@@raidenakajacktheripper5988 He had some easy openings for free hits on him and really similar 2nd phase . I think I used every healing I had except for divine grass but he died. I also forgot that I beat second guardian ape first try.
3 possible explanations for why Sekiro does not kill it: 1) The mortal blade cannot kill the dragon. The mortal blade is specifically stated to have the ability to kill the undying and sever immortality, this implies that it can't kill immortals that are not "undying" if "undying" is not a literal term and instead refers to beings who are naturally mortal but have gained immortality through corruption, possession, or dragon's heritage. The blade may not destroy immortality since that technically makes no sense, but instead it severs the victims connection to whatever outside force that made them immortal. The Dragon is not stated to be undying, instead it is the only enemy in the game that is called "eternal". Even when physically cut out by the mortal blade, the dragon's tears remain pristine and retain their powers, which may also explain how the dragon can lose an arm and that "branch" can grow into the Everblossom Tree. Magical means seem to be capable of removing parts of the dragon's body, but these severed parts are still alive and retain magical power, even the mortal blade does not kill them, it just separates them from the whole. The dragon is the only being that is naturally immortal and thus it's immortality can't be severed since it does not need a connection to anything to remain immortal.
2) Sekiro can kill it but the consequences of killing a divine being are too great. The dragon seems to be deeply connected to the land and killing it may cause horrible damage to the world. Either that or the gods will become angry for the loss of such a being.
3) Sekiro can kill it but chooses not to because the Dragon has not hurt anyone and is just another victim of the rot plaguing the land, so Sekiro granted it mercy once he had what he needed.
I like the third one but the first one makes most sense.
However, let's not forget that the mortal blade made dragon bleed. Thus it could probably kill him too.

I think it's easier than you think, Sekiro does everything Kuro tells him to do and he asks to Sekiro to bring him dragon tears not to kill the dragon, I don't think it's easy to extract tears from a dead body (Sorry for my english)

@@Trigger__Happy The lore heavily implies that the existence of the Divine Dragon in Ashina is unnatural and is leading to the gradual corruption of the land and its people. Hence why one of the endings involves trying to return the Divine Dragon to its homeland.
Whenever the dragon intends to cause damage or not is unclear. Its possible that the dragon is actively malicious, but its also possible that its just acting according to its nature, and the fault lies with whatever force transported it to Ashina.

this boss fight is not challenging, yet one of the most satisfying in the game for me. Fromsoft really raised their own bar with boss design in this game. Loving every minute of it

The dragon as a tree with Cherry Blossoms (Stereotypical almost) in the clouds along with the music reminds me of God of War, Shadow of the Colossus, and Spirited Away all melded together beautifully.
With the music and the boss itself, it's definitely hard not to get a Shadow of the Colossus vibe. I'm glad others think that as well
That was almost certainly done intentionally. From soft absolutely loves to take inspiration from other franchises. For example, Miyazaki is clearly a big fan of Berserk.

Btw, if you do a drop attack on one of the dragons in the first fight, Sekiro will hurl it around, killing like 10 other dragons at once
Only found this out when trying new fight approaches, ends the old dragons fight much faster. I remember my surprise, no other fights I know where he drop attacks like this one. What a game...

For anyone complaining about "copy and paste" i want you you to think about the 45 bosses in ds2 alone. All up theres well over 100 bosses in the souls series and it would be fucking hard not to make some foes comparable to previous ones. This games a solo player masterpiece that teaches a very refreshing combat style when compared to the dark souls line, less spamming roll and more thought and meaning.

To make the first phase a lot easier, just dart around until the dragons summon the roots. Grapple hook onto them; you can use a plunge attack on any of the Dragons close enough, and Sekiro will then swing the one he's skewered around him, taking out a lot of the enemies in the process.
Yea,the guy who was playing was really stupid for not putting 2+2 together with the tree grapple point.

The thing with this game is that it's not particularly difficult by default, but it has an excellent difficulty balance. For those that could find it too easy, they can upgrade it to the next level by choosing not to take the upgrades, and next to all that you've got charming mechanics (special moves, lightning parry, mgs5 type level design with multiple potential solutions) and beautiful designs (this boss, the entire fountainhead palace, the sunken valley).

It's one of those spectacular fights that makes your jaw drop and then makes you feel like an absolute god when you kill it. Kinda like Midir, realistically completely unfair fight vs a huge dragon, but that ain't no problem.

From Software games are true masterpieces, not only in terms of gaming, but as pieces of media generally. Music, spectacle, art, depth, story, immersion... Just pure art.
This boss and Slave Knight Gael from DS3 (different game, same creator) are two of the most cinematically awesome boss fights I've seen in a long time.
This was one of the coolest boss fights in the Game. Deflecting those lightning bolts back at the dragon felt so amazing.
Sekiro: Oh, the things I do for you Kuro
This felt like an honest to God reward for making it this far in the game. The whole palace, the giant koi, the boss fight, none of it was very difficult, but after the complete bullshit you go through to even get this far, this experience genuinely felt to me like a sensory reward. The music, the sound effects, the visuals, the scope and scale of the fight came together for one of the most stunning moments in a game ive ever played. I forgot I was playing sekiro for a few hours.
This might be one of the most aesthetically beautiful boss fights I've ever experienced in a game.

I love how most other boss fights in the game are pretty reserved but then you get this RULES OF NATURE deal right here.
Right? I think it's intentional to make it feel even more epic than it is. You got a samurai here, some monks, maybe a general there. Then BOOM, fucking Divine Dragon wielding a huge moonlight seven-branched sword in a divine realm on top of clouds, that you kill Zeus style with lightning bolts to collect his fucking tears. Yeah, quite a step up from a dude with a katana.

And of course, it's a pale dragon, like Seath.
