    I’ve made over 50 of them. I’ve made the full fabric wrapped and the bits of color here and there. I also string different patterns of beads along the top edge and make decorative yo-yos to hide the end point or a curled design similar to yours. I also make gift display baskets with the large ones. I filled one with all kinds of baby gifts and wrapped in clear cellophane wrap and then made a large bow. I have one great tip. I buy all my “clothesline” cord at Ollie’s it’s 3.99 for 100 feet. I bought out three Ollie’s in my area and one in Florida. I gave every one away as gifts as I do with everything I make. I love your channel. Your art is amazing, thank you for sharing. Blessings.

      @@stitchesbyjulia Ollie’s is across the USA it is like an overstock warehouse type store. I do know the four that I bought out restocked right away. It is an Ollie’s brand cloth line cord cotton outer and nylon inner core.

    Hi Julia, I have seen a big trend in these bowls as well as baskets made of rope. Mainly it is big in the machine embroidery community. I haven't tried the embroidery yet. ( Too Chicken on breaking a needle LOL). A hint to blend the ends in at the end, is to cut about an inch to inch 1/2 off the side of the rope on an angle ( like cutting the rope in half towards the bowl, it gives a seamless finish. Hope that makes sense. As always great tutorial. Be safe and Happy.

    Thanks for showing the different projects, and I like the colored fibers you added! I started out making a shopping bag. I used a dark brown thread so you could see the stitching. The bag was a larger size so it took a lot of thread. When I ran out of thread and had to start with new thread, my back stitching showed. When I completed the project, I went back and did a tighter zig zag stitching over the starts and stops. I also added more of these tighter zigzags randomly as part of the design. If you push the rope too tightly as you are sewing, it may create a wavy effect. My shopping bag turned out to be an oblong basket with slight waves along the sides. From across the room, it almost looks like pottery. I just love the finished project even if it was not what I started out creating.

      Hi Ann, I am using a Janome Memory Craft 8200. I have had mine for 10 plus years. Juki's are also great sewing machines! Thanks for watching, Julia

    What a fun video and craft! Your explanations and demonstrations are great! Thanks for making this for us. :)
    Question: Can I just use a cotton fabric tab instead of leather/faux leather/suede? I could tuck the raw edges so they are top-stitched or zigzag over those raw edges. What do you think?

    Hi Julia
    I just watched the tutorial… it’s awesome…..
    I would like to know the type of machine used…. Or any zig zag machine will do the work ?

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  2 года назад

      Hi, Any zig-zag machine should work.( As long as it's not a lightweight) I am using cotton cord and my needle has no problem going through it. These baskets are fun to make and I love the results.

    I've really liked the projects. But isn't there a problem if you feed the suede through the sewing machine after putting the glue? Thanks for starting

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  3 года назад

      Let the glue dry completely. No gumming, no problems.

    Great job as always, colorful and creative. Can you explain why You Tube keeps putting overlays of other videos at the end - it is very distracting and sometimes I can see the workmanship. Thanks

      I meant to say, I CAN'T see the workmanship.

    I am hoping you still check this and can give me some advice. I can't always get my trivets to lay completely flat without stiffening them. Am I winding cord too tight?

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  Год назад

      Hi, I'm not sure what is happening. Maybe experiment with a longer zig-zag as well as loosening the cord winding. Also, the cord that I use is 10 MM in width. A finer cord may tend to curl. Hope some of this helps. Thanks for watching, Julia

    Do you think this can be done on a bernette sew and go 8? Can this machine make it with the rope or it will break?

    • @stitchesbyjulia
      @stitchesbyjulia  2 года назад

      Hi, I think it is worth a try. This cord is quite soft and is quite easy to sew through. It is a cotton cord rather than a nylon cord which is stiff. I hope that helps, let me know. Julia

      Hi, Yes- it should work. The cord I am using is approximately 1/4" in diameter but smaller or bigger cord will also work. Thanks for watching, Julia

      @stitchesbyjulia  2 года назад

      Hi, Approximately 10 meters for a mid-sized basket. The cord I buy comes in a 65 yard hank and it makes one large and one small basket. Thanks for watching, Julia
