How to update MSI Z790 Carbon Wifi motherboard BIOS

- In this video I'm showing you how to update the BIOS for the MSI Z790 Carbon Wifi motherboard. The logic here will work on most MSI motherboards, but this is specifically for this motherboard.
First of all you'll need to grab the latest BIOS from the MSI website. You can find it here, along with ME firmware, which you'll also need to download and install.

Then follow these steps to update your BIOS:
1. Download the latest BIOS from the website
2. Extract the files onto a blank USB thumb drive
3. Insert the drive into your motherboard (if you haven't already)
4. Reboot your PC and press DEL until you get into the BIOS
5. Check the current BIOS version in the top right of the screen
6. Click M Flash on the bottom left to reboot into the flashing tool.
7. From there select the latest BIOS from your drive
8. Check that you have the newer version and the model number matches
9. Run the BIOS flash tool
10. Wait for it to finish and do NOT power off at any point.
WARNING. BIOS updates can cause problems if you aren't careful. Make sure you use the BIOS that fits your motherboard and that you don't power off your system at any point during the BIOS update process or it might result in problems.

I think so too. Should I do restore to default and turn things back on or just check that? I have z790 a wifi ddr4 and not sure how it is setup. I did m flash for bios but not anything else. Thanks for your help

If my cpu is too new for the current BIOS, can I update through BIOS without a CPU?
Can’t give you a definite answer as this depends on your motherboard model. Some do, some don’t. Best to look at the manual for your motherboard for the answer. If the manual doesn’t mention it, it’s likely no.

I tried to go a different route via merch tab & that has an alert message saying it could be imposter site trying to get my info so I came off. If you would like me to screenshot let me know. Im using an apple tablet if that has anything to do with it.
