I did a few months in county and to be completely honest they can use more guards like this dude. He seems like a good guy. Being treated like a human being by a guard is noticed and is respected and appreciated.
I worked as a Correction Officer for 28 years in Pennsylvania. This tray is a typical tray. A bag lunch was served to the inmates when the jail was on lockdown, they missed a meal due to an outside trip to a doctor, or being transported to a different jail. They had 2 bologna sandwiches, a couple of mustard packs , an apple and a milk. Diabetic inmates got a diabetic bag in the evenings before evening lock down. They had graham crackers and a fruit, like an apple or pear. There were special diet trays for some inmates, and for Muslims there were Ramadan meals during Ramadan. No pork was served and very seldom beef was served except for beef liver and onion day. The trash cans in the dinning hall got full real quick those days. The only thing I really didn't let leave the dinning hall were bananas. The inmates would flush the banana peels and clog the toilets up. The plumber would have to be called to unclog the toilets. I never worried about bread or cookies. Although, some inmates made wine from the bread. Some bread, sugar, drink mix and jelly will brew you up some hooch to get drunk on.
You wouldn’t believe how many have claimed I am lying about what is normal or typical. Most COs don’t want to get in a use of force over food, most don’t want to be taken advantage of either. A lot of things go into it…food means a lot in institutions where inmates don’t have a lot. Make sure all inmates get what they are supposed to have, don’t short the PC inmates…watch the trustees they could target PC inmates for a verity of reasons. Food / Tray pass needs to be taken seriously.
@@UniversitySecurity I once was pulled to pick trays up that I didn't pass out. I had no idea what was on the trays. I found out they had ketchup packs on the trays. When I got to the one cell the inmate was what i thought getting sick in the toilet. He was vomiting red stuff up. I stopped and went down to call medical to come up. He really had me fooled. He was laughing and calling me a fool. The other inmates attacked him because if there was someone getting sick for real, they didn't want me to think they were fooling me also. I wrote him up for disrupting normal business of the institution. He got another 15 days in the restrictive housing unit.
Don't worry I work food service for DOC and did for the county and know alot about it because I am also Servsafe but still get to read and see the meals being made. As well as see how things are served.
More c.o's need to be like this guy. Understanding not everyone in their is guilty or a scum bag. Do your job. Recognize the difference and be professional. All inmates ask
Not at the facility I worked. The food we served was sourced from major chains…Chicken Patties were Tyson ext. Inmates may get outside food during hospital stays or during transport but it’s not common.
They are provided a special tray, late night snack is also common. Sandwich....Nursing staff will have OJ for those who need it. Typically diabetics are closely monitored by nursing staff. With sugar tests at least twice a day. Of course they can refuse and that is seriously watched / documented. We had RN / LVN staff along with a visiting doctor (General and Phycologist) and dentist.
the same food every day, maybe cereal for breakfast, a hot lunch, and a sandwhich for dinner every day. If you don't want bad food, don't go to jail. Some jails have better food than others, I was given a tour, quite interesting.
@@UniversitySecurityI mean you have some people who don't get commissary, the indigent folks. And also some meals like Sunday morning cake and oat meal trays everyone ate and chicken nugget lunch trays along with some others. But for the most part, the state trays weren't it, lol
@@UniversitySecurity I was also locked up in Massachusetts. We got absolutely no types of fruits or fresh vegetables of any kind.. Idk how they get away with it honestly. It was nothing but carbs and sodium
We had fruit cocktail, apple sauce, peaches…,fruit yogurt in the morning. Typical institutional offerings. Johnny Sack lunches included a piece of fruit…not canned.
Point taken, inmates called the other inmates who ate the left overs roaches. Someone was always willing to eat off the trays. Guys would get frustrated by the same guy asking… are you going to finish that.
I have heard of better trays that what is shown....I have heard of worse as well. I would say my old facility was middle of the road. We did not serve the blended food "meatloafs"....That's probably the worst looking and tasting stuff.
