Great video - rare to find a US collector who understands the rarity of UK Price Variants

I appreciate the kind words Suddenly. Hoping my Marvel Tales Annual 2 UKPV comes back as highest in Census! Did you enter a guess in the quiz on my community page?

Enjoy your content. This is a nice book, I;ve picked up some UK variants lately, just because they came available, including the first Aqualad, as I am working on an Adventure Comics run post first Legion. Keep up the great content.

Another great one, Dr. Paul! I love the “so many fictional city names I just threw in a fake one but you didn’t notice.” 😂
Ageism is a real thing! I’m surprised they brought this up back then.
I’ve the time I have watched your videos you have convinced me to keep my eyes open and pay attention to Pence variants. The ones I have are simply incidental and I never valued them as much as their cent counterparts. But I now understand the significance and rareness they hold. Thanks again!

@@DrPaulKosnik I DO love my X-Men! Yeah there isn’t really a logical reason I can find that explains the slight premium on cent variants other than “Merica!” But there are a ton of reasons who Pence books SHOULD be more valuable (similarly to Canadian price variants). I’ve never really collected these types of variations (I am a very basic collector) but it is very interesting to learn about and the more you know the more of an edge you can have in this field. Thanks as always!

A lovely, bight, clean copy you've landed there. The circular, black stamp over the logo is the official Thorpe and Porter distributor price. This will be a '9d' late arrival - after T&P had already raised their price to 10d, hence the blacking out of the old price.
In addition to there being no month under the issue number on the cover, you should also see something like: 'Sole importer for the United Kingdom, Thorpe and Porter Ltd' at the bottom of the indicia on the inside front cover - another small thing distinguishing these variants form the cents priced versions.

Up until around late '65, Thorpe and Porter used those rather heavy, large, almost India ink stamps to price up their comics for the UK. Mercifully, after that they switched to a much less marring small, purple stamp - which you are likely familiar with on UK distributed comics from then through to the early seventies.
I'm very happy that CGC and other grading companies view these price stamps much as they do arrival dates: simply part of the comic's history. And, amazingly, those stamps are nearly always placed thoughtfully: never over a character's face or other important visuals. However, if there was a full moon on the cover, you can guarantee they would smack that thing right in the middle of it :)

Ant-Man operated out of CENTER City. (It's clearly spelled with the "-er" ending on the page you showed. The Fantastic Four operated out of Central City before moving to New York.

Nice book edges look sharp have you double-checked for no trim. the boot in the bottom right has a gap between the edge and the boot on the gocollect image but I know these covers can be often offset quite a bit between books. I think I looked at another book from the same place I think with only one picture and looking at it thought can't risk it so I'd be interested if this one is ok.

Edge trims are always super-obvious. They remove the natural, slightly 'guts-hanging-out' effect of the early Marvel guillotine. I have a Suspense #43 which, although the same width as its contemporaries I possess just feels wrong. It had been 'tidied'. Christopher H may be right. The reading edge just looks a little too 'tidy'.
Maybe it doesn't matter, if all that's been trimmed is some untidy excess which ultimately affects nothing?

Thanks Chris i think this one has not been trimmed, but we have to stay vigilant...

I actually prefer UK pence variants it is rarer and it is usually printed out at the same time as its US counterparts unlike other foreign books which is printed later except Canadian variants. Since majority of the comic collectors are Americans it is natural for them to prefer US comic books although Canadian variants are also preferred since the price is almost indistinguishable from US books.

The future belongs to those who do their research! A comic, printed on the same presses at the same time, by the same people as the cents version - but at around 1/20th of the print run. And yet somehow much cheaper. This has been a No-Brainer announcement.
