I used this transfer method for a very long time.. then I discovered the light pad and my world was dramatically improved. I had, of course, been aware of them from the past but they have improved so much in the last few years.. they are extremely thin, extremely bright, and very inexpensive. I got mine on Amazon for less than $30USD and it's great, no complaints. It shines right through 140# or even 300# watercolor paper. You can see what you are doing, make adjustments to your sketch, and actually draw on your paper vs. the blunt awkward line resulting from pressure transfer.. you can control your lines so much more effectively using only the amount of pressure you desire getting all the little flicks and turns, even adding basic shading if desired. I wouldn't want to be without it.
Gorgeous colors!, thank you for showing us the process you use to transfer in a step by step tutorial. Often times a beginner will get lost in the explanation, but seeing it done is so helpful. 🙏🏼❤️
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for taking the time to show us, step by step how to begin. Now I'm off to give it as many tries as I need to get close to your finished piece. Lovely! Again, thank you. Fingers crossed!
Very beautiful painting. The tutorial is very methodical and informative. However I remember you mentioning that you did 100 roses!!!! That tells me talent shines with practice! To do something, I mean painting worthwhile I will have to try several to many times. Your step by step guide and detailed instructions are encouraging me to attempt to paint a rose or other flowers in watercolor that I always wanted to do.
Don’t have any expectations! Thank you for these words Lioba because roses are so difficult for me to grasp and they leave me feeling discouraged. I will have a go at this rose and not let myself be discouraged or intimidated to even try!
I Struggle sooooo much with the idea of Washing everything in one color then filling in with different tones/values... @__@ This is so beautiful, and I'm mustering the courage to use it as practicing piece into applying values! Beautiful.
my first watching of your videos and you met all the expectations on how to do a rose in watercolor. I will try this till I get it right. Thanks so much.
I enjoy watching all of your videos. They are so inspiring and made me feel like wanna paint too!.. I, too love painting roses. I agree with most of the techniques and tips you said in the video because I have experienced the same. When painting white or very bright areas, I would leave the paper unpainted. The white colour of the paper itself is so natural and way brighter than the white paint. But of course, like you said, it needed focus and this has always become the most challenging part to me when painting roses. LOL
ah thank you for the tip for the charcoal tracing paper. It's really going to help me so much since I'm better at coloring than doing the line art. It'll help me so much I bought the paper on amazon right away and it was super cheap. 100 pages for only 7$.
This is gorgeous, and it's a great project, but I don't think I would have felt capable of tackling this as a beginner lol. Heck... I'm not sure I could do this now, but after watching you I'll give it a try. I have the biggest problem with judging how dark to go with shadows :x
Basically the stronger the light the darker and sharper the shadow. The softer the light the softer the shadow. Cast shadow will be darkest closest to the subject that is blocking the light and gets lighter at the furthest point of cast shadow. Go for it !
I love the leaves, wow. And the shimmering paints really work so well here. The fluorescent fugitive colours worked so well with those dark yellowish greens. 🖌 I tested all of about 60 synthetic brushes I had yesterday and the best was billy showells size 6 - and they’re only about £7.50 in the uk. It can do hair thin lines but holds a good amount of paint and doesn’t dump paint. The Neptune came out near the bottom. Bad points and pretty stiff hairs that dumped water/paint and couldn’t do very smooth washes. Best for washes was Winsor and Newton pro synthetics but they have terrible points - they’re the only synthetic brush that can do a wash like the best sable. Best all round was Princeton aqua elite. For a good very soft brush casaneo is very nice.
lol I love you so much. you say so many things that i also say. when i take your lessons on patreon its like listening to myself, but smarter and more talented
I all but gave up in trying watercolor because I just don't care for the wishy-washy look that I often see. But these paintings have totally changed my mind. They are stunning. Maybe it's the type of paint? I had no idea that watercolors could be this vibrant. I don't have any experience painting. I only draw with graphite and have some experience with pastels, so I understand the need for value and contrast, observation, etc. I think it could translate to painting. Anyway, this is such a great video. Thank you!
I love your style, it's similar to what I do with my work (have a realistic focal point, but have other areas that are more impressionistic) It's really beautiful! 😊
Can I ask your advice? I am still learning my way with watercolors and am trying to replicate a photo. I’m baffled by how to approach painting a tightly knitted fabric. Any tips would be so helpful. I can send you a sample of what it looks like if you’re willing to help me figure out how to approach it?🙏🙏your help would be so appreciated. Thanks for your time regardless! Love your vids. ❤️
Beautiful as always. And thanks to you Igot into the habit of running around with my old digicam and make photographs of peoples gardens all the time. Though my neighbors don't pay that much attention anymore.
@@LiobaBrueckner Yeah, especially when I make a photo of a bunch of very lovely bellflowers in different colors, that just so happen to grow under a trash bin. People get the impression I'm holding a photo session with that trash bin as my star model.
@@olgahein4384 lololol I'm regularly going into people's front yards when nobody looks to get the exact right angle that I need haha . I def got some weird looks from passing grannies for sure!
Hi Lions, I love love love your work and style. Silly question, I am having a hard time getting beautiful splashes like you...can you tell me what your trick is? Special brush...lots of water...special technique?? Thank you in advance!

I used to be terrible at them when I started. Now they're one of my go-to's as I've gotten quite good at them with time :) practice makes improvement
Very enjoyable and instructive. Also, just the right length and pace.
I’m just beginning a journey of using water colors. Your video was very helpful, thank you! Ginny
