Love these lists. I’m happy to see movies I’ve never heard of let alone seen so I can hunt them down.
Not sure I can see any other movie other than Full Metal Jacket as number one though.

As an American, I honestly love Talvisota (The Winter War) more than any 80s war movie that ever released from Hollywood.

Great list, I like how basically all of these show the horrors and wastefulness of war. None of them glorify it like some movies do nowadays.

The Sad part is... Most of these films have been censored now. Deemed to Violent for viewing. Yet our Video games have more blood and gore then most old school movies.

I liked RAN but that's because I served in the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) and RAN means chaos in Japanese poetic

Given some of the other decade films selects I’m surprised that for the 1980‘s we don’t have a film like War Games (ok a stretch) but at least The Day After in it as it tells a lot about the Cold War and the mentality and stresses of the era.

I remember watching Das Boot for the first time. I was terrifyed. In my opinion this is the best war movie ever, because of its realism.

Full Metal Jacket is not about Soldiers. It's about Marines.

In the end Marines are just soldiers. They wear uniforms and are trained to kill. Everything else is cult worship.

Ran is certainly beautiful, but highly overrated.
