted at least 7 babies. Wasn't trying, never considered breeding them!! Hi PH(8+) rock hard water. Can't get a guppy to breed but what can you do?! Thanks for all your help. got to go fire up the brine shrimp hatchery now!
That’s so cool!
Quick question, how are yours with aquarium lights? Mine hated the lights so bad they all just bunched up with clamped fins on the substrate and caves. Did a simple filtering of the light and they seem to appreciate it.
They’ve always done ok
Neo what shrimp?
Between these or neon green raboras which would pair better with my pea puffers?
Probably the rasboras - a little less crazy
I bought a used 20 gallon tall there was a background on the tank already there was a fish on it that I couldn't figure out what it was until now!!
Well, now you have paper Von Rios! Woohoo! :-)
Thanks for this video, quite helpful.
I want to add dwarf gouramis and bolivian ram to my tank.
Will the males fight - if I add males only in both species.
I have tetras and danios. Thanks
I generally only add one dwarf to a tank. Males are more likely to fight with one another.
Thank you
i'd love to hear your take on silvertip tetras! they're not as common as everyone says, and they don't always have visibly silver tips!
oh they do! just gotta give em time and fatten them up, my males are a beautiful orange color with highly visible silver tips and the females are almost a silver/chrome body
I like them too. All the ones I have seen generally have the silver tips on their fins.
I ordered green neon tetras from Azgardens. They gave me silver tip tetras. They are good looking but can be a bit rough with each other. A few of them have faint red at the base of their tail fin
@@DaNiElLl430 they are definitely a bit boisterous, they’re very active tetras
Are those gold tetras Hemigrammus rodwayi in there? I have 7 myself.
The only other tetras I have in there besides the Von Rio are Blues?
Have you ever owned bleeding heart tetras or diamond tetras ? Those two tetra are very hard to find now a days.
I’ve had both and like them!
I’ve noticed that there are some von rios that have a darker belly, is there two color variations or did I miss something in the video?
Females tend to be lighter in color. Males tend to get more color as they grow. :-)
yes. these look like the orange. the "classic" has more of a red body and silver head and vertical black stripes as I understand.
I swear there are two variants of this fish because the ones I got where more silver and red then this color even though I wish the ones I got where this color
Can I use Copper safe with stingrays and loaches
I'm not sure about stingrays, but I know the loaches didn't appreciate it when I used copper safe with them. They survived, but the Ich-X would have been a better way to go.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I’ve been using Ick x For a month all the fish are fine but my loaches just can’t seem to get it gone they are the problem don’t know what to do it’s a 265 gallon tanks that I’m treating and it’s getting really expensive just trying to save the fish
Are they known to be fin nippers? I am wanting to add some to my 75 gallon with my angelfish, black neons, and albino corydoras.
I haven't seen them nip at anyone, but there's no guarantee.
@@PrimeTimeAquatics I think I'll give them a try. If they don't work out they can go in the 55 gallon aka the tank of tetras that didn't work with my angel lol.
I had 6 von rios and added 4 mickey mouse platys in a 55 gallon tank and that combination did not work. The von rios ganged up on the male platy who was bright orange and the largest, brightest yellow female. (She was also pregnant, but I didn't know at the time.) They didnt do anything to the smaller, duller orang females. The von rios nipped and chased aggressively, so I moved the platys out on the 3rd day. I think similar size and flashier color spurred territorial reaction.
@@dclark5841 thanks for the info. I might skip the von rios then. My tank is peaceful and I would like to keep it that way.
@@hrjohnson77 I forgot to add...the von rios do get along well with 6 harlaquin raspboras and 4 black skirt tetras. I think the similar size and color was the trigger for the aggression against the platys. Good luck.
Be careful of where you get your Von Rios from. This the only fish I had that died one by one, day after day, since introducing them to my tank. I looked online to see if I was the only one and came to the consensus that this is fairly common. Make sure you're not getting weak stock.
I had that same problem with the wild strains that are a little darker. These ones appear to be much healthier.
That’s crazy I just got rid of some of these🤦
