Crazy that they were falling apart and barely talking yet still cranking out new songs right until the end.

Trade is such an amazing song. I wish there was a studio version of it by Husker Du

Too talented together, everything twisted that great mind of Grant, something normal in legends, thanks for this big session!

Could have been great songs, these instrumentals are already impressive, atmopheric...what a pity the post-warehouse record could have been a great one concluding from this rehersal

They had new songs the same year warehouse came out? man these guys could crank out 3 albums a year if they had to

They were definitely one of the hardest working bands, even after going to Warner Bros.

I almost wish I hadn't heard it, so tantalising to think what it could have sounded like with Bob's (I'm assuming it a Mould number) melody over the top. Guess we'll never know now. But Sugar makes up for it, I guess.

Don't despair! As the original poster said, "He released it on Modulate. There's also a Husker performance of it up on here somewhere from a gig."

Yeah, but I mean a studio version with vocals from 1987 with the huskers. Hmm.. maybe I just got confused and what I heard was a live version but I'm pretty sure the sound was very similar to the version heard on this session... especially the guitar. Thanks for posting these rare Dü's

I know "Now That You Know Me" did get recorded in a studio on Grant's first solo album. It also appears on "The Living End", along with "Ain't No Water in the Well". It was pretty normal for Hüsker Dü to test don't out live to see what the audience thought of them before recording them in studio.

The guitar riff at 12:26 sounds an awful lot like the one in 'In a Cold House' (starting around the 1:20 mark) ruclips.net/video/u46uvpIVUEA/видео.html

"Iceberg" is amazing. Any infos about this track? Is it a Bob song? a reference to the Titanic sinking?

There's a live version of the 3rd song. Ain't no water in the well or something.

I'm pretty sure I've heard a version of Trade with vocals from Bob...any help? Does it really exist or am I just dreaming??

Is it possible to find the lyrics ?

Sounds pretty uninspired and unimpressive considering the standards they'd set by then. Dull and plodding, and I never got "Ain't No Water." Why? Sounds like a band with nothing left in the tank here as a unit. Both Grant and Bob put out some great stuff after this; I wish they could've reunited at some point when both were still fairly healthy. Bob's made some great stuff, Grant made some great stuff, but that chemistry with them together was just special.

I think you're just not using the right mindset for these. These are rough instrumental demos from a rehearsal. Nowhere near complete. "Trade", "Now That You Know Me" and "Get Along With Me" sound fantastic, especially if you've listened to the more completed live performances where they actually even sing on them. I'm sure had they stuck it out long enough for a 7th album, it would have been pretty fantastic either way.

I recall reading a post-breakup interview with Grant Hart in which he stated, to paraphrase, “I think we were about to make our worse record”. This rehearsal tape sounds like the work of a solid band - none of the well-documented rapid decline and implosion is evident here - but nobody would have a better sense of where the band was heading than one of its actual members.
