In 38 years of fish keeping, neon tetras are still my favorite fish. I currently have 12 in a community tank and they are gorgeous when they school. Lightly planted tank as of about a month ago, 1st time trying real plants, but mine have been fantastic with fake plants. I have had schools live 5-6 years with only losing maybe 1 or 2 over those years. Best foods I have found are Hikari micro pellets, Hikari vibra bites but I crush them up small so the larger fish can eat the full size, and the neons would eat the smaller pieces. Extreme brand krill flakes, Extreme brand community pellets, Fluval bug bites, Tetra Tropical flakes, and frozen brine shrimp!

I fairly expect fries to be eaten by the bigger fishes, but I want to know if they can actually breed in that kind of setup. I’ve had baby mollies and shrimplets (tho i’m sure some of them got eaten) survive in my tank. I’m not sure if it will be okay for spawning fish tho.
@stanseventeen821; The parent fish will eat their own eggs. It would be better to have their own separate breeding tank and to remove them after the eggs are laid, from what I have read. There are informational videos you can refer to regarding these fish which will help you on your adventure. Good luck!
Just started keeping tetras. I have always loved them. I have 8 out of the original 13.. water and environment are what they should be yet I cant keep them alive.
I have a 10 gallon tank with 11 ember tetras. Before I add my betta, I want to add some neons because 11 embers are HARDLY taking any space and are very shy most of the time. Would adding 8 neons be too much once I add the betta? The tank is indeed planted with driftwood for tannins. Thanks!
@@cashmiller670 No it’s not. Barely 5-10ppm nitrates per 10-12 days. One of my 10g has a betta, 9 tetras and 3 loaches. Perfectly okay. If my 10g was for embers only, I’d have 12-15 with plants.
Shoot.. I was going to get a school of the mini tetras in my guppy tank... Is there a different schooling fish that is more tolerant to high light conditions? thanks
I’ve had them in community tanks and unfortunately they went missing. But I now have them in a platy tank and all 20 are all still going.. they are all as bigger or bigger than my cardinals. Interesting about their life span. I’ve always been told 12 to 18 months max.

I have a 10 gallon with only 5 tertas. Apparently less is the best because everytime I try a full of school 6+ they seem to die. How many should I normally have? Will the low ph effect the cory catfish
He said 8+. I personally have had 5 for 2 years in a 20 gal long with black neon tetras. they say they don’t school together and from what I can tell they either school together or schooling with someone else from the other group or just doing their own thing 😅

I'm trying to find out whats causing aggression in my tetras. I have a planted 20 gallon, with 6 glowlight and 6 neon tetras, oto cats, snails, and shrimp. The neon tetras have bullied and nipped each other since I got them. Ph is fine, kinda shady, plenty of varied food, and plants, though water tends to be hard out of the tap. Also, I have had to rearrange plants, add neutralizers, and plant fertilizers, could it be the added chemicals stressing them out? I worry I'll come home and see one dead or that they'll begin attacking the shrimp or glowlights.
@CAMSLAYER13 almost every other video I've seen and even the fish specialist at my store says 6 is ok. They've actually started to calm after I removed my high light need plants. They now have less cover and more light, which is the opposite of all the advice I've read, but seem happier?

I was hoping I could do a school of 6 neons and 6 neon green tetras. Anyone have any insight into whether they'll school normally? I'm noticing aggressive mating behavior. The tank is pretty new so I'm hoping that as the plants mature, it'll help. Thanks for the videos!

My fish have been in their tank for about a week now, I've only just started to observe some ?aggresive behaviour today. It seems to be one tetra 'buzzing' a bunch of others. My main concern is that this is a stress response, my tank wasn't fully cycled so I've been doing daily water changes to assist this, or an overpopulation issue? I have 10 tetras in a 35L tank...please help! I wanted to have these guys settle in before adding a betta fish but I'm worried there will be an all-out war if I add in the betta
Hey I just got 9 neon tetras to my South American aquarium and for some reason they just stopped schooling which is a shame because I love watching them school!!! Any ideas how I can fix this?
Its good that they stopped schooling as they find that your tank is comfortable and they dont find the need to school for safety anymore. But if you want them to school do add a boisterous center piece fish like a angelfish which will make them a bit more scared which will make them school again.Do let me know if this helped!
I don't think angelfish is a good option. Angelfish can grow up to 8 inches and are opportunistic eater so they may try to eat your neon tetras. Some are gentle but not always. :/

Please name the leaf again for the tank tnx😊
Can you put 6 neon tetras, 6 glowlight tetras, 2 dwarf cory, an apple snail, and a shrimp in a 50 liter tank with live plants, a half boat and and extra airstone?
I am a beginner. Thank you so much for this video!
Can you show us your Neon's tank?
