Continuous weapon sparring is always good to see, in this case with legit Aikido technique.
At some point I'll try do the same, just with swords.
@@AlexanderGent I wanted to hear that :3
We have been trying to get our own manufactured, but we are on version 3 now and they are still not quite suitable. In the US there are places that manufacture katanas for sparring but in the UK / Europe I've not found anywhere. Until then we are sparring with longswords and sabres. I will still also continue with my contacts in Asia to try develop what I am after.
@@AlexanderGent arent that thai swords you trained with similar in lenght and shape of blade and handle?
They are a similar, but there are some differences. Handle is much longer and blade is shorter, also blade its top heavy. The other issue is the steel. As they are they don't have much flex. We needs swords similar to the sabre and longsword that are made from spring steel, which allows for thrusting and has some give.
Good to see aikidoka sparring, with weapons and 'HEMA' gear no less. Cheers.
Thanks mate. Hopefully more Aikidoka will take this up. Some of the gear we use is actually custom made but based on HEMA equipment and slightly adapted.
Good that you have sparring in AIkido. must schools are just good with some sloppy defending and a partner who follows what you do without resistance.
I'm hope to get some more sparring clips uploaded in the new year!
The best one in terms of actual technique, but I know the other weapons make it a bit difficult.
This is excellent! I hope this catches on
Thank you, I hope so too!
Very interesting form of practice and must be learned, although it is NOT Aikido as there's still the stressful rivalry and no blending or harmony. Obviously Aikido should grow into manifesting principles of perfection and unity in such a challenging level. I believe it can be done.
Thanks for the comment! Still working on refining what we are doing, hopefully this will develop and improve as time goes on. Hope to film some other sparring videos sometime this year.
thanks man, we owe you a lot for your research!
Thanks you are welcome. I plan you make some more sparring videos soon.
@@AlexanderGent we'd be looking for them!
Watched this in slow motion and notice that there is really no lateral movement in this sparring. Maybe this would make it easy to defend and counter a strike rather than just trying to be the quicker striker front on.
Yes good point. This is some fairly old sparring footage, I need to upload some new sparring videos actually, just not got round to it! Hopefully those might be a bit better.
@@AlexanderGent I did watch another of your videos and noticed you performing lateral movements! I’m trying to teach my self how to protect myself currently with a Jo. Keep the videos coming!
👍
How long are the staffs you guys are using in this video?
In this video, they are standard rattan Jos, so about 4ft / 127cm in length.
Where did you get these
