Love the scene in Ed Wood where Bill Murray is getting baptized...."Do you reject Satan and all his works?" Murray's reply "Sure" Great Post 👍👍
I agree with you. This is Tim Burton's masterpiece! Great video
Ed Wood, his eccentric/oddball life and cast of friends, I love this kind of stuff. I even have the collection of Ed Wood's movies, including this one with Johnny Depp. Thank you for recognizing this oddball genius and his movies which because they are so bad, it's what makes them so good. I LOVE THEM!
This video is so well done. When I think of people like Ed Wood, Maila Nurmi, Bela Lugosi....these people who near the end of their lives lived in poverty and were cast aside as Hollywood rejects- yet they left such a cult following in Hollywood history, they should always be remembered, and it's movies like this one, and the stories you tell by this video that will keep them alive and remembered. WELL DONE
Johnny Depp + Tim Burton = movie magic! What a duo!!!!! They kind of go hand and hand.
Agreed! This is one of Burton’s best movies! People never agree with me when I say it. Great location video.
I love this movie!! I love Johnny Depp!! ❤
I'm a huge Bela Lugosi fan, and it made me cry to see how they treated him..💔
I have never seen this movie but will now. Thanks. If ever in Erie Pa please look up Erie Cemetery there you will find vampire cript and the witches circle I really think you two would love it.
GREAT job on this video Michael...and Baby ghoul too!
I was like 11 or 12 when I first heard about the actual Ed Wood watching an 80's documentary called "It Came From Hollywood" which was all about B-Movies... oh, let's be honest... Z-movies from the 1950's and 60's. I then found the Rudolph Grey autobiography of Ed Wood and sort of became obsessed. This was like 1992. When the Tim film came out, I loved it. Although, even though Johnny Depp does a great job, I always thought Kevin Klein should have played Ed. They look quite a bit alike.
One word for this vlog awesome!!
My Uncle, Carl Anthony (My dad’s brother) was in almost every Ed Wood movie. In Plan 9 From Outer Space. Ed Wood lived with Carl during the late ‘50’s when Ed was down on his luck. I have so many stories. All hilarious. Would love to bend your ear sometime.
When I moved from the Midwest (where I grew up) to Southern California in 1996 (2 years after the Tim Burton ED WOOD movie came out), I did my own historical search/tour for every known address and landmark I could find, related to the true Ed Wood story. That was before the internet and GPS so I had to use the book "Nightmare of Ecstasy" by Rudolph Grey, the documentary "Flying Saucers Over Hollywood", and a Thomas Guide to figure it all out. And of course, that was also before iPhones and social media, so I never even thought to photograph or document any of it. I was only doing it for my own curiosity and fun. So I love that guys like you are actually documenting these places on video now. Your channel is awesome.
I live 2 streets away from Boardners and Johnny used to live in my building back in the 80s-he still has a friend that lives there and has visited a few times...this one of my all time favs...thx for filiming...
I've been with you guys since Area 51 and the Camo Dudes, I'm slowly catching up, I shouldn't think there's a single video on here that's not up my street.
Can't believe your Tim Burton's Ed Wood in B&W locations video didn't get more than 32000 views, deserves way WAY more!
Hopefully this comment will help the old algorithm.
I see Talks from the Crypt have put their Podcast with you out.
Guess what I'm about to start watching🎬🎥🖤♥️
Here's to your future🎉🎉🎉
Years on ill say it again.. U have the coolest intro on youtube.. Never gets tiring.
This is my very first viewing of one of your vlogs, Grimm, and I must say that I'm impressed! Been a fan of Mr. Wood and this film in particular for quite some time, now. I know that many say things similar to this, but your vlog has actually inspired me to rent Ed Wood's last residence, the studio on Yucca. I'm always up for a new adventure, and I've a feeling that this would be just that! ❤. Already started looking into it. Imagine the history, nk!
Perhaps I'm romanticizing it, but I think that I'm going to love this next adventure in my life. If I do it, I'll certainly send pics to Grimm, letting him know that he was my inspiration 😊😊🐱
Ed Wood is one of my Fave films. I just got the Blu Ray. Great Video guys...Bring back Up All Night !....Please.
Awesome tour, this movie gives me so much joy...a escape from. My grieving and heartbteak
thanks for uploading another great video for us Burtonians! 🖤
if you'll ever get to meet the man, I'll fly to US just to hug you!
