You also need a USB drive under 32GB and ideally formatted to the FAT32 file system.
A PSU will be needed with a 24 pin and 8 pin EPS connection

I brought one of these and i keep having issues with the audio so ive had to order a new one i really hope it is the motherboard amazon have been amazing and refunded the money when they recieve the motherboard back! I had come to the conclusion it was the motherboard causing the audio interference in my studio monitors by reinstalling all firmware and drivers, disabling the realtek audio with my gpu audio nothing so i thought it could maybe be my music interface so i brought a new one and new xlr to trs cables still getting the same issue. I then tested the speakers they are fine i even updated the system from windows 10 pro to 11 pro same issue again 😢 so i just connected my senheisser hd 25s to aux in the front panel and wierdly im getting the same interference so it has to be the motherboard as ive even got new cables and didnt work
Hi Mike, as someone new to building a PC this really helped! Liked and subscribed. Thank you
Thanks for the sub!
Excellent PSA video. Judging by the amount of BIOS flash queries coming into your Discord channel then the more of these the better. Thanks Mike and Kath.
yeah they are coming in fast these days
@@mikesunboxing Yes the BIOS these days is pretty flash. Boom Boom!
@@DavidUnderhill Haha!
Great tutorial, thorough, calming and confidence boosting! Good looking too ... motherboard I meant 😂. Thanks Mike and Kath 🐈👍
haha i see what you did there
Thank you! Very useful guide for MSI motherboard BIOS update without CPU.
Glad it helped
Simple and clear - thank you :)
Glad it was helpful!
A day without a Mike's how to is a long day. 😄 Thanks as always Mike and Lady Kath for sharing. Take care guys. Cheers
Glad you enjoyed it! thanks for watching Rick
Thank you!
You're welcome!
Thanks the renaming of the file helped... Crazy that msi doesnt mention this in their how to flash the bios video 🥴
Glad it helped
Hi, Mike. Are you watching the CES coverage? BTF is here! ASUS is showing off their newest motherboard, and all the wires connect on the through the back. Even the GPU. I love it. Their example build looked so clean.
i was asked by msi to review the version they have and i turned it down. I hope it doesn't become a thing in the PC market, there are enough compatibility issues as it is without adding more, despite how nice it looks
@@mikesunboxing Well, you're allowed to be wrong. I want this more than anything. I hate cables with a passion. Nothing worse then spending six or eight hours getting the perfect bends on hardline tubing, only to have a bunch of ugly cables screw everything up.
Thermaltake are re releasing the ceres range with hidden cable pass through
@@mikesunboxing I know. And Cooler Master has square hardline tubing as well as square fittings. That would be fun to play with.
I needed an itx motherboard. I had the choice between an Asrock b550 that didn't had Bios flashback and a Gigabyte A520 that has one. I choose the Gigabyte because of that only feature since I did not need the full performance of b550 for that build. It was not really cheaper but this is now a feqture I can't live without.
i was looking yesterday at itx boards and to get one with flashback was prohibitively expensive here, so i went with a h610 and a 12th gen cpu to save any potential headaches
@@mikesunboxing I already have the cpu, but here too, intel itx are cheaper in the low end.
Hi! Thank you for the video, great job. I have the same mb wich is use in video,my question is: what happen if power goes down during bios install? What can i do next?
you can start over when the power returns
@@mikesunboxing ,thank you so much. Have a good day!
@@user-wt2hd6xp6i Enjoy your day too 🙂
Thats what i like about this channel. i'm able to misunderstand Mike.
and hear him tell us how to make a Rum files 😅😂🤣
lol rum files, i like the sound of those
@@mikesunboxing I have to come up with a comment. can use the old once because of YT 😞
A QUICK QUESTION, can you charge a BIOS ROM on to a pc armed already.... it´s necessary to disamble all the setup to give a new BIOS instalation to a previous one?
sorry i don't fully understand the question.
What should i do if i got no lights in the back(USB stick or back panel led) and the computer instantly started(like MB leds, CPU debug leds, cpu cooler and fans, when assembled)?
Why doesn't it work without changing the file extension? A thousand thanks!!! You were providential!!!
The bios flashing system is expecting a specific file name and type. If it isn’t renamed then it is like it is a foreign language so it can’t understand it
This is a great video I appreciate it! However, even after doing this, I still get the DRAM orange light. My RAM sticks are lighting up with RGB, I've tried reseating, using them one at a time in different slots (although this is a pain since they are blocked by massive BeQuiet cpu cooler). Of course I also tried to save a little money and bought the 13700KF so I have no mobo video out to see any BIOS, and my new GPU 4060ti won't send a signal. GPU works fine in my old computer.
Any other ideas for me for this situation besides getting replacement RAM and maybe CPU (with onboard video), or maybe mobo? It SEEMS like the Mobo is doing what it should...

