Wonder no more... today, Corrections Deputy Rachel Smith will guide you through the jail, showing you the booking area, release, the kitchen, a unit in the new jail, a unit in the old jail, and more.
Want to join our corrections team? We're offering a $10,000 signing bonus for entry-level candidates and $25,000 for lateral applicants. Contact us today: www.piercecountywa.gov/130/Jo...
NOTE: All inmates shown in this video gave permission for our crew to film them. Most were more than happy to be part of our production.

THE REPLIES???
Because we all need a little reminder every now and then this is where we'll end up if we make poor choices
I worked at two different jails here in Maricopa County, one was 2,000 bed 12 story high rise facility with the first floor as administration, kitchen, and other offices, the 2nd and 3rd held 4 housing units with 4 pods each, the 4th held Visitation, both medium and maximum, Security Control, and medical to include an in patient 20 bed infirmary, the 5th and 6th floors held Juvenile, administrative segregation and closed custody housing 4 housing units with 4 pods each. That was the Madison Street Jail. the next I worked in a 240 bed Psychiatric unit with 6 housing units and a new infirmary that could handle everything except surgeries where they would be transported under armed officers to Maricopa Medical Center which had it's own secure hospital ward for serious cases where the inmates might require intensive care. At one point our jails had over 10,000 inmates incarcerated with in all 6 of our jails.
Back when I was trying to find my way (19 yrs old), I got arrested a few times (DUI and minor in possession the following week). It was 1994 or 1995 and I was arrested and released on my own recognizance for the DUI but booked into Madison Street Jail where I had to spend the night after the MIP charge. I'm sure you were familiar with the horseshoe, but it was dirty and full of drunk guys that wanted to fight each other constantly. wouldn't
After pleading guilty to the DUI I spent 24 hours at Estrella Jail when Arpaio had Tent City going but only stayed in the day room there.
this is the nicest jail, so organized!
Have a nice stay. Hope it was worth el green cardo.

@@sj7601 Check out the jails in Finland. They look like a 5 star hotel.
Deputy Smith, been driving past this center for what 35 years now? always wondered what happened behind the walls of the facility. I do have some experience working with police as I used to provide property security for police departments. Good to see the low level offenders are able to cohabitant with other offenders it reminds me so much of being in basic training.
As someone who works in a facility that's the juvenile equivalent, this amazes me that it's not all that different. Some of ours sit in cells, some of them are able to walk around campus in their own clothes. Half of our residents are also foster care kids so it's interesting to also see the difference in behavior and attitudes between foster care children and children that are inmates (I don't like referring to them as such, they're all my kids regardless of if they're there for foster care placement or if they're incarcerated with us)
foster children are kept at a jail facility?
@@thomascarney4391probably in a seperate section of the facility with less restrictions then the actual jail area.
No. and for the person below you why would they send foster kids to a jail? She’s saying that foster kids mostly attend there because of behavioral issues they have caused by the trauma they’ve gone through. Going house to house, no parents will make a kid act up and get sent to juvie especially if the home they were taken from was already violent.
@@thomascarney4391 there's two separate areas of the facility. The area that's the actual jail, and then the other area that's essentially a group home.
I got a small tour of the sheriffs department near me after my ride along and ima be honest it’s really easy to get turned around in these places.

Nice to see what a U.S. Jail looks like, and to see the differences to our Prisons. Best regards from a german CO.
How different are the German jails from ours ? Are they structure more like rehabilitation facility?
@@josephg6260 we dont have the big dorms where so many inmates are free to walk arround over the day. Every inmate is in his cell alone, in some cases there are up to 4 inmates in a cell, for example if someone has security measures and is not allowed to be alone for suicide prevention. They are locked in the cells the whole day, 1h they can go out in the yard and in the evening they can visit other inmates in the same unit in their cells for 2h.
We sure have "open units" for mostly long term inmates who show good behavior, and we have open prisons for special checked inmates where they work over the day in their jobs and are in the prison only for the nights.

That's not what our prisons are this is a clean nice jail not prison. Heck even most out jails are far worse and dirtier then this.

@@user-ys6kq8lv9j I advise you to not cyberbully.
I'll tell you, you can watch jail videos all day long, but you can't understand what it's like until you go.
You don't have any comforts in jail, no vices such as coffee or nicotine.
It's cold and brutal. The beds and pillows are as hard as a rock, the food is AWFUL, and you constantly feel a sense of dread and depression.
On top of all of this, you get no privacy. You have to crap on a toilet that sits right next to someone else's head. The shower is cold, and only runs for 30 seconds at a time.
They don't even give you clothes and towels unless you have the money to buy them from the commissary. The deodorant even smells like shit, it's a joke. The name of the deodorant is a cruel joke too (it's named: Maximum Security).
I could go on and on. And I was only in for 4 days.
I hope no one innocent ever has to go.

fun fact county jails existed in the UK until the 1870s ! there were run by the sheriff - they usually called county goals or houses of corrections ! they used for remands and for persons convicted of misdemeanors offences at the quarter sessions. once the again the USA copied the UK. HM Prison service took over from the county goals / houses of correction due mistreatment of the prisoners by the sheriff's guards.

Why do you carry an empty gun holster if you work in the jail?
Because they can not be armed inside the facility but they have to be armed while conducting transports, or perimeter security or if someone escapes. Hence why you only see them carry oc spray and tasers but have empty gun holsters.
There have been incidents where multiple prisoners have ganged up on a single correctional officer and attempted to steal their weapon.