This is pretty accurate to what we served. We were required to pick random trays and eat the same food that inmates were. It wasn’t the best food I have ever had but it was far from the worse. Having served in the military, our daily was comparable at times to what was served in our jail. Some people have experiences in facilities with absolutely horrible food….It has to be nutritionally there, it doesn’t have to taste good. That’s a reality. People seem to have this concept that their experience in prison or jail from other parts of the country must be how it is everywhere else. I can tell you we did NOT serve blended food combos or meatloafs which are served in some facilities in violent / suicide prevention cells. Our Sheriff started his career in corrections and made it clear he wanted to maintain a certain standard.
This is the 4th jail orientation video I’ve come across in just the last 2 days. Up until then, I had no idea they even existed. Take heed soon-to-be criminals, especially you wannabe gangstas, this can’t be a coincidence.
I was on a Tin-Can....We had okay food....The good food was often followed by bad news. If you got in good with the CS's....they always had something special cooking in the back. We had a Filipino CS1, who was amazing at turning very little into a tasty meal.
My last two years in the service was at an Air Force command. Absolutely amazing food and quality of life. Pick your rate, choose your fate...same applies to the branches.
Texas sux here in CUBA we get 2 chili dogs, slice of pizza French fries, peach cobbler 1 slice of cake, 2 milk shakes, 1 coke , coffee every meal plus a bag of popcorn
currently that would be better than many free people in Cuba, as I have heard that times are hard over there right now. It could be seen as an incentive to get 'locked up' ?
I have a legitimate question. There is another RUclips channel called “JuiceAin’tFree” that shows what looks like a guy in solitary confinement commenting on his trays and showing his meals. I didn’t think inmates were allowed cell phones, much less create RUclips channels.
Their not allowed cell phones. They are considered contraband and have considerable value in jails and prisons. They are brought in by staff, drones and contact visitation.
@UniversitySecurity .....Oh, I definetly know how state cake taste like.....I always gave it away for something else. Never any frosting.....just the cake.
Corrections officer is a misnomer. It's nothing more than a politically correct way of saying prison guard. They guard the prisoners, but they don't actually correct anything.
Jail's in the United States are primarily pre-conviction / pre-trial confinement. The historic term of jailer does not encompass or convey the duties of a modern-day Jailer assigned deputy or Corrections Officer...Sworn or Non-Sworn Officers can be assigned to the facility. So where does that leave us? Prison Guards work post-conviction. Usually work around the same inmates for years. Inmates in jail are not convicted and come and go. So I am not sure I agree with your assumption or if it is easy to assign a title to the Officers that fulfill these roles. Rehabilitation isn't easy in a jail setting....GED programs usually exist but the inmates can come and go as I stated before finishing their programs. Not a heck of a lot of success. They do learn basic janitorial skills, maintenance / landscaping, and kitchen work. It's not much but some do try to use it as a job experience.
Hopefully it helps. In regards to the trays, if it was my fault and I had walked away from the unit, they got to keep them. If they are attempting to steal from the cart it was a write up. I’m not fighting an inmate for a state cake, pick your battles. Food means a lot in institutions, just like shake downs don’t destroy the commissary. Get the job done and be respectful, it goes along way.
We didn't have one. We would randomly select a tray, and a supervisor would have to try the inmates food. My opinion was it was pretty normal for processed food. Tyson chicken nuggets ext. Officer's would have to do portion checks. example was ensuring 5 oz weight for the peanut butter sandwich.
It happens. When I first posted a video, a CO who commented refused to admit he missed one ever in his career. My reaction was COME on. If it's my fault, the tank got the extras. It happens especially around movement of a large number of inmates.
It’s not universal across the board. What is typical is minimum amount of require calories and an approved diet plan by a dietitian. What those calories are besides food can vary. Like the military, correctional institutions don’t always provide the best food….Or even commercial quality food. We were middle of the road in the inmates eyes…I thought it was fairly decent…Something along the lines of public school food in our local area.
