Standing at the rail slowly feeding out line then suddenly realizing your line is absolutely dumping off your reel into the ocean. Best moment ever!! Nice job! I can’t wait until fall!

Super cool to see headboat tuna fishing in the NE Canyons. Not super common. It reminds me a lot of the incredible offshore party boat scene in San Diego.

Thanks for watching! It's a great fishery, especially with the outside shot at a bigeye or swordfish. We need to check out the San Diego scene though!

The party boat I go on, the Frances Fleet out of Rhode Island, runs both 2-day and 3-day marathon tuna trips to the Canyons. They don't sail that frequently, only in September and early October, and even then, many get canceled due to weather, but when they do sail, it's usually epic. One trip a couple years ago caught a full boat limit of yellowfins, and even a couple bigeyes as a bonus. I was talking to the mates about the tuna trips. Typically, they troll lures during the day, and people take turns in the fighting chairs. At night, you're at the rail using bait.

While I do like a light weight chunk set up it requires braid backing to maximize line capacity. Since top shots get chafed and re-tying the topshot is not worth the time during a hot tuna bite I go with my heavy but very reliable 50 wide.

150 miles, but that's where the water was. First trip following some weather, and the good water had all slid west.

@@OnTheWaterMedia we made the run from AC at 90 miles. It was so cool seeing boats from all these different states there and hearing all these different accents on the radio. This October was nothing short of epic in that canyon. Great video as always!

Gary I used to work on that boat back in 1977 when it was in Sheepshead Bay NY. Hudson Canyon was 100 miles. These fish were not there then. We Tiled fished there.

This is amazing! By chance did he pull the chicken out of a circa 1970's tray style plano box? Only way that story gets any better.

Yes, the fish are tagged with the angler's name and cleaned and returned at the end of the trip.
