For me, this is like listening to a penthouse forum for guitar. lol. Watching his interviews at Gitcon, I have come to the conclusion that Phil McKnight is a superior interviewer. I'm guessing, but I think the reason for this is that he has spent many hours casually discussing general and gear related topics in many different situations for years. More than likely he has many friends, and acquaintances in the retail side of the business, and has spent countless hours figuring out what works and doesn't work for him as a player. Listening to answers and not blindly pushing through questions allows the interviewee to naturally let their knowledge flow without micro managing the interview. only interjecting his experiences when it is applicable, and adds to the topic at hand. It's probably natural and he has never given much thought to any of what I'm talking about. The check cleared Phil...thanks...lol

Yep, I agree. it helps that he is realaxed, non threatening, and doesn't let his ego get in the way.. I've enjoyed watching everyone so much. I think the format and forum that was/is GuitCon has really allowed people to shine and show their true selves. Everyone seemed so natural and normal.

Really late to the party but still timeless. Great video. Wish more were like this. Exploring and explaining the "why's" of making a guitar or a pickup a certain way is so good! Follow me on this one... most of us are still listening to reviews on far less than ideal sound systems. Even a good computer sound system will not replicate what a setup sounds like in a live situation. So playing a guitar on a video will not give many of us what we want to know. I suppose there is a growing number of guitarists who are only bedroom or youtube players - so that might be ok. But for us holdouts who are still entertaining live I much prefer a video like this. Thanks so much. If my flimsy guitar talents could justify a Suhr Alt T it would be my next guitar.

Being a Nerd, and especially a "techie type" Nerd, is never a thing to apologize for. Be proud without being arrogant, at least on the inside, that you are intelligent enough to understand and comprehend acoustics, physics, electronics, mechanics, etc. I really appreciate getting to watch this video; I would really have liked to have been there and been part of the discussion. These are two very intelligent men discussing things that interest me, and I'm sure it would have been fun to be there, hang out, drink a beer with them, and "talk guitar." I miss Tom Petty already......I feel like I lost a brother.

  • @turdferguson9942

Love his guitar and it was cool how he appreciated what you said about it as well with it being modern but classic at the same time. When I built my own guitar I went for a Les Paul shape but did the SG control layout and added two three way mini switches for series/parallel/single for each humbucker. I also did 24 frets with the PRS 25" scale length with locking TOM bridge and string through body. i went with Gretsch pickup rings too to give it a cool vibe.

Hard to listen to with voices panned right, and guitars down the center. What happened? RIP ear drums to whoever is listening with headphones. Ya gotta crank up the volume to hear them talk, then turn down when guitar is played.
