The Kobudo Asayama Ichiden Ryu, of which Seki Sensei is the 22nd headmaster, was one of the most popular Ryuha styles during the Edo period. In our golden age, we had over 7,000 students nationwide. Today, we only have 100 students. Our dream is to revive the golden age of Asayama Ichiden Ryu while Seki Sensei is still the headmaster. We want future generations to remember Seki Sensei as the legendary Sōké who brought back the glory of our Ryuha. Your donations will be used to cover Shogo's travel expenses to visit the main dojo from Kyoto, RUclips video shooting costs, online lesson operation costs, and training camps in Japan and overseas.

My katana is around 3 pounds, pretty heavy. Its difficult to get the whoosh sound. The sword with weight to it is very difficult to keep controlled with loose hands but its coming together slowly. I can get it to move smoothly but its hard to keep the blade angle consistent.

Man this is so cool! Ive always loved kenjutsu/Iai but living in canada and being poor makes it hard to even want to try this stuff.
I can now get a practice plastic katana with a sheath to try Iai skills! Thabks so much and appreciate all the work you do!

I have a question, I’m a self train person and this is two parts
Question one: I know a stance is important but how do you move your legs while using your sword?
Question two: when I do sideways cuts my left thumb keeps hitting my right arm and my left side cuts aren’t doing too good, is there a way for me to improve that?

i thought this was going to be only bodybuilding techniques that make us more confident when holding a weapon.could someone ask seki sensei to make katas that need to exist in order to help muscle memory and creativity?

Hello Seki Sensei, I have a question, would kendo work for self defense/protection. I know kenjutsu would be better at self defense but kendo also has properties that could work if manipulated to do so. Kendo does not have many if not any defensive moves but if you learn to protect those areas I think it could work. I feel that it should work at long as you have a shinai, bokken or a tough stick with you. I am excluding kendo footwork from this since it is not very practical. Thank you.

Thank you for this video. In many of the prior ones it was difficult to tell rear foot, knee, and hip positions throughout the techniques. This is an unfortunate consequence of wearing traditional hakama while teaching/training. However, the speed of demonstration in this video and the multiple camera angles made this easier to detect.
