      "Chrome" cast, as the name implies is a proprietary protocol that requires Chrome. Nothing to do with Surface, it's done through Chrome (or chromium Edge). You can "chrome" cast through chrome or Edge on any Windows device including the Surface Pro 4. It is not the same as the open standard Miracast.

    • @oztabletpc
      @oztabletpc  2 года назад

      It's technically possible to make that work, but not with the Microsoft adapter shown in the video. The SMART Board needs to be plugged into your device with USB to pass through the touch features.
      It is possible to do that with Miracast (it's called 'touch back') but the Miracast adapter would need to support a USB connection. The Microsoft Wireless Adapters don't have the USB Port required. What Miracast adapter do you have?

  • @craigwalker8195

    Hi I noticed when connected to an external display you have black vertical bars down either side of the screen. I have a SP 5 and SP 7 and when I use the adaptor with the SP 5 I get these black vertical bands the same as you, but when I use it with the SP 7 it gives me full screen. I have checked settings on both machines and the resolution is identical, have also looked for driver and firmware updates but no matter what I try I can't get it to utilise the full screen.
    If I choose extend screen it will go full screen.
    I used this adapter on a daily basis pre pandemic when teaching on a college and don't remember these black bars.

    • @oztabletpc
      @oztabletpc  2 года назад

      When you're duplicating your screen you'll get black bars because your Surface display is 3:2, but your average TV or monitor is 16:9. They don't fit either way, hence the black bars. The solution is to use extended desktop. Then windows will use the correct resolution on both displays.

    • @craigwalker8195
      @craigwalker8195 2 года назад

      Many thanks for your reply. That's what I though too, but strange that the SP 7 fills the screen when wireless and it has same aspect ratio as the SP 5 I believe.

      Oh, IC. The TV's almost never have a good Miracast implementation in my experience. If you've got it working this far, that's an improvement! The issue is at the receiver end (i.e. the TV). So you'd need to check if the TV supports Miracast at 4k.

      Unfortunately it's not possible to plug in your Surface directly. ruclips.net/video/teX-qEevPLI/видео.html Maybe try a different approach and treat the Surface as a companion device and sync it with your more powerful desktop. • @oztabletpc
      @oztabletpc  5 лет назад

      Miracast uses a point to point Wifi connection that is independant of the Wifi network you might use to connect to the internet. Lag in that scenario would be caused my interferance with lots of devices competing on the Wifi frequencies. This usually doesn't work well at big conferences, but in the classroom or meeting room it's usually pretty good.

      Not sure if there are any 3rd party tools that can do it. But Apple usually don't do standards, so there is no first party support.
