I love the ocean and Deepsea fishing.
I went out haddock fishing on the Capt John back in July. The first couple of spots were kinda slow, but at the final spot, it was nonstop action. As soon as you hit bottom, you had a bite. I landed 9 keepers inside half an hour. I'm hoping to get in another trip in September before they stop fishing for the season.
Kind of a bad time a year for Dogfish.

From the little I know about slow pitching jigging, that didn’t look like slow pitch jigging as I thought you made one crank of the reel to pitch the jig up and repeat…..what Jimmy was doing looked more like jigging/bucktailing for fluke as he was working the rod.
what he was really doing wrong was only using 4 hooks, if he added one more pair of hooks in the middle of the jig then he woulda caught way more

I started that way, but the only way I was getting bites was keeping the jig as close to the bottom as possible. Working the jig with the reel and walking it up the water column just didn't seem to work that day.
It's bottom fishing and should keep the jig around the bottom. The weight of the jig may be heavy. To fish at 75 feet, the weight would be better around 100 grams up to 150 grams depending on the current strength. It really surprised me to see people slow-jigging in this area, I barely see that. How many miles from shore do they usually run?
It depends on the whale regulations and how the fishing has been. Stellwagen Bank is a bit over 20 miles from Plymouth so somewhere around that typically. Thanks for watching Dale!
I have been on 4 party boats. I have never caught a fish, and I have seen very few others catch one. Maybe that is just a Florida thing.
Check out some of my party boat videos. In the northeast all we do is catch!
I’ve never seen slow pitch done that way. I always thought holding the rod with 2 hands was a big no-no and a fast way to fatigue. I’ve done it several times successfully and always hold the rod with one hand lifting the rod more with my upper body and keep my arm slightly flexed but in a fixed position. I would take a look at some videos of guys like Benny Ortiz down south, they have pretty much perfected the technique and if done correctly works well in the northeast

Captain John's will always be a legendary fishing outfit but if its fish your looking for head an hour north to Eastman's and you'll have half a cooler by the time they landed the first fish, the OTW boys know this they've been there plenty its a whole different game

Ounce is a little more than 28;grams, so 200 grams is less than 4 oz.
