He died 24 years ago today. He left a big hole on the silver screen. Nobody and I mean nobody has been able to replace him. He was the KING OF NOIR! When he step on the screen you paid attention. He was a big handsome lug who happen to be a really good actor. Thank you Robert Mitchum for all those great performances you left behind. When you are on the screen everybody else pales.

Also loved Mitchum and Victoria Tennant in the two mini series made for t.v. Winds of War and War and Remembrance towards the end of his career. He could still rock a Navy uniform well into his 60’s and early 70’s! RIP

@@pamelarossell7027 Yes he could. I remember Winds of War and War and Remembrance well. They were the last two good movies he did even thought they were for TV. Everything after were cameos in forgettable films. But when you watch those cameos you see only him.

Perhaps Jim Jarmusch's, Dead Man, wasn't everybody's cup of coffee, but I thought his scene was hilarious, showing his archetypal personality trait that seperated him from the pack...laughing at himself and some of his typecasting...'sides, I love a quality duster❗️

I have always enjoyed Mitchum acting, so I have lots more good films to look forward to seeing. Favourite movies are Night of the Hunter, Out of the Past, Crossfire, Cape Fear, Farewell My Lovely, Heaven Knows Mr. Allyson, The Enemy Below, The Lusty Men, His Kind of Woman, The Way West, River of No Return, Macao and Undercurrent. Most recently, I crossed off My Forbidden Past from my to-see list.

Hi Flora, Mitchum was another of dads favorites so I must have seen quite a few of his films on TV when I was a kid. I count 23 that I know for sure I've seen. My favorites include - Midway (Mitchum had a small role in that), The Longest Day, The Enemy Below, The Way West, River of no Return, Villa Rides, Cape Fear, Farewell My Lovely, Out of the Past and Night of the Hunter. Thanks for commenting Flora, always appreciated, glad you're enjoying these expanded videos. Three more Hollywood legends next week.

Some great flics. I miss seeing Dead Man in that list, but it was more of a Johnny Depp movie. Charles Laughton would be proud to see Night of the Hunter at #1; it did bad box office, and so Laughton never directed another film. Then it became a classic years later. The love/hate image became iconic. Lilian Gish & Shelley Winters were also good, as were the kids with their versions of Home Alone, thwarting Mitchum, who was great as always.

Damn damn.....just spent 20 minutes working on a comment....and now it is gone. Darn those kids of mine...always wanting something. AFI legend gets an update, like it. I have seen 20 of these movies favorites include: #4 El Dorado...watch this one about once a year #5 Ryan's Daughter...has Debbie interested in going to Ireland #15 The Sundowners. Of course his classics are good movies from Night of the Hunter to Midway (ok maybe only a classic in my book) to Out of the Past. Great posters...great video. Voted up and shared.

Hi Bruce, Flora has seen 30, your tally is 20 and I've seen 23. El Dorado is one of my favorite westerns. I've watched Midway again recently on blu-ray. Saw that at the cinema in 1976 in Sensurround. basically a lot of rumble and vibrating seats. Thanks again for the comment, vote and share.
