Second, it was ruled that their civil rights were not violated because they do not have civil rights protections, because they are white males... I had a front row seat to this living in the RDU area. Everyone hated those kids. If you played devil's advocate for them, you were bashed as bad as them. The prosecuter went on TV multiple times talking about DNA going through sleeves and a bunch of other bullshit. It was the biggest story for MONTHS. When it was finally cleared up years later, the story basically disappeared in a week. Sean!! I saw that, and had no idea those kids had been exonerated. I never followed the case closely, but the media is exceptionally good at covering up their misdeeds. But we’ll still use his death for political advantage. The Durham County DA’s office was collectively as a group CORRUPT during the time of this scandal. I am a Duke Alum that had graduated about 8 years before this incident but still lived in the area. I ended up with a “fabricated” misdemeanor assault charge around this time and went to the DA’s office with taped phone calls and email messages that proved that the charges were false. One of the Assistant DA’s told me: “If the evidence does not support your guilt…..we don’t want it because our job is to convict you whether you are guilty or not.” Luckily, the accuser admitted that the police report was fabricated. Needless to say, that person faced no repercussions while my Corporate Career could have been ended.
When I was in collage there was a girl who was known for having compulsive lying issues. She managed to get 12 people arrested for "rape" in her first semester alone. She was well known for going to parties, getting extremely drunk, and then aggressively pursing guys to take home before calling the cops in the morning. The frat houses tried to solve this by word of mouth however this didn't work as she generally targeted freshmen who either didn't know or were too drunk to care. As this did not work the frat and sorority houses banned her from parties. This of course caused an uproar among the left wing disciplines and activist groups. It culminated when the dean (a very respected female) suggested to the girl that she not attend these parties. This was the spark that set off the explosion. The weekend after we had dozens of black charter buses show up to drop of hundreds of protesters who occupied our facilities to protest "blaming rape victims". Of course our dean was fired and the associated hashtag trended globally on twitter and was even mentioned on the daily show. The last incident before I graduated was rather shocking. This same girl made the accusation that 5 people from our basketball team gang raped her in the parking lot late at night. It didn't matter that the dorm cameras, guard, and scan in system showed she did not leave the dorm that night. It did not matter that all 5 of the accused has provable alibis showing they weren't even near campus, it didn't matter that the parking lot cameras showed nothing, and it didn't matter the rape kit came up with nothing. The college revoked all of the accused sports scholarships because they were terrified of the woke mob.

The three biggest examples of false accusations perpetrated by the media are: 1. Richard Jewell, 2. Duke Lacrosse, 3. Covington Catholic Kids. Duke University had to pay three players $20 million dollars each. An ad appeared in the campus newspaper attacking the players that was signed by eighty faculty members. I remember one of the mothers being quoted as saying nobody was going to treat her son that way. I guess the geniuses in the Duke Faculty Lounge didn’t realize that if you play Lacrosse for Duke, you are probably strong, tough, smart, and your family probably has a lot of money and know some very good lawyers.

Even worse, one of the main faculty members who led the charge against them (and eventually became my boss as a professor at Duke) was asked 10 years later whether she regretted her role in accusing the kids of rape. I think that they missed two of the most crucial points in the aftermath:
First, when the exonerated students tried to sue the state and Nifong, the state absolved itself of wrongdoing and Nifong filed for bankruptcy - hence, the money that their families spent to clear their names is mostly unrecoverable.
Second, it was ruled that their civil rights were not violated because they do not have civil rights protections, because they are white males...
Thus, the courts acknowledged all the wrong-doing that was outlined, but because they are white men, they don't care...

One of the Assistant DA’s told me:
“If the evidence does not support your guilt…..we don’t want it because our job is to convict you whether you are guilty or not.”
Luckily, the accuser admitted that the police report was fabricated.