Great film & great locations video too......nod to the black & white tone to the video too......WELL DONE!!!!!!!!
black and white video now thats grimm photography
Such a truly top notch video Grimm Life! This is important content to document and very stylishly put together.
Definitely my favorite Tim Burton movie, but Mars Attacks is a close second
Back in the mid to late 90s, I attended a horror convention called the "Monster Bash" in Monroeville, PA. I had taken several of my Laser Discs with me to get some autographs. One of the discs was an Ed Wood collection and was able to have Conrad Brooks autograph it for me. I told him that I was a huge fan and planning a trip out to CA and was hoping to visit some sites where Plan 9 From Outer space was filmed. To my surprise he gave me his home telephone number and asked to give him a call before I left so he could take more time giving information and directions. When I called him shortly before the trip he gave me a wealth of knowledge of working with Ed Wood and Bela Lugosi and directions to many places used in the movie. Conrad was living in a small town in WV called Falling Waters. I got the impression that he was hungry for conversation because even after over 90 minutes on the phone I got the impression he could have talked another 90 minutes. My wife kept pointing at the time because it was before I owned a cell phone and the long distance charge got pretty expensive. I did manage to visit every site he told me about during our trip there. Sadly Conrad Brooks passed away in 2017.
I've been waiting MONTHS for you to name-check Bauhaus! I'm so glad you did.
Great vid! Thanks for posting it! When I was in my mid-20's I would go to the NYFF (New York Film Festival) every year, and on Sept. 24, 1994 (actually it was the 25th as I went to the midnight screening), I saw Ed Wood. It's such a great movie!! Tim Burton came out for a talk before the show started and I'm not absolutely positive, but I swear when I was outside Allice Tully Hall before the show I saw Johnny Depp standing on the second floor smoking a cigarette. Anyway, great vid my friend, keep em' coming! 👍
LOVED Ed Wood......and nice touch with the black and white lol
enjoying your videos, ive been to alot of the places you've been as well, id love to see just a video of hollywood film locations. Like a walk around hollywood tour. I took one when I was down there about 10yrs ago, but it would still be interesting to see it with you as my tour guide!
Boardner's was one of the bars where the Black Dahlia hung out.
I rented this movie last night. It was fantastic,it covered Bela Lugosi life so will. I didn't know that the rehab ended, his treatment, because he didn't have insurance. Bela couldn't finish his treatment for he had no money. Ed Wood didn't tell him the true, afraid of hurting his feelings or driving him over the edge. Thank u for recommending this movie I really enjoyed it.
Love 'Ed Wood' honestly, Burton really did his finest work in the 90s.
Lovin what you guys are doing good luck with your channel.
Anything Ed Wood or "Ed Wood: the movie" and I'm all over it! Thanks, so much, for this episode!
Another great video. U guy's rock 🤘 and start my days off with some Great historical info on the things that interest me.
Love your channel fella keep doing what you do love ed wood .does anyone ever come up to you to talk from recognizing you from your channel? You and Jessica are awsome.
Hey Mark, thank you. And yes, it does happen on occasion. We love meeting folks so if you ever see us, please say hello
@@grimmlifecollective I would deffinetly take time and say hello to you two love what you guys do and the opening introduction to your channel second to none.
Great video, awesome locations & a glimpse at a strange & unusual Mr. Ed Wood..
Interesting as always. We had dinner at Musso & Franks 2 years ago when we visited Hollywood. First time I had been there in many many years. It was fantastic and I hope you get the opportunity to go sometime. I'm sure you know that many things have been filmed in Musso & Franks, including Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Great video! Was friends with Conrad Brooks, worked with him in a couple of movies, Brainrobbers From Outer Space and Jen-Gal.
This was a great video! I love the movie so much and it was great to see how much you live it too
A good afternoon guys 👋👋
Tonight's double feature will be
Ed Wood
&
Plan 9 from outer space
Grimm for Life!
Another great video love you guys
Like the b&w good job
Quality Studios, where Ed Wood filmed Plan 9 From Outer Space, is near where I live. It's behind Gold Diggers Bar, on Santa Monica Blvd, down an alley on the right. You used to be able to see it, but now there is a big security door blocking the view.
Excellent! Great film, great location video, great Grim life... as always.
Not the biggest Burton fan but this is one of his best.
