Lawyer here. I commented on Singh’s previous evidence and was stunned at his dishonest performance, but this time round I feel even more sickened. Whenever I instructed external lawyers or experts, I was all over the matters involved, seeing my role as an informed client and often challenging what came back to ensure the best possible advice/outcome. It beggars belief what this guy did, or more specifically didn’t do. At best he was incompetent and lazy, and at worse he was negligent caring not a jot for the potential miscarriages of justices that emanated from his feckless hands!

Seriously, how TF did the Post Office get away with witholding information that was vital to the defence?

He denies everything unless it shows him in a good light and then miraculously his memory seems to recover. He shifts the blame onto others and if I got a £ for every time he said “ I don’t know”, “I don’t remember”, “I don’t recall”, “I wasn’t the decision maker” I would be as wealthy as Paula V having just received her bonus for turning the business around.

I've seen so much footage of this inquiry and it never ceases to amaze me how the POL employees and associates claim they have no recollection and then immediately recollect very precisely that someone else was responsible. They also claim not to have said something which is then produced in an email they wrote upon which they try to re-write the English language in order to have their words mean something completely different to what is written. Jarnail Singh is one of the most transparent liars in this whole debacle. And that's saying something.

But time and again, his past actions display deliberate obtuse methods, ambiguous language and a continuous need to deflect responsibility. This was his skill set. This expertise in dissembling was what he was being paid for. He wasn't out of his depth, he was paddling in it, kicking up as much silt as he could to muddy the waters.

People’s lives were destroyed but none of the higher-ups were responsible. All confess they knew nothing, they knew no one else involved, it didn’t occur to me, not my area of responsibility, not under my control, I didn’t know, I didn’t know, I didn’t know. And for such competence they were paid huge executive salaries. And are they now on large pensions? As minimum, minuscule consequence all of them should lose those pensions because, after all, by their own words they were not in control, or in other words, they did nothing to earn a salary and so, no pension-they did nothing but look the other way.

Secondly, if you get an email and don't know what that person's roles is, double click their name and check their group memberships for internal senders or the domain name for cc: recipients.. easier still, just look at their effing email signature. Having said that, it could be this guy was getting stitched up by others and wasn't clever or devious enough to manage it.

All of the people at the top of the PO knew of the problems with Horizon from the very first installation of it. It cost millions to put in and they were going to stick with it no matter the cost to the people who used it, ie the sub postmasters. If it was faulty and they knew, then where did all the money go that the sub postmasters put in to cover so called losses. It can only be put into someone’s pocket at some point. They all, management, had their hands in the till, not the sub postmasters.