what motherboard do you have? has it got any diagnostic leds on it
is it this board in the video?
@@mikesunboxingyep same mobo MSI Z790 gaming pro. The orange DRAM LED stays lit no matter what I’ve tried.
I’ll try to get on discord if I can get my account unbanned😢
It was bad or incompatible G.SKILL RAM. Replaced with Corsair Vengeance and she’s up and running 👍
@@JAA802 Glad to hear that 🙂
My MSI Edge ddr5 motherboard came with a usb do I have to use it is it needed for my new pc I built ?
It probably has drivers on it to use after you install windows
@@mikesunboxing ohhg I see okay so after I install will that give my pc access to my WiFi basically so I can use my internet ?
Can you flash the bios with a cpu in? Like if I’m installing a 14th gen and install everything like normal and flash before the boot as the boards factory bios won’t support 14th gen so will it still be okay being in the socket?
you can but if there are problems it might need to be removed
@@mikesunboxingokay thanks for getting back to me
@@mikesunboxingalso what if there are any other connections to the motherboard or psu, will I need to only have the 24 and 8 pins plugged in or can it have other stuff plugged in like sata power
Sorry for the long text here, but just looking for some answers, any help is greatly appreciated.
I just recently upgraded the GPU, PSU and AIO (my PC was only like a week old at this point) and after getting all these new components installed, my PC wouldn't post.
The problem is that the red CPU light is on on the motherboard.
I removed CMOS battery for 5 minutes, put it back - same result.
I removed one stick of RAM and changed its place, tried every RAM slot - same result
I tried using two different GPU's (both brand new) - same result.
I tried re-installing and repasting the CPU - same result.
I installed a brand new CPU - same result.
Mind you this was a good working PC that I built like a week ago and then just upgraded some components after a few days, but since those upgrades I can't get past this red CPU light on the motherboard.
was the setup working before? you don't say what parts were replaced or different or what they are, so hard to say what is going on
@@mikesunboxing yeah the setup was crisp and worked totally fine.
Replaced Vetroo 1000W PSU with Segotep 850W, replaced Corsair i1151 Elite 280mm with Kraken z63 280mm, replaced 6700xt with 7900xt.
All good working parts.
I tested the new PSU with paper clip and it passed the test.
These are all new parts.
@@RokerSMisisipi i would try putting the old psu back in. the paperclip test is okay to get it spinning but tells you nothing about voltage rails
Is there a way to tell if it worked before building the rest of the PC? I’m planning to use 14th gen Intel so I’m wondering if there’s a way to tell if it will boot
yes put the cpu and ram on ans make a little test bench up on the motherboard box
So i did this and i put the cpu in and ram and its still showing red on cpu im unsure what the issue is as everything is new is there a possibility the cpu is faulty ?
@@RonGrams Did you flash the CPU’s BIOS? Did the motherboard light up when you did it?
Yessir did that but it’s still showing red wondering now if it’s the cpu that’s an issue it’s brand new though
@@RonGrams It might not have flashed properly. Did the lights flash for 5 minutes or so when you flashed the BIOS?
So now whith that bios update on the motherboard i can install 14gen cpu?
yes that is the idea, update to support newer cpu models
my cpu debug light is on and when i have the usb in and click the bios flash button it blinks 7 times then turns the pc on and the bios flash blinks rapidly and doesnt do anything idk what to do
that means it can't read the USB or the file, double check the file and also maybe try another flash drive and look at the format and gpt status
Okay so mine is doing the same thing where it blinks for 6 mins and then shuts off and stops blinking. But then starts again and the red cpu post light is still on just like yours..does that mean I’m good?
yes, that sounds like it worked, put in the CPU and RAM and test for a bios screen
Hi!
I made all the steps on the built turned off computer.
The LED blinked a few times but is now solid red and has not changed for the past 20 minutes. Is it okay?
that means it can't read the USB drive or maybe the file
@@mikesunboxing Thank you!
Will this be the same process if I’m using a different Msi mb
principle is the same for all msi boards that support USB bios flashback buttons
I need help I’m currently trying to download it to my usb flash but the part where u say to save to anywhere it doesn’t give me the option to do that
It just says it’s in my downloads
And idk where to move them

I did the same steps. The red light has been flashing for about 30 minutes, the process is still not finished, what is it not doing?
sounds like it can't read the USB or the file, it seems to be trying to though
help! i did the flashback and it waited and blinked for 5 minutes and then it went solid red. after that, my keyboard and mouse no longer worked and i tried all usb ports. i cant get the bios to open now on my pc and i cant get it to flashback again.. im freaking out! i just built this pc, what do i do!!
try the flash again after clearing the CMOS
it is neccesary to unplug cpu and ram?
not really but it removes possible areas of failure, take the ram out if it is easy to get to
Got the update to work but the cpu isn’t being detected still 13900k