@Trey Stephens sound like a fan to me, everything pre 2000 is good IMO
@@oldrestless even post 2000 (sweeney todd, the corpse bride, big fish)
Big Fish such a great movie
I really enjoyed this vlog and Ed Wood has been one of my favorite films since I saw it in the theater when it came out. You remind me of a cross between Jim Carey and a Bill Mosley kind of rockabilly vampire guy
oh my god i just love your videos. I look forward to every new one. I embrace you. 🤗
I totally agree. Ed Wood is Burton’s masterpiece.
Whoah! That was outrageous! Smoked a joint and was grinning😊 Filmed in Black and White, really Grimm 😎
Nice video. The Pantages Theatre, where the premiere of Plan 9 was filmed is down the road from Musso's.
I love your videos!! So glad I found your channel!!!
I'm new to your channel and dig your work! awesome vlog
I am brand new to your channel, and I think your videos are fantastic! My favorite film of all tome.
I saw Ed Wood before the Academy Award Nomination when it was still in selected theaters. I also saw it right up the street from where you shot your videos at what was once the new Hollywood Galaxy Theater (now a Target)
Tim Burton & Johnny Depp are AWESOME together
I love your videos! You & Jessica remind me of my spouse and I - over 25 years ago we traveled all over the U.S. exploring taking whatever jobs we needed to pay the bills but to just have fun and explore. Over time we went back to those spots and even lived in several cities that you have been and don't regret a minute of it!
Niceeeeee wish I could travel like you and Jessica you guys have basically lived my dream life
I love the black and white you should do all your videos in October exactly like this!
I pronounce him the same way you do; Also love Bauhaus's "Bela Lugosi's Dead"; I listen to it quite often whenever it pops up in my RUclips feed
So awesome!! LOVE this movie, huge Johnny & Tim Burton fan. I think you two are Goth-tastic, loving your channel ☠️🖤☠️
Love it, amazing content ☺💯
Another awesome and interesting video!
Not in the last 30yrs or more have i heard anyone mention Bauhaus or Pete Murphy! Pete's 'Strange kind of love' is a classic. Back when i was listening to The Mission, Siouxie, The Cure, SLF, Pistols etc. I'm enjoying your vids.
I'm so glad you have an audience, the bond and enthusiasm you guys have is amazing and really comes across in your adventures, I love how you invite the viewers along and always find querky facts. Top account 🎃
Thank you.
@grimmlifecollective without a doubt what a great tribute that you have made this video in black and white as a good tribute to the great Ed Wood and Tim Burton, it was very respectful of you both for the artists and for us fans, even the DVD extras are In this format, there is only one way to see Ed Wood, Bela Lugosi and the best of cinema and it is in black and white. This is an elegant format that has been forgotten, let's fight so that it does not happen. Even Tim Burton took the trouble that everything related to press, trailers, photos and everything related to the film was in black and white. Thanks to you and the always beautiful @witchydame for everything Grimm and everything Spooky, as I always say serious videos for serious people, thank you so much. Greetings as always from terrifying Venezuela.
“Hector” LoL dude I’ve been lookin for that screen classic’s spot forever. Plus the Larchmont studios. Very nice touch with the black and white. I found myself thinking some of your shots were original ones.
I remember way way way back, probably during the early 90's, my then gf and I often went to haunt old Hollywood. I'm talking about the old, grimey, dirty, old Hollywood Blvd..
We'd frequent the old hole in the wall clubs, hangouts. Mostly goth/punk/industrial. I still remember Kontrol Factory, cool ass Industrial club with slight hints of bondage.
At the time, Dave vanian was fronting a new band called Dave Vanian, and the Phantom Chords. Kinda like Elvis meets Dracula meets Rockabilly-Goth rock type of music.
I remember being at some hole in the wall, chilling, smoking clove cigarettes, drinking shots, and in walks Dave himself, and comes to our table and just chatted with us. I remember the door guy, some young dude from the UK, whom we found out some time later passed away unexpectedly. He'd always ask for cigarettes, or cloves whenever we'd drop by to chill.
Man, those were some crazy honest times then. Imagine, no Ipads, no mobile phones, no google maps, nothing like we have now. can't tell you how many times we'd get lost, and no phone in hand. We'd check out the old poster and book stores, old props stores, the one store where they sold toys, and costumes, all old Hollywood.
I haven't been to Hollywood Blvd in a very very long long time. probably very different now.
I just subscribed to your patreon. Please continue to help me appreciate my home town.
