Can't believe that some of my favorite John Wayne films are so low in the ratings. "The Searchers" was John Wayne's favorite film, as well.

Just too many good ones. I just saw the searchers and the high and mighty. Loved them so much.

John Wayne nickname d Duke, was d greatest western movie actor of all times. Most of his other roles were in war movies.I had d opportunity of meeting him twice in my life and he was d perfect gentleman.I love d diehard remark associated with his western roles, when d crooks threaten him,and his response,of "that will be d day".RIP.Duke!

How could anyone have thought that John Wayne in THE CONQUEROR was a GOOD idea?
If Yul Brynner or Jack Palance was not available the project should have been cancelled!
No one could convince me that THE GREEN BERETS at position 83 is a worse movie than all the 1930’s/1940s B movies which appear higher.
The most treasured movie in my collection is my Blu Ray of THE ALAMO 1960, which I think is his most important movie.

Another great list, and a number of John Wayne films I've never even seen.
My John Wayne favourites would be
    1. The man who shot liberty balance
    2. The quite man
    3. The sons of Katie elder
    4. Rio bravo
    5. True grit.
John Wayne had a huge presence on the screen ....and he starred in 2 of my all time favourite films. A true screen legend.

John Wayne was a busy actor, the only actor on my video channel with a top 100 list. Liberty Valance your favorite of his films? Interesting. My favorite? Probably Rio Bravo but Stagecoach, Red River and The Searchers are high up too.

I am not a Wayne fan per se and I have seen 40 out of 100. I won't list all of them like I usually do as that is too big a comment. This is a massive video full of great posters and stills. My favourite movies are They Were Expendable, The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, Stagecoach, Rio Bravo, The Quiet Man, The Alamo, and Fort Apache. I know you had considered expanding classic videos to higher totals. I am guessing you will be doing more of these expanded and revised editions. My favourite posters are from The Alamo, Stagecoach, Fort Apache and They WEre Expendable.

Hi Flora, appreciate you checking out this long video knowing you're not a John Wayne fan but other favorite actors of yours have starred with the Duke so it should be worthwile. 40 out of 100 is pretty good all things considered. I count 59 movies seen probably more, I know I've seen a bunch of his western b-movies too. It took a couple of weeks to produce the video whilst also working on other videos. I'm just glad it's finished and out there on the net. I'll do similar extensive videos on other Hollywood greats over the coming weeks e.g. James Stewart, Cary Grant, Bogart. Thanks as always for commenting!

In the top 20, 10 were directed by John Ford, 4 by Howard Hawks, and 3 by Henry Hathaway. The Ford-Wayne team has got to be considered the greatest Directing-Acting combination in Hollywood history, but hurt the Critcal recognition for the Searchers when it was released. I rank Howard Hawks above Hitchcock as the best Director never to win a competitive Oscar. He had more great films in more different genres. Henry Hathaway professional relationship is highly personal for Wayne. In Shepard of the Hills Wayne got to work with the actor he most tried to emulate, Harry Carey: North to Alaska is the template for late career 'buddy films'; entertaining and obviously fun to make with Wayne and another A' list actor [Granger, Douglas, Hudson, Mitchum, Attenborough and even Katherine Hepburn,] Sons of Katie Elder made right after is Lung Surgery and of course True Grit. Don Siegel , the Director of The Shootist is Clint Eastwood's mentor.

You know your stuff Patrick, great post thanks. Hawks, Ford and Hitchcock are big favorites of mine. I've read their various bios. Hitch the most genial of the three. Hathaway I'm familiar with his filmography but not the man himself. I'd say film buffs were more impressed with his 40's noir than his later westerns. I may do a video on him later this year.

Well....my master plan here was to break my comment down into two sections....just when I was about with movies 100 to 51....I stupidly went to another page and lost my comment.....so this first comment will be much shorter. I have seen 22 of the first 50 movies....not to bad since I have seen very few of his B westerns. Seeing the 100 is pretty impressive...especially with so many posters. Interesting nuggets I shared? Jet Pilot actually took a little less than a decade to get released...which is why when looking at his movies....he seems so young looking in that movie. He was out of place in his two cop movies from the 1970s...Brannigan and McQ...I think they came in 69th and 68th place. Hellfighters (#79?) is dumb but a fun movie. I am sure I am lots of other awesome comments...but those are the ones I remember. Good epic...video...now back to numbers 50 to 1.

Hi Bruce, this was a bit of an experiment, I wanted to see if I could update and expand my older videos without having to delete everything. This seems to have done very well considering the length.

Many people like his films. Sad to say If I see he's in a film I will not watch it. J/W always played J/W. I watched the film The Longest Day some time ago. It was buggered by J/W acting Or lack of.

#49..Wing of Eagles...one of the weaker Ford/Wayne movies #46 Rio Lobo...weak western #45 Flying Leathernecks...good Wayne performanc #44 Flying Tigers...his co-star looks just like Gable #43 Rooster Cogburn....not a favorite #42 Donovan's Reef...fun movie #41 Back to Baatan....good war flick #40 Horse Soldiers...ok movie #39 Reap the Wild Wind...one of the few Wayne bad guy roles. #38 High and Mighty....song played at Duke's funeral. #37 Greatest Story...greatest line of all-time #36 Fighting Seabees...he does not make it out of this one #35 Shepherd of Hills...ok movie #34 Island in the Sky....good movie...rarely mentioned when Wayne movies are talked about #33 Angel and Wayne....has it's moments #31 Chisum...another of his better later westerns #30 Big Jake....I thought he was dead #29 The War Wagon...fun movie #28 3 Godfathers....it's ok #27 Hondo...classic western....#26 McLintock...fun fun movie...so that is another 20 watched....for a total of 42 of the first 75.

And it also gave me a great opportunity to showcase movie posters that otherwise might never have appeared in any of these videos, such as John Wayne's early b-westerns.
