Fun fact: you can backstab your possessed ally, and re-apply the possession effect again.
If you backstab them while the possession effect is dissappearing, you can re-apply again and let them move again.

This guy and the other Seven Spears dude are the toughest mini-bosses in the game, imo.

Though it was impossible to sneak throught the duo lol. Instead I used the branch next to it to lure the swordsman to jump of the cliff and finish the boss.
P.s the boss could jump of the cliff aswell, and that WILL NOT reward you with the bead (and he'll respawn). So be careful.
Ye. I got scared when he lost his whole hp and disappeared meanwhile I got nothing and I thought I lost permanently my last prayer bead lol.
This is exactly how I had to do it. Once the sword guy is gone, the spear boss is easy (except when the game likes to ignore your Mikiri counter on him half the time).

oh man I've barely used any consumables, and never the stealth one. cool, this actually looks really easy now.
Ashina really transforms into an actual burning battlefield later in the story. Also, Poison & Burns looks real helpful against bosses if you can inflict them with it.
The enemy at 1:30 you can puppeteer him as well. After you use the first guy to get the first bar run to him and backstab him for the second phase make it much easier
Or just puppeteer the first guy a second time before he dies...

Well I feel stupid after watching this. I only managed to beat them by luring the swordsman to the tree branch at left, coaxing him to fall, then dealing with the spearman one-on-one. I kept getting pushed into the fire though.
You using the same tactic as Juzou boss fight again but with the boss friend instead

You can use bestowal ninjutsu on the samurai and r1 spam your way through the first phase of shume, it's way more reliable than the puppeteer method and it's what allowed me to easily kill this boss on charmless ng+ with demon bell
Fun fact: this guy is likely Gyoubu Masata Oniwa's son
Or perhaps his brother.
Using puppeteer on the guard bugged out the boss for me. He would only react after I attacked him and would otherwise just stand around. Resting didn't fix it

Bit late but its possible to do it without the candy
Just get the skill for sneaking and you need to be really careful (even time it) to kill the sword guy

you can mikiri him, in that fight the buring inviroment is the greater enemie :D

Bruh this boss is easily the most asshole out of all mini-bosses since he keeps pushing you on fire lol
I found easy way I think... First Puppet this standing guy then you can puppet this lying guy... And it should help to make easy phase 1 and in phase 2 I jumped to this branch stay just out his range and... Bait him close, and... Use FistFullOfAsh and than Mortal Draw! It works even without Spirit Emblems, just closer range, that's Ash is for! 😁 And he can be finished with Mortal Draw very fast!

That helper guy gets wiped out super fast for me. This seven spears guy is so fn overpowered its unreal. Does constant undeflectable moves, dont matter what i do, his damn spear gets me. I tried EVERYTHING i could think of for past hour and its impossible for me. I love FROMS games and i cant believe im to the point of saying this, but for some of these bosses/minibosses they went too far. Its too the point its not even fun. Im skipping this asshole.
Don't give up yet! I got an excellent strategy for this boss.
Start from the idol, go down the stairs and take left. Grapple onto the branch and to the wall on the left. Keep going forward until the boss's name disappears.
After they de-aggro you, return to the first branch. Go a bit forward hang on the ledge. Whistle while targeting the general, not the boss. He'll come to you and look for you, and go away. Backstab him when he turns back, and puppeteer him. Immediately, backstab the miniboss. Now enjoy a 2 v 1 fight in second health bar.
Only one hour? Btw watch this clip again and again for his clue for perilous thrust and sweep. Mikiri or jump into high monk to deal with accordingly.
I know it's been a year now, but i was playing yesterday and I felt the same way. I don't enjoy playing it, it is like a punishment to your psy.

Genuinely the most annoying bs encounter in the entire game. Things like this make me seriously question the IQ of some devs over at fromsoft. How is this supposed to be fun? Mini boss with 20 ft spear in a small arena with fire everywhere. Totally fair and engaging. Not artifical difficulty at all...