Thank you and welcome to the Grimm Family. Your hometown in LA? We are really loving our new home
Yes young Johnny Depp. Love your videos.
I'm very entertained by this I love everything about Ed Wood and his movies Ed Wood was a very quirky person and so Am I . I'M 58 and really have nothing im common with people my age most don't care for Ed Wood but me I appreciate all your videos and especially this one about Ed Wood . Tim Burton was very good getting Ed Wood and they way he lived Thanks maybe you can do Carnival of Souls and history of Vincent Price I absolutely adore him and his cult horror movies. Thanks
One of my favorite movies. Everything was just so well done. I will say though, that I hope someone does another Ed Wood biography that is closer to reality. By nearly all accounts, EW was not nearly as happy a character as he's portrayed by Depp. I'd absolutely love to see a more serious take on his life.
I loved Ed Wood, great flick, Martin Landau was awesome!
Cool video.
Ren here I live in Pomona about 45 minutes southeast of L.A. we have Hollywood come out here and film movies, t.v. shows and commercials. We even have the house that Walter Knott built for him and his wife. And the house that Timmy from Lassi lived when he was growing up here in Pomona. Nitflex just did a movie about Jeffery Dommer the guy that ate people. I myself am an actor, artist, blogger and worked behind the scenes of filming. So come on down take your shoes off and sit a spell, oh one more thing we have an art walk every second Sat. of the month lots of fun here in Pomona.
This is one of my all time favorite movies! Martin Landau was incredible. Another great video guys!!! Thanks👍👍
Love the Black & White.
The Bomb, you nailed this!
What a great video ! Awesome film I have seen most of EDs films, and Peter Murphy got married near my town.....Bela.....is.......dead......
I really love that film! Good job! Glad to see those places! Kisses guys
ty for showing this video
Ed Wood is my favourite Tim Burton film. I've had the film poster hanging up in my room since I was a teen.
A great film!!!!❤❤
Keep doing what you guys do
Amazing t shirt there Michael from grim life collective.
Black and white .. nice touch .
I'm diggin' the B&W!
Sweet!!!
Love this! What crane or gimble do you use?
Love the black and white nice job
You always do the best videos. I love how you do the research and you find everything you need. This video about Ed Wood was phenomenal. I love how you did it in black and white. I love how you got all the locations for filming the Edward movie. It was the best. 👍
OK I found you from your build a bear Halloween video and I refuse to explain why I was looking for one 😆. However I have been binge watching as you are horror officiados like our family. My grandson is 7 and has never watched horrors however he is obsessed with Michael Meyers from his picture I have no idea why as Freddie is obviously way better closely followed by the original Pennywise.
I really love your channel so far there's nothing better than finding gold in all the crap on here.
Thank you, and I’m glad you found us. Hey...Build a Bear can be spooky
Martin plays Bela who was Dracula the Vampire of vampires. Then his daughter Juliet also in Ed Wood later plays Drusilla in Buffy.
Boardner’s is one of my Hollywood haunts! You should definitely get dressed up and take Jessica to dinner at Musso & Frank’s! It’s a Hollywood classic! Many, many celebrities have dined there over the years (Charlie Chaplin, Greta Garbo and Marilyn Monroe to name a few) and it’s been used for film shoots over the years. I know some scenes for Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ were shot there, just to name something fairly recent. The steaks are quite pricy, but they’re so good (I recommend the filet mignon) and it’s worth going just for the nostalgia of the place and a romantic dress-up date night with Baby Ghoul. Make a reservation! You should research Musso & Frank’s a bit and do a whole video on the place!
🌹
I've never watched this one before, I think IFC used to show it a lot many years ago.
Great movie....great video....Thanks
Love it! Filming in B&W is a great choice, especially going to your to scenes from the movie. Plus it makes it spooky 👻
Love this movie. Bought a DVD copy on a whim about 15 years ago.
Any time you cover the filming locations of any black & white movie, consider filming it in black & white. I dig it.
I don't think I have ever watched this movie! But im a big fan of Tim Burton
You have to watch it. It’s a gem for sure
@@grimmlifecollective i will make sure I watch it! Thanks
Great video, Mr. Grim. It's awesome to see that many of those locations still exist and I agree, Ed Wood may be Burton's best film.
Do L.R. Stine filming locations for night at the tower terror . Please
This is my favorite grimmlifecollective Vlog of all!! So well done!!
Karloff?? Sidekick??
